      It’s practically a crime that no one reacts to Castaway Angels. It’s a vocal reactor’s wet dream.

    This song felt almost like a mixture of their new sound and their older sound and I AM ALL FOR IT. And Einar said in an interview that this wasn't their heaviest track in the upcoming album which has me excited as I missed that sorta sound from Leprous for sure!

      @@5thPhoenix No, this is a new single for their upcoming album currently.

      @@5thPhoenix The last one is brilliant, but not like their older albums. If you were a fan of Pitfalls, I think you'll like Aphelion, although it's got its own identity for sure.

      It almost seems to me like a song from an alternate universe where Tall Poppy Syndrome was inspired by trap more than whatever gothic showtune insanity it had going on... particularly if they really mean it when they say this album is "heavier".

    One of the best live acts I've ever seen. They nail the vocal harmonies live, even while playing complicated time signatures at the same time. The amount of talent in this band is just amazing.

    The more I listen to it, this song feels like a bit of a condensation of some ideas in the song The Sky Is Red but pulled together into a more straightforward package. They're ideas I like and the main riff, while simple, sounds so nasty and it's grown on me a lot. 🤗

    • @SoulSingerDiscovers
      @SoulSingerDiscovers  2 месяца назад +2

      It’s very good production which is also helping the overall song feel catchy and interesting which are terms I use rarely for metal tbh.

    • @madeofwax92
      @madeofwax92 2 месяца назад +1

      That's an interesting thought. I can see the main guitar riff being kind of similar to the "siren" synth part from The Sky Is Red with the bends and dissonant sound.

    Someone argued with me in the 90's that guys can't have high register voices in music... So I handed over the King Diamond "Them" cassette to listen to. We never argued about vocal range again. LOL

    • @SoulSingerDiscovers
      @SoulSingerDiscovers  2 месяца назад +1

      Yeah that’s why I say traditionally, because there’s exceptions to a lot of expectations in vocals and gender. Men usually don’t belt as high but there as examples where some can. King Diamond has an incredible range but I would point out he is mixing and covering, not belting and those things are quite different. Thanks for watching 😊💪

    You need to check some of their older stuff! "The Cloak", Contaminate Me, Coal, Rewind, The Flood and Slave, just to name a "few". :P In your own time or a reaction, doesn't matter, just do it. haha
    Some other vocalists to check out (tho I doubt you havent been suggested them before), Matt Barlow (Iced Earth), Russell Allen (Symphony X, Allen/Lande), Jørn Lande (Ark, Masterplan Allen/Lande). :)
    Fun reaction as always dude.

    It still kind of blows my mind that Einar Solberg is Ihsahn's brother-in-law. AND that they've collaborated on a cover of A-ha's Manhattan Skyline. (Leprous having been Ihsahn's backing band for live shows notwithstanding.)

  • @ColinMacDaniels

    At this point I've seen them live twice, and they are as good live as in studio. In fact it even sounds better because how unbelivible his voice is.

    He has Emperor ties as well since his brother-in-law is Ihsahn. Also, you need to listen to the track "splitting the soul" with Ihsahn if you really want to have that POWER that he can hit (along with the growls of Ihsahn) Also also - it is hard to find but get you some Peccatum (oh my regrets), where Ihsahn and Einar's sister Ihriel sing. Very prog / avant-garde. Also also also: dogs eating beans? Goodness...

    I listened to this several times in the 24 hours after it came out, then decided not to listen to it again until the album came out so it still sounded fresh. But now I have to watch this!
    Honestly, I think Leprous is so weird and unique that I don't expect anyone to know how they feel about any song on first listen.

      @@SoulSingerDiscovers It was an epically, hilarious comment about this band. Essentially, I said they're the progeny of The Backstreet Boys arse-banging a JC Penny catalogue and then having that warped progeny mate with a boring band like Spiritbox or Sleeptoken. (Of course, I didn't say 'arse-banging' as I prefer the Canadian Vernacular, which I'm guessing RUclips's Victorian-Prude-Settings didn't like like.)
      As always, a great review by you, my good woman!

      The RUclips Victorian prude setting is a weird one. Somethings they are ‘absolutely you will not say bottom’. Then other times I’m fully physically threatened by a commenter and RUclips is like, ‘maybe you’re being hysterical?’.
      Thank you Jason 🥰

    That repetitive, skronky guitar theme during the chorus is one of the most annoying hooks I've heard for years.
