There are so many dedicated enthusiasts in the UK, otherwise a lot of these cars would just be recycled. The classic car scene is really a family enterprise.
I’ve not met Derek yet but I have met Dave, Jack and his lookalike younger brother Josh at Hexham after the Kielder Stages. Also met Charlie and Paul and Angela at Anglesey circuit three times when I was marshalling on rallies there. I was there when Charlie won the juniors championship in 2023 and got to congratulate Paul. That was amazing and emotional. Also met Dave there at the Lee Holland stages but unfortunately the car gave up after one stage. He came over to talk to me during the day as I was there as a radio marshal. He gave me a Mathewsons Motorsport cap and coffee mug. You couldn’t wish to meet a nicer family.
A really enjoyable watch, thanks Matt. Yes please try to do more of these. It’s good to see you having a chat with another car enthusiast as a change up from your usual solo to camera videos. It was an interesting whistle stop of some cool classics, I loved that Lagonda. Maybe next time you could spend a bit more time focusing in on a couple of favourites, if they’ll let you take a seat in them.
There is a car collection somewhere in the UK with 36 of these Lagondas under one roof Matt an incredible collection of I think 300 cars on four floors . I shall try and find the link for you . Loved your chat with Derek who is proper old school and has a fabulous personal collection !
@@HighPeakAutos Can you imagine how the Lagonda would have looked back in 1980 or so? Like an alien spacecraft or something, haha! Amazing car- a shame it didn't work out for AM. Great video Matt, cheers.
Great interview with Derek, and didn't his face light up and enthusiasm shine through when the topic switched from biz to actual cars.? Excellent work Matt.
Matt this was two of my favourite motor channels rolled into one. A shame Derek didn't know of High Peak Autos but he has all the cars he needs. We are the ones who watch you tube to see what we can afford and also dream off. You treat cars with love and care and your channel is one I look for every week.
Great video Matt 👍🏻 always nice to see enthusiasts and car nuts like a lot of us meeting up and showing off their cars 👍🏻 you should definitely do another one or more. And bring the Mathewson clan along with you! What a team 😀
A nice day wandering around in a field looking at cars takes some beating. Add in the entertainment of an auction and I wish I’d been there. Derek is a ‘real’ car man isn’t he.
Awesome. Great content, excellent informal chat with Derek, some beautiful cars. Soon to have your own show Terrestrial TV. Keep chasing Matt, you'll get there
An interesting feature and great to see your interaction with Derek. Some mutual respect here I think. These types of classic gatherings are great and they can broaden your knowledge and perhaps open up new opportunities. 1990s and early 2000s cars are gathering interest and are still relevant to modern buyers - not just hot hatches either.
Definitely do plenty more shows. They have a great vibe and camaraderie. I moved from the UK to Cape Town 16 years ago and they have a few shows like this over here (without the auction bit). Most of the cars are classic British vehicles which makes me feel right at home. I always enjoy your channel. Good work.
Meeting Derek was a great day alone, to interview him was even better. Would love you to have chatted with the rest of his family to polish off this interesting video. Great day out as you said Matt.
I remember seeing the Aston Martin Lagonda at earls court, and pretty sure it was around 1976, what a car it looked, but how it flopped. I wonder how much the Toyota crown went for?
The early P1800 bodies were made by Pressed Steel in Linwood, Scotland and assembled by Jensen. Due to quality issues production was moved to Sweden and rebadged as the P1800S, the "S" denoting that the car was Swedish built and, allegedly, of better quality.
@@HighPeakAutos I'm the person who slots in-between you two. I'm late 50's in age so know the 80's Ford's etc but also owned cars either side of that era. Great video Matt 😊
Lovely collaboration there from two of my favourite car people. As an older man with a passion for classics and modern classics, I think I could have helped you identify some of the cars… I think the E Type was a Series 2 (I’m such a geek) 🤓
I never knew Matthewson's had gone mobile! My two favourites that I noticed there were the Triumph Stag and the Kublwagen from World War Two. Definitely do more videos based on these kind of shows.
Spot on Interview, so good of you both, a friend took me to Mathewson's in Thornton Le Dale about 6 years ago we had a good look around at the classic's and really enjoyed it. I remember when that Lagonda came out, it was out of this world beautiful and featured in all the newspapers, The futuristic look of the interior has not aged well as it looks so bland versus anything else Aston Martin has done. Love the Red Mini and the Blue pick up, still making people take notice after all these decades. Thanks again Matt.
It seemed that way yeah. Sad times that he’s left his wife for one of the office girls who is 26 years his junior… who can be seen loitering in the background during the whole interview with @highpeakautos in this vid. Thanks
That Cortina was definitely a Mk.4. My Dad had a Mk.4 two litre S back in the 1970s. A cracking motor that was.
gutted, didnt even realise this was on looks great and i could of potentially ran into you which would of been fantastic, was looking for a decent car show at the weekend, ended up at at a much smaller than billed one in warrick yesterday that was basically just a carpark full, nice cars but not worth the long drive to get there, luckily took a wrong turn and didnt realise how close i was to the british motor museum so that saved the day, excellent video, would love to see more of this stuff :)
Went Saturday great to meet the bangers and cash family and crew
Nice. I bought an old car at the auction in June. Lovely people.
Really enjoy your videos Matt and great to see you venturing into the world of classics. Was hoping you'd have a look around that gorgeous white Capri, but maybe another time!
