Why I Stopped Buying 22k Gold - 24k vs 22k Gold Coins

- 24k vs 22k gold and why I stopped buying 22k gold coins to focus on 24k gold instead. I bought American Gold Eagles almost exclusively for nearly a decade before switching to Gold Buffalos and other 24k gold coins. I'm not done with Eagles and I don't have anything 22k coins in general, but this is what I'm up to currently.

Here in New Zealand, Eagles are subject to Goods and Services tax (15%), which you don't recover when you sell unless you're registered for GST. (Unlikely). So lose 6% and another 15% immediately. Pure is the only sensible option.
Yeah, there would be no question to me if VAT/GST/HST was involved. Cheers!
Your government hates you. Your job is to fund their insane socialism and only they reap the political power and rewards.
New Zealand is such a biiig country.... Not! Anyone with the sense outside NZ with eagles would sell them outside or online before entering the country.
New Zealand is leaded by socialists, that says all...
Taxation is theft it is your duty as a sovereign individual and tell them fuck you
Bro..... I love the Buffalo but I can't stand the uneven rim issues with the Buffalo... the Eagle for me is perfect esthetically and I don't stack world gold... so my go to preference is the Gold Eagle hands down.
I give the Buffalos a pass on rim evenness. Not sure why.
Im hoping the mint goes to a 24k eagle.
@@2is1gold If you kept them in tubes you would not like it. But in capsules it's not an issue.
I'll take the GOLD EAGLES too.. Buffalo Gold coins will chip if you drop.... So keep incapsulated if you have them.
0:00 🤔 Choosing between 22 karat and 24 karat gold coins involves considering aesthetics, popularity, and potential tax implications.
5:42 📊 Popular gold bullion coins like American Gold Eagles and South African Krugerrands are 22 karat, but preferences may vary based on region and buyer demographics.
7:56 🛡 Newer buyers may prefer 24 karat coins for their aesthetics and security features, while older buyers may stick to 22 karat coins due to familiarity and availability.
8:09 💼 Security features, tax implications, and personal preferences play a significant role in determining whether to invest in 22 karat or 24 karat gold coins.
8:55 💰 Despite differences, both 22 karat and 24 karat gold coins remain valuable investments, with individual preferences influencing purchasing decisions.
Call me crazy, but I just like the 22k better. For one, most 24k is very reflective…proof, or near proof. I prefer a matte finish. Also, I like coins that look like coins, so more often, actual 19th-20th century coins (Double eagles, 100 Coronas, 50 pesos, etc). Also, the copper alloy in older coins give the gold a slightly orange glow that I love. The yellow in 24k is just not as pretty to me. I love the idea of having a very pure coin, but I just don’t like the way they are made as much.
Also the american eagle sounds much nicer than the buffalo - the "ping" sound is longer in 22k gold. I also prefer 22k coins.
hey thats cool we can like different things just like our coin collections are different :) im more of a fan of 24K gold myself
Great Video!!! I'm newer to stacking and I'm pretty much only buying 24k gold coins. I do have a couple of smaller Eagles but the coins that I like and own are Buffalos, Maples and Kangaroos.
Buffalo for the win 🦬
I have a preference for 9999 gold. I really like the Britannias and Perth mint products, as you know. I want my gold to look like gold, not copper. The AGE is OK, but I really don't care for the Krugs.
👋 The Krugs definitely have their own color.
Hey Lovie!
Started with 24k and I still stick to it :)
@@2is1gold btw I did end up buying my few ounces at the bottom of 1800 to follow up my comment last week
Really weird I commented before watching the video but when you said the younger folk are into the 24k I laughed because I’m young and I chose 24k from the start for all the reasons you described. Almost at 5 ounces now, all between Perth mint 1 oz bars, buffalos ,and quarter ounce maple leafs from when I first started
Im a buffalo guy, but am picking up an eagle just because i dont have one 🤷🏻♂️all buffalos after this
I'm probably different than most here, I have always loved the look of the old 90% US gold. That said I now live in Canada and not only is getting that more difficult but as you mentioned there's tax involved. My recent purchases have been Buffaloes and that's not likely to change for my next purchase.
I like some of the pre-33 a lot. I dislike some a fair amount too. I like yellow. 🤩
I like the durability of 90% gold. I like the highly liquid nature of fractional gold eagles as "trade up" gold. But if it's modern bullion 1 ozt coins, then 24K is it due to the international tax implications.
24k is like hospital sterile metal, while 22k pre-1933 US coins are warm, pretty, and durable to be handled. Still 24k is more desired worldwide than impure.
I just want to live like Smaug, safe and snug in a cave, buried in millions of pure gold coins.
HA! Don't we all.
Have we established that those coins in Smaug’s lair are 24k? Based on the rest of Tolkien’s world, it is more akin to the Middle Ages, which would mean it’s definitely not pure. But it’s also fantasy, so who knows. I think Stephen Colbert needs to weigh in on this.
Pure vs. almost pure ??? hmmmm I pick PURE 24k gold. And I actually like the Maples better than the Buffalo.
🤜🤛
I really enjoyed that talk, thank you.
I do prefer the look of 24 carat.
I think the buffalo having imperfections, seems to suit that coin in particular. Gives it character and confirmation of its organic-ness.
Love your work by the way! 😎
Agreed on the Buffalo. The rugged design allows some imperfections. Cheers!
Something must be wrong with me, I find myself staring at your most excellent knife collection instead of the coins.
Ha!
New buyers go for pretty coins. They believe that pretty makes em more valuable. If you do some homework you find out differently. Experienced buyers will not turn down a kruggerand or a type one eagle. They know that the entire world recognizes these bullion coins. New buyers might go for an artsy coin with lions and tigers on it. Its a tell. Noob.
Ha! 😅
I prefer 24K as well for the reasons you mentioned here. The newer sovereigns are alloyed with more copper, so they have a rose color to them which is different and almost looks like copper on comparison to one alloyed with silver and a little copper. There's something about pure gold.
Newer Sovereigns are very pink. I'm not into it. Eagles have never bugged me in terms of color, though. At least not until they sit next to a 24k coin. 🤩
I own and sell both but like 24k Buffalo's much better. Thanks for the video.
Hey, thanks for watching! 🤘
I mean, gold is gold right? It shouldn’t matter, and if I didn’t have access to the internet, Krugerrands would be just fine. But after seeing them on RUclips next to Buffaloes and Maples, I know the next coin I want to own is 24k gold. I think side by side, it just looks better.
European gold 20 and 40 franc coins are beautiful, durable (90% AU), have a ton of history, and have low low premiums compared to newly minted bullion
Subscribed. I don't care about looks at all, just trying to learn to have a small amount in an asset.
🤜🤛
😁 I just get the cheapest premiums I can get, I don't care about anything else. The more gold I can get for the money the better and I think I'll always be that way (even though I'm new)
🤜🤛
A Kruger a day keeps the doctor away! #Krugersupremacy
True - I forgot about that. 😄
I’ll take whichever one people want less. Lower premiums equals more ounces over time.
One hella good video on the comparison of 22 vs 24. As a noob to the game, this helps a bunch when I finally pick up my first 1 ouncer!
Thanks and good luck!
Gold buffalos all day
My beef with the Krugerrand is the reddish hue imparted by the copper detracts from the brilliance of the gold. My understanding is that the copper makes the coins more durable. Couldn't the same benefit be had using silver to alloy the gold?
24k all the way for me. The features, quality, and look of coins like Maples and Britannias are leading the pack IMO. I think the brit coat of arms you got there will be my next buy!
It's a gorgeous coin. Cheers!
Do you ever wonder why every sovereign of just about every country always used copper in their coinage or gold, because not only does it make the coin stronger, it also makes it so much more beautiful. The copper mixed with the gold is outstanding
Britts tudor collection is ehhh boring, Plus I wouldn't trust the Royal men as far as I can throw them. If I'm going 24 karat I'm going with the older maples which is the most beautiful 24 karat gold coin ever made
I used to really prefer 24, but either one has 1oz of gold.
💯
I have maples and krugs. I love my krugs. The Krugs are from apartheid era and the historical significance of the coins adds character to me. I feel like they have a real story to them I imagine someone had them hidden for a long time lol. I also like how much bigger they are it feels like I'm holding pirate gold. The Canadian Maples just look so boring with the 2022 stamp and they are so small. For me the tinge on the krugs and the slight wear and age is just so much more appealing. I guess that's the collector in me bubbling to the surface
I'm into the 24k because of lower premiums. I picked up some Britannias last year far below the cost of eagles. An oz of gold is an oz of gold
🤜🤛
With some countries hitting you with a value added tax on 22k it only makes sense to stack your country of origin’s 22k coin only being they aren’t taxed in your country. 24k is tax free internationally so it makes the most sense to have 2/3rds of your stack 24k. Like the silver folks call junk silver sometimes, “Spending Silver”. 90% silver or 999.9 silver. It’s all about utility and purpose. Diversifying is wise but don’t get to heavy into something that is potentially punitive.
Cheers 🥃
We’ll put. 🤜🥃🥃🤛
I stay 50/50....... except when I don't. LOL
Ha!
Maybe just me, but I like the look of 22k. 24k is just too yellow for my taste.
The eagle does have a beautiful ring when you gently tap it. I like to spread it around Styles are cyclical. I have pamp bars, and love them or hate them, I love the 590 an ounce cost basis better than the 1700 basis for the eagle I have. The Perth mint coins are really the most eye catching though...
Yeah, I agree on cycles. I'll always like Eagles to sock away. If I was going harder after weight right now, I'd still probably choose them. Cheers!
the gold buffalo does not make sense to me.
1. It's a bison, not a buffalo, different species.
2. American Indians never used coins as currency before Europeans arrived.
3. design. should we put a founding father? no. symbol of freedom? no. then what? Indian. why? social justice.
4. what's with the fake worn look? No one is slapping this on a counter and sliding it to the cashier. missed opportunity to make a pretty design.
I’d love to see some new variety from the Mint. Cheers!
I'm a fan of the 24k as I like the look. I feel like the 22k has a slightly less attractive color and feels like exactly what it's not: pure gold.
After I complete having one of each denomination in both T1 and T2 from last year, I'm done with AGE unless a good deal pops up. It'll be Buffalos and overseas gold for me, love that .9999 gold look. Good post Brother!
Thanks!
Yeah same here. Last couple years I've restarted my gold sovereign collecting. Much more fun and many different coins can be found from several hundred years past. The history behind the coins is fascinating.
Curious about Canadian 1 ounce gold coin with “5” 9’s in purity. The newer buyers go that way? Yes the old guard loves Kuggerands and American Eagles I.e. my brother and the fractional Swiss Francs. Thanks for discussing the 22-24 karat difference. Very informative 👏👏
The 5 9s coins from the RCM are gorgeous coins. I don’t like the assays they come in, but that can be fixed! 🔪😄
Most of my coins are Maple leafs. They are the first I bought and the security features gave me the confidence I was getting what I paid for.
CMLs are the universal coin in my opinion. Cheers!
I've only stacked some gold(all fractional), but I prefer the 24k, over 22k. I did make a point to get one 1/2 oz AGE, otherwise I prefer Maples, gold Britannias, & Argor Hereaus bars.
Great video.
You should look at the value. Pure gold will always win.
Hello 👋
24k Gold Bars Best 👌 ❤
In my part of world 🌎 24k 999.0% or 999.9 Gold bars Top demand
👋🤩
24k of course
🤩
I get the coin thing but I'm not a coin collector . But I am buying gold . But watching for a while now it seems that not all 24 k. Gold is equal. I would love you to expand on the coin vr. Bars . I'm of the thought 24 k is 24 k . Is the coin thing about what's popular on today's market. I have Gold for the system failure. And at that point is there a difference
Mostly it's for recognizability. I need to pick up some bars first!
Started stacking last year and I only buy 9999 fine gold and silver.
🤜🤛
Eagles. I don’t play with my money. It’s not a toy, it’s a long-term investment. I know that it has the same 1 Troy ounce and don’t need to think purity improves sale value. I want the best bang for the buck, and that’s the eagles. Mine are kept in a dark dry private location that I only go into when I need to check the inventory or make a deposit. And for that reason, Eagles all day every day.
🤜🤛
It's 24k gold Buffalos for me.
American Purity
🤩
I'm still working my way toward my first oz. I am of the notion that my first full 1oz Gold coin will be an American Gold Eagle, although I have always been drawn to the Maple leaf. I want to be able to hold the coin bare in my hand, and I just feel safer with the 22k. Ultimately the price will probably make the decision for me. Your videos are pure eye candy. Thank you so much. Stack long and prosper.
Me again. I have had 22k eagles and didnt like them because the look like a freaking penny. 24k or No Way, for me homeboy.
Ha! I still like them, personally, but I get it. The sun metal should be yellow.
I'm about to cash in an old IRA acct to get some more
I even like the $5 US Commemoratives at .2417 oz. / 90%. They have the same quality as the pre 1933 coins and are affordable. I also like the 22k and 24k. I just get the best bang for the buck.
the British Coins are good ones to have. ^^ The queen is 96 years old now and the Jody Clark's portrait looks awesome. I cannot imagine collecting Prince Charles portrait coin later.
Hard sigh when Charles hits the coins.
Eagles and krugs all day. Dump them in tubes and no worries about money sucking dings and dents on 24 k.
🤜🤛
I love 24K! The color, the purity, the Buffalo itself all lend a hand in my personal preference. They do get scratched easily though but if they are in a capsule it doesn’t matter anyway.
🤩
@@2is1gold My Krugerrand That’s also in a capsule almost takes on a slight copper color
I agree 100%
@@go4it764 It's more than 8% copper so that makes sense.
OK so start selling me your eagles I will gladly take them off your hands, if you want my information just ask
Ha!
22K all the way, 24K you have to be gentle with them can not “enjoy” them as much.
That's a real consideration. Cheers!
Eagles make up the main stack of my gold, they are absolutely beautiful and classic, I couldn't imagine not having the marriage of copper and gold, it just destroys pure 24 karat in my opinion.
I'll just stick to Britannias. Gold and silver. Easier over here.
🤜🤛
Im 50 and I love buffalos so that means Im young
100%
I agree the 24K coins are just prettier. Not just because they have a pure gold shine, unlike the rather plain Kruggerrand, but also because their designs are just so pretty and detailed, and I really love these super hard laser engraving security features
Shame on you 2is1 for not having the Great British Britannia in your collection!! With the premiums on Golden Eagles here in the UK the Krugerand is a much better buy, plus they are very liquid if you need, (or want to sell). Buying one Krug a year plus Sovereigns I think that's enough 22K for me and the rest is pure Gold. I just love that soft yellow glow of .9999....nice!!!
Ha! I'll bring them back. I had a 2021 Britannia on the channel immediately when they launched. The Royal Mint did a fantastic job on them. Cheers!
24k or bust. My stack is only buffaloes and maples.
Two of my favorites. Cheers!
I own nothing but ML, except for a Krugerrand and a 1922 20 Swiss Franc. I think for new stackers the 1/4 ML is a good place to start. Reasonable price and and easy to sell
24k for investment pieces. 22k or 23k for jewelry.
🤜🤛
I don't necessarily have a preference either way... I think that the American Gold Eagles are beautiful, however, the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf is just in a class of its own.
Events in the world recently tell us that USA isn't the most influential in the world; China/Asia influence dictates that 24k gold is more liquid in more areas. Same goes for the countries that dislike America. If it comes time to sell, yes, sell inside local, but at least the Maples/Kangaroo are everybody's friend and pretty inoffensive on the outside. However, USA has their own form of tax on anything that isn't an Eagle, so you are kind of screwed either way. Go for variety.
The 1099-b reporting requirement is specific to kilo bars, Maples, Krugs and Mexican gold. That might change to include other mints, but right now there are quite a few options. Cheers!
@@2is1gold Not just the reporting, but is it also Eagles don't get capital gains taxes because of the dollar designation? The rest have to be included as taxable income?
24k all the way!
🤜🤛
I only wish buffalos were readily available in fractional. 😜
So say we all!
Why do you not have all of your gold coins, esp the gold Buffalos in capsules??
I take them out for videos.
If gold buffalos are 24k gold, why can you handle them so much compared to the other 24k coins you keep in capsules? Is it because the buffalo mint isn't as quality?
The matte finish and smooth sculpture make them pretty impervious to micro scratches like some of the others. Cheers!
Ya' learn something new daily! Thanks!@@2is1gold
Gotta go with the pure stuff…
Such a good video. I’m always rethinking what I like the most. And as for design and security features it’s the Britannia over the maple. I like the Buffalo over the Eagle mostly for its pure golden look and It’s not something I would be dinging up, but those Eagle’s are solid and have a nice look and I actually like the large head eagle on the reverse. I want to buy other coins but I’m not in any hurry right now
Eagles, Buffalos and Britannias would be a good mix. Cheers!
I’m newer to stacking and just started last year. I’ve never been into a coin shop and only shop with Apmex, JM Bullion, Bullion Exchanges and SD bullion. So I ensure I’m buying from a reputable place and I always check prices against all of those sites before making a purchase. I also purchased a sigma metalytics and test every coin. I started with AGE and of course wanted one of type 1 and 2 so had to get both of those. Then got two buffalos. I then got drawn into the other mints and the fact they are 24k so I got Britannia, maple leaf, Royal arms, etc. got some fun ones too like year of the tiger stuff and a Scrooge McDuck one because it had nostalgia for me since I grew up on that show and always wanted a money bin haha. I buy whatever looks cool to me but I don’t spend way over for proofs or anything. If I’m gonna drop 2k on a coin, I go with whatever excites me. For example, I want a gold libertad but it’s 3500 and I think to myself ok I can buy almost two ounces of something else. Hopefully when 2022 libertads come out I can snag one for not too much premium.
I can relate to the thinking here and can tell you're serious about it if you've grabbed a Sigma. Good luck with the Libertads! I think I'll catch one for a deal every year but never do! 😄
@@2is1gold thanks Man! Love your videos. I’ve unsubscribed to some others who got a little annoying but yours are always on point 👌. Although Every time you flash a cool coin it makes me want it too lol. Good luck on a libertad as well. Maybe this will be our year haha. I might be willing to overpay by some. For 2500 I would prob pull the trigger. 3k or more is just hard for me psychologically!
some people shouldn't cry over spilled breast milk
😢
Prefer 24k over 22k based solely on color. It just looks like what I expect Gold to look like. I am happy I own both, but prefer the Buffalo.
🤜🤛
I’m an old guy, with an American Indian Hx, and I prefer the bison.
One of many new taxes in the coming gold standard exchange reality will be imposed on private holders based on purity of metals they want 'cashed in'. The lower the purity, the higher the tax. This should be a no-brainer for anyone with an ounce of foresight. The powers that be will use any and all tactics to limit outside wealth from reaping their true rewards.
A good analogy is the housing market antics government and mortgage agents use to keep fueling sales. When sales would slow, the rates lowered, then down payment minimums lowered, then amortization levels rose, now the idea of interest only mortgages are being tossed out. The point is rules change to benefit the machine, NOT you.
Buffalos look better, and that’s a scientific fact! 🧐
😄
More gold > less gold, so yes, 24k > 22k
I like the look of 24 better but usually end up with a Eagle. Mostly due to LCS availability. Not a big deal to me as gold is gold.
Love your content.
Thanks!!
I say, Gold is Gold, but the 1 oz Gold American Eagle Coin (BU) - Type 1 would be the best choice due to its global notoriety and liquidity status!
🤜🤛
OK, I'm getting tired of explaining this:
American Gold Eagle and American Gold Buffalo coins BOTH contain ONE OUNCE OF PURE 24K GOLD! For the love of , grow a pair and back me up on this point!
BOTH COINS contain one ounce of 24K gold. The ONLY difference between the two coins is that the American Gold Eagle contains an additional 0.09 ounces of a copper/silver alloy that adds much-needed durability to the coin; therefore, its total weight is 1.09 ounces per coin. And that is why it is rated at 22K gold... because even though it has a FULL 24K gold content, the added alloy changes the rating for the whole coin to 22K... BUT IT STILL CONTAINS A FULL OUNCE OF 24K GOLD! JUST LIKE THE GOLD BUFFALO! What is so hard to understand about this point?
An American Gold Buffalo is ONE OUNCE EVEN of pure 24K gold... but nothing else. There is no added alloy added for extra durability. Therefore, it is like a pat of butter. If you sneeze on it or look at it too hard, it suffers a ding, scratch, or dent. (I'm exaggerating, but you get the point.) Prior to 1933, ALL American gold coins included an alloy and were NOT 100% pure 24K gold. Why? Because they could be used in circulation and they needed the extra durability.
So please, if you prefer one over the other, that's fine, but be sure to give all the facts to viewers. There is absolutely zero difference in value between the two coins. If anything, the American Gold Eagle might be worth slightly more only because it is so well recognized worldwide.
To me buffalos look like they could just as easily been made by the Indian on the front of it, pounded out with a rock- minted coins should be nicer.
I wasn't a fan at first, but they've really grown on me. Cheers!
Micro-engraving + soft 24K gold seems like a recipe for disaster when it comes to spotting a fake. Personally, I like the hardness and ubiquity of Am Gold Eagles plus a simple ping test will confirm it is genuine. I'd venture a guess that neither lead nor Tungsten can make the resonating sound of an eagle while also meeting the dimensional and weight requirements.
But yeah, 24k definitely looks better!
There are ways to be pretty confident what you have is authentic... if you know what to look / listen for. Cheers!
I have no preference. I like them all.
Even bad pizza is still pretty good?
Both have the same amount of gold, a Buffalo weighs 31.108 g, and American Eagle weighs 33.931 g. The Eagle weighs more because of the copper and silver added to harden the gold. To me gold is gold,
Are $2 capsules really an issue??
I stack both I love my 22k eagles and my 24k buffalos but you are so right sometimes it’s boring just stacking eagles so you switch it up with maples, Brit’s, etc but I always come back to the eagles or buffalos at the end of the day bc they are the most liquid for us in the states! Great video bro 😎💪🏻
Yep, anything other than a Buffalo or Eagle is fun but also a side quest. Cheers!
Tell a person who has no goal that it's boring stacking 22k gold eagles, There is nothing boring about stacking gold, take about 20 1/2 ounce eagles and stack them high under white Christmas lights in a dark room, what a sight! I know 24 karat looks beautiful too but let's face face it, all gold coins are gorgeous
@@goldeneye70 you know what a mean lol stacking any precious isn’t boring it’s just nice to mix it up
@@patrioticstacker I've been in this game for almost 20 years, I love eagles, I'm an eagle man. I used to prefer 24 karat, I started out with maples and then I really started to love the mix of copper and gold and I went straight to eagles and krugers. I also have a lot of the lucky coins and lots of sovereigns. There's a reason why all sovereigns are a mix of copper and gold. I dropped a 1984 1 oz gold Maple and the Dent was horrific, if I would have dropped a one oz eagle it probably wouldn't even have dented. But anyways that's not the reasoning, I just like copper n gold mixed together, it's just a more refined look to me.
@@patrioticstacker I have a little bit of everything, my favorite 24 karat is the old brush back Maple.
At the end of the day you're paying for the metal not the coin. 24k will always be superior if you're investing in "gold"
The future is 24 K at the global standard.
I'm not a coin collector so 24k to me means more value because you wont have to refine any farther to get the purity. I'm into gold and silver for the metal. That's another reason why I like generic silver rounds over constitutional. And yes I'm new!

when buyers/dealers see a Buffalo their eyes light up.
🤩
Thanks for the video. The wife comes from SE Asia. When I suggested to her buying 22 carat gold, she just turned around and said that isn't REAL gold! Hence, all our Gold is 24. tbh, I think 24 looks better, more shinier. I just wish it would get cheaper when its buy time!
Ha! That settles it then! 😄
I agree with the assessment. I’m new and just purchased my first Buffallo gold coin. I was drawn to it than most of the coins I’ve looked at online. Honestly I didn’t even know the Buffallo was a 24 karat and the eagle wasn’t.
Our central bank here in south africa buys krugerrands from the public,so im good with stacking them,i know who to sell to in the future.
22 carat for durability and longevity. Hate the new buzzard. I do love maple leafs. I live near Canada. Same with Britannias. I used to buy sovereigns. I’ve steered away from them. Old!?!?
Preference has always been the 1oz. Buffalo ever since it was released. Personally, Eagles just look a bit---dare we say, 'dirty' due to the coppery hue along with every other 22K coin. Being U.S. based and biased toward U.S. coinage, there's something about Black Diamond in both BU & PF that draws the eyes like a moth to a flame even though there are a few AGEs in the hoard, Black Diamond is and will continue to be the majority.
Cheers!

24K foreign coins are TAXABLE by the I.R.S. The American gold Eagle is by far the most popular gold coin for collecting and investing.
The eagle as the identical amount of gold as any 24K coin. Pure 24K coins are just too fragile, delicate and scratched easily.
I only have 99.99% fine / 24k gold bars because I regard anything less than that 92.5% fine / 22k) as an alloy.
Also under certain light conditions, you can visibly tell a colour difference. 22k coins look either slightly lighter in colour or slightly more copper in colour, which belies the fact they are an alloy.
24k is unquestionably 'prettier'. Cheers!
I heard the reason for 22k is because they are made to be carried around like pirates and cowboys. The 24k is for looks and not being handled much
Are you a cowboy or a pirate? 🏴☠️
Here's my issue with it and I'm sure others have already commented the same or similar sentiment: AGEs have a higher premium than the gold Britannians, for less total gold. How does that make any sense? You're paying more money for less gold...makes no sense to me.
Same amount of gold. Both coins have a full ounce of pure gold. Eagles just have some extra copper and silver on board. Cheers!
@@2is1gold I genuinely did not know this. That's seriously some viewpoint changing information lol. I had always believed all the gold coins weighed exactly 1 Troy ounce and never understood why anyone would buy anything but the .9999 coins, thanks for the info!
I only collect pure bullion but this past week made my first 22k purchases of gold eagles. Diversity!
I’m just getting started in gold again. In May I bought 2 Buffaloes and 2 Maple Leafs. Previous purchases were 10oz in the 80s.
Good choices. Cheers!
