- A JBL tuner 2 unboxing, review and sound test. This is a quick unboxing of the JBL tuner 2 before giving it a good review followed by a sound test! I'm not saying this is the best Bluetooth speaker of 2023, but it's very good for the money, especially when it has an fm and dab radio functionality too!

We love all tech here at my tech tests, but we're very fond of not only JBL bluetooth speakers, but all bluetooth speakers! This particular review is for the JBL tuner 2 where I also give it a thorough sound test. In the next video I put it up against the JBL GO 3?!

I have this model, and it actually sounds better standing up , Thanks for the tip! (or tilt it a little backwards), presumably because the sound waves do not hit the (table)surface and gets disturbed or braked up (as long as it is not placed on the edge of the table, then it has nothing or little to say whether it is lying down or standing up). I would also like to mention that the location of the unit has a lot to say for the sound reproduction, lower in a corner, or next to a wall, produces even more bass , but at the expense of treble reproduction (try out yourself to find the sound you prefer).
Otherwise, I would prefer it to be stereo reproduction (two separate speakers) for wider sound-landscape (if you are close to the unit), and that there should be AUX out, and not in, so that I could connect it to my stereo system. Nevertheless, I really would recommend this DAB+ radio, nice to have in the bathroom, kitchen , at work or outdoors ("bring the sound with you").
You're right about the bass when placed lower down. I have it on the floor at work while I'm painting and it sounds great! And yeh, two connected would be awesome! 👌
DAB+ radio always displays no signal what can I do for solving? and do you now how I do hard reset?
Yes it does Sound Better in Real Use than the Demo on Here.

Yeh I have to say I was very impressed and it's a radio too. The hHorizon 2 is a little better I think after comparing them both. I uploaded that video a few weeks ago if you're interested.

It doesn't have a pause button. There's no need for one.
I have the JBL Tuner original. I am happy with it so far. What I don't like is that there is basically no chance of repairability. This is kind of sad. Years ago flat batteries had to be exchanged, today devices go into landfill.
I couldn't agree more! Unfortunately, today, we are a 'throw away society'. Once upon a time a carpenter would have a saw sharpened. Now we just buy a new saw when our old one gets blunt?! And this time of year we would replace Xmas light bulbs if they didn't light up. Now you can't, so we have to buy a complete new set if they don't work. Sorry, you've got me started now! 😂. There's loads more examples as I'm sure you know. But yes, it's very sad.

Thank you for this but when reviewing a tuner keep in mind that people looking for a tuner are interested in the radio/tuner part not speaker/bluetooth part which are everywhere. So, i would have like to see prominence given to how it tunes and presets stations. Is it easy for old people to use for radio etc.
That's a good point, but tbh I didn't want to get involved with the tuner as I'd get a copyright notice. Although I might do a video in future about tuning etc. It's obviously different to the older turning tuning knobs that oldies might be familiar with, but it's just a press button to start a scan for stations, so yes it's not really that difficult in all honesty.
Weird that one can't pause the BlueTooth-music via the device without leaving the mode if ya need a quick break for whatever reason.
No not at all. There's no pause button on most, if any bluetooth devices. You'd pause it from the source, such as your mobile or laptop 👍
Can you pair it with JBL bluetooth speakers like Charge 3 or with bluetooth headphones?

Honestly have no idea. I'm guessing it works in all countries. Might have to Google search it for your country, or ask on the JBL website 👍

Help can anyone help! Wife will only accept it if it starts playing (last played fm station) by pressing only ONE (ON) button. Do I get it?
Tbh that is somewhat of a strange question? It's a great little radio/bluetooth speaker that I use everyday at work (painting). Great sound and lasts all day on full charge, can't go wrong 👌
@@MyTechTalks not doubt but if you get it as a kitchen radio for someone who doesn’t want to deal with technology and has to spend time with it every morning to start while he/she is in a hurry and it does not suit you.
Ok. Well you press the start button, it takes a few seconds to power up and then you can simply press any one of five buttons to go straight to a station that you've pre-tuned to those buttons, hope that helps 🤞

How long your jbl tuner 2 stands? My max 5.5 hours on max volume, anyone same or should I start worrying?
Not much you can do really tbh so not worth worrying about, unless it's new then it could be faulty. If not, then 5 hours on full volume isn't bad, and you can charge it while its playing too 👍
@@MyTechTalks problem is that I have it, new and producent says 12 hours of what? What level? Minimum, maximum or average? Maybe on max 5 hours is normal, maybe not. Can't find nowhere information, so just contacted jbl service, maybe they will tell me.
On the Jbl website it says up to 12 hours playtime, depending on music levels. 5 hours on full volume doesn't seem quite right to be honest. Obviously just make sure it's fully charged and keep it plugged in whenever you can. Alternatively take it or send it back. Hope you sort it out 🤞

No it doesn't, good question though and something you might expect, like a clock radio. Showing my age now! Truth is, there's so many clocks everywhere else nowadays it isn't something I've even thought about once, and I use this most days. It's a great little radio with plenty of power! 👍

I don't know you dad, but I do know I love it and would be very pleased if one of my kids bought it for me. If he likes the radio he'll like this. And it has Bluetooth too of course.

sorry to be pedantic, both DAB and FM rely on "radio waves" !
The difference is in the way the "radio waves" are encoded .
You may be correct, but the following is taken from Google search...
This is different to FM, for example, which is sound that is transmitted via radio waves, and you can adjust it to suit your location. The range of DAB is much wider, and because it is digitally transmitted, the quality is also better. Because it does not use radio waves, there is no noise.

I'd agree the digital bit is different. DAB stands for Digital Audio Broadcasing (over radio waves !)
FM is analogue broadcasting over radio waves. (using Frequency Modulation of the radio waves)
AM is yet another form of analogue broadcasting over radio waves . Using Amplitude Modulation of the radio waves.
(and even more noisy than FM analogue broadcasting)

DAB, FM and AM are all using radio waves.
The digital signal in DAB , is I also think using Frequency Modulation of the radio waves for transmitting it's digital bits. (wouldn't want to use AM for that ).

Hey no problem. I have no problem not knowing about something, that's normal. I was only going by what various sources said. Too technical for me, and to be totally honest I don't find that type of stuff that interesting anyway. Thanks for the input!

sorry , this sounds smug, I do realise it might come across as "bad". I did do electronics (which included some parts about radio ) to HNC ( half a degree ! ) level some 30 odd years ago.
Google searches will sometimes throw up drivel.
and yes , digital encoding should suffer from less noise than analogue. Although when a signal is really noisy, digital encoding systems just completely break down.
So with digital , it really is literally "On" and "off" in many ways.
The digitally encoded signal will "hang on" until the bitter end , and then just not work !
Whereas analogue encoding , the signal will slowly get noisier and hissier.
I dunno , there's always a downside along with the upsides !
@karlosh9286 no worries, all good my friend! Electronics is another level that's beyond me. Each to their own. There's plenty of room on RUclips for electronics, with teardowns and talking about the inside of stuff, the components etc. Especially speakers, phones and similar popular stuff. Maybe you should think about it 🤔👍

@@MyTechTalks How sensitive is FM reception compared to other FM devices? Above average, below? It is good to test it somewhere outdoor, far away from transmiters.
It's no different to any other fm reception tbh. The difference is the DAB which is good 👍
Just bought it. Not impressed. Not 12 hours. Even playing quarter volume. More like 4 hours. And sound quality clip 4 is far superior in sound quality. The radio connection is weak. I am pretty disappointed. So am going to send back.
Sorry to hear that, but I have a different opinion tbh. I love mine at work, and it lasts at least 8 hours on medium volume, so a bit strange yours doesn't, maybe it's faulty?
@@MyTechTalks yes I am thinking mine must be faulty. Just trialled it against sound quality of clip 4 speaker. Which is sound I expected. It's really below par. No high hats heard. It's not great sound quality. And the radio signal is weak. Compared to a radio half the price I have to have ariel pulled right up. Sound isn't balanced. Too much duff duff duff which isn't suitable for all music. I wish it had sound quality of the clip 4. But it doesn't. And the battery is major let down. But you might be right could be a faulty one. Or I have high standards for sound. Other products I own revo dab radio. Bose headphones. Bose wave radio alarm. Seinheisser audiophile headphones and jbl clip 4... So might be I have high standards and expect more. But still battery life is poor.
Do t buy this product. . If there is an problem JBL workshop doesn't have parts to repair .
I just lost my money because it's not repairable now.

Even you warranty , they can not. They refused as they said the don’t have parts
I would ask to speak with a manager and keep fighting for a replacement or some compensation. If they won't help, then threaten to contact the CEO of the company, seriously 👍
