just discovered your channel and i really enjoy the content you’re genuine and really show the audience your personality it’s super hard to come across content with such originality i appreciate your videos and hard work keep it up i hope to see the channel grow tremendously
Sometimes fishing is unpredictable. I was on a party boat and my friend brought his own rod...his pole broke and he was hand lining the porgies. Great content and looks fun.
Wooo. That handline ing scared me. Had a friendship cut his hand real bad. You can really tell how expirenced Rodrigo is. He made it look easy Great video
That reel that Rodrigo gave you, I’ve had it for a couple years and it has given out on big bass before. Wild that you’re using it for sturgeon and it’s actually working
Damn good show Daniel! That was a Rod Buster moment with the reel, but, busting rods (reels) and landing the hogs is what it is all about! The food looked very delicious! gonna try it!
Thank you for doing the fish justice and cooking it the right way....I've seen many people "attempt" to cook one and they do it all wrong and say it was not good to eat or too fishy...Good job Dave
If you were out there on the 17th then that was mostly likely us behind you anchored near the post. Caught 9 sharks that day. Some good footage as well. Love the catch and cook, I have gotten quite a few rays and always thrown them back.
I paid .50 cents for one pound of sting ray wing it was about six pounds in weight. I bought the entire wing and the fish vendor cleaned the skin out. I made a delicious curry and white rice. I know everybody has different tastebuds but I would anything
It taste like scallops a little but to me it taste like what it is I ate it cook in olive oil butter white wine garlic sprinkle parsley and capers over linguine and it was delicious
Cool video bro. My kids favorite. I just think it's a bit of a pain to fillet because of the sliminess. I believe it's high in mercury so not to consume often. Gonna try your recipe. Only had it breaded and fried. Can't wait to see what's next! 🎣🙏🏼
hey bro, in Malaysia, stingray is so popular with grilled style cooking. very simple step, 1. stingray (with skin and bones). 2. banana leave as wrapper. 3. then put oil + sweet chili paste 4. lastly grill it on whatever. fire the best option. do catch and cook with it bro.. will be superb!
I have the same reel. It didn't the same thing to me because I didn't put tape on the spool where the knot is. Pour water onto the spool next time it slips like that and you might get lucky like I did. Was a able to use it the whole day until I was able to let all the line out
I am studying philosophy now and staying in this moment is key. If I try something new (very brave) I want all that experience. Comparisons reflect on the past or worse, someone else’s experience. Thanks for the lesson.
to me bat rays taste like rock crab. caught a couple of rock crabs and had some blind taste testers taste both the crabs and the ray, everyone said they taste pretty similar
Awesome video! The last scene where you were tasting the ray, it looked really cool how the camera was, in a way, following your face. Was it someone behind the camera or an FX in post-production? Either way, I enjoyed it very much!
Mimi and I enjoyed this video, we’ve caught ray but never tried it. Weird looking meat! Looking forward to your vids in 2021. Definitely get some merch going!
The texture of the meat on the other side where you can see so may vertical lines, somehow that looks or reminds me of crocodile's tail 🤦🏻♂️ But I bet that taste really good tho, I've only had Ray few times in my life.. maybe I should try them again 👍🏼
I grew up in Florida, and the rumor we always heard was that at half the seafood restaurants when you ordered scallops they were actually serving you stingray. Don't know if it was true or not, but the taste must be very similar.
Daniel, your editing work is always amazing. At the end, while you're eating, are you using some sort of filter or effect in your editing software to follow your face and make subtle camera movements? It makes it feel like another person is holding the camera, but also still feels like the camera is on a tripod. Either way, it looks really well done! And great cooking job! That looked delicious. :)
@@edwinyoon you are right, i saw the lever drag and assumed it is a raptor because that is how they look but the g2 copied that look but all raptors are 2 speed and this one is definitely a single speed. no 2 speed selector button. that sucks such a new reel already failed. I am curious to see how it failed.
Bro, here locally in the Seychelles this is delicacy. We cook it in fresh grated coconut milk and curry power. Nicely done bro.
I freaking love coconut curry with seafood, so delicious!

Good warmup for that Dino!!!!😎
One of my fav stingray dish is sambal stingray. It’s chilli paste with stingray meat wrapped in banana leaf, and cook it over the coals
That indonesian style? Jarang ditempat gw yg jual Ray..
@@angcil88 it’s really popular in Singapore & malaysia :)
Man, that looked so flippin delicious! Nice job! Always great content.
Rodrigo the man handling the line like a boss! Lol
When you were pulling in the big ray, one of the guys said "I can already taste it! " ahahahahaha

Nice!

A last resort and just had to make it work with what we had!
Always excited to watch your videos!😁

Yup that was us! I think we heard you guys screaming from the distance. Glad y'all had a decent bite at least!

Rays are great An easy way is to boil chunks in sprite and dip in butter 😋
buena pesca del pez Mantarraya
You can eat liver from Ray it's so tasty but u need chilli or lime
Good stuff Daniel. Guy is crazy handlining a batray. Agreed though, they don't taste bad! just trickier to filet haha
Brown butter capers white wine
U should Stirfry with ginger and jalapeño
Some people love it and some people hate it. I like the taste and texture personally.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing! I'd try that.

You broke the AVET? Did you ever figure out what broke in it?
hey bro, in Malaysia, stingray is so popular with grilled style cooking.

Nice catches! Those Rays fight well!
How rad. I’ve always wondered what that taste like thanks man
Looks delicious!!👍

Thanks for the lesson.
to me bat rays taste like rock crab. caught a couple of rock crabs and had some blind taste testers taste both the crabs and the ray, everyone said they taste pretty similar
That's an interesting comparison. I could see the similarities!
Tell us how you cooked the other piece of the ray?
S/o to you for hanging out with my paisas ! Every latino group needs an asian 😂
Yu guys havin sum fun on da boat aint'cha na
Crank up, reel down, crank up, reel down
Dig it Dan!
I'm keen to try something similar with the rays we get around these parts!
Cheers for the inspiration!
If you bleed them and take a new sos Brillo pad to the skin it will knock off the dark color off and we just deep fry it
if you didn't spool the braid tight enough onto the reel the type of "slippage" can happen
finally
Nice catch D .💪
Definitely keeping my next bat ray.
another great video Dude!!!
Dope.video. I actually went yesterday day to alameda and caught a 20lb ray put up a good fight.
Had ray once in a Spanish restaurant, the tip of the wing and the taste was great but to many “bones” 🤣
Awesome video! The last scene where you were tasting the ray, it looked really cool how the camera was, in a way, following your face. Was it someone behind the camera or an FX in post-production? Either way, I enjoyed it very much!
An ABU Garcia 6500 wouldn't fail like that generic reel you were using.
Nice stuff man enjoyed this alot. Keep it up you got the bug.
Good luck sweety, love watching you out in the kayak and fishing. Hope 2021 is the best utube year you've ever had... Ok.. 🦂🦀🐙🦐🦞🐡🐠🐟🦈🐳
They make some very tasty Ceviche....
I enjoy your channel bro been subbed a long time.
i love these guys... best brothers on youtube
Cool video man, the homies were a trip
I’ll still eat scallops instead my friend lol cool video bro. What reel did you break?
Same bud. Def like scallops more but the ray just had a scallop-like taste. The reel was an avet mxj g2
Mimi and I enjoyed this video, we’ve caught ray but never tried it. Weird looking meat! Looking forward to your vids in 2021. Definitely get some merch going!
If it truly is anything like scallops then next time I'm back in the bay area i'll have to wet a line. Keep up the content Daniel.
Pour scalding water on slimy fish and wipe with a towel and the slime will be gone.
skills n knowledge!
Listening to the Mexican guys is hilarious 😂
Will you consider or continue to keep some bat rays in the future?
Wow, nice! Where was this? In the Philippines we cook it with coconut juice. 'grats!
Had Ray in Singapore. it's almost flavorless. That's why they dress it with a lot of sauce or diff flavors.
Looks close to the dumbarton bridge
That was WAY COOL D!!
Right on Zee!
awesome man
YESSSS! "Want more D?" T shirts lol 💖✌️😁
That second reel needed some wd-40 or some kind of lube on the gears lol
I want try it looks so good

But I bet that taste really good tho, I've only had Ray few times in my life.. maybe I should try them again 👍🏼
I caught sting ray at oyster point pier and took one home. They are pretty slimy for sure and hard to clean but its a good tasting fish.
How did you prepare it?
@@fishingdonut1278 same as Philosophy D.
Take a sos pad and scrub it and the slim will come off also salt and lemon does help
👍👍

So bad ass the hand fishing. He knows his sshit.
Love your videos don't know why you have less subs than your buddy over at fisherman's life
he workin on it
Hella undereated
Once u cooked it it looked like ground turkey meat! Haha. Could have made some pasta with it 😝! Nice catch bro!
What the location your fishing at?
thats dope!! 🔥🔥
That looks like Mag Bay
It's been a while since I've eaten ray but it's good eating
I was thinking of letting them go, not now....
I loved this one D I would like to meet the guys that went with you. I was lmao órale primo.
Next time put a towel under the wing so it’s not sliding every where while you try and cut it.
Where’s this at
The people that said it had after taste was probably because too much blood in the meat. Nice catches!!
s I love it smoked In a nice spicy Surachet and soy sauce But the soy sauce has to be shushi Kikkoman the blue label

Wait... haha that's cool
That looks good for some crab cakes
There's one video, that you talk like the youtuber called fisherman life 🤣
maybe try boiling it first then fry it with margerine, celery, green olive. and put it in a tortilla
what happened to your avet raptor reel? did you have Alan Tani look at it yet?
Def not a raptor. It’s a single speed, most likely an avet mxj G2.
@@edwinyoon you are right, i saw the lever drag and assumed it is a raptor because that is how they look but the g2 copied that look but all raptors are 2 speed and this one is definitely a single speed. no 2 speed selector button. that sucks such a new reel already failed. What reel failed on you?
Avet MXJ G2
@@philosophyd Wow, surprised an Avet failed. Did you send it in for repair?
So dope man !! Looked so good too 💪
Didn’t even know u could eat a bat ray...glad it tasted good and didn’t end up as a waste!
7:26
Wow it's reeling off drag.
Ray is best grilled, then served with sambal sauce and some Asian lime.
