How to prepare for Windows 7 End of Life? In this video, we will take a look at what your options are after Windows 7 Support ends on January 14th 2020. So will my PC stop working after this date? NO..but your PC will become more vulnerable to Malware, Ransomware and Hackers without regular security windows updates and security patches.
Option 1
Use extended security updates option offered by Microsoft or Unplugged Internet
Microsoft will stop providing security updates for Windows 7 on January 14, 2020 unless you use there extended security updates option.
* The first year will cost $50 per device.
* The second year will cost $100 per device.
* The third year will cost $200 per device.
These costs set out by Microsoft are absolute madness, but it is a lifeline with a added three more years of extended security updates given to businesses with idea that it will help them upgrade old hardware and software. Companies have the options to unplugged the internet and continue to use Windows 7 safely, but some computers may need internet, so this might not be a option for everyone.
Option 2
Upgrade or Replace your old Windows 7 PC
This is not as easy as it sounds for a business. The cost to upgrade every computer is a expensive thing to do. companies will have no choice but to upgrade there old ageing hardware and software to Windows 10 at some point. They could extend for another 3 years, but that would cost more than the upgrade itself in the long run. Buy new computers is also not as easy as it seems, with some old software which company's use, might not be compatible with Windows 10 and the software and licencing can be very expensive to upgrade for small businesses.
Option 3
Install Linux?
Its not as hard as people make out and could be a option for home users, but for businesses? I am not so sure. For a company to rollout to Linux would by a nightmare, they would have to have a learning program put in place for there users, the software they use might not be compatible with Linux. So unless companies are will to convert to Linux fully, I am not sure its a viable option for a business to install Linux. Some companies will have software that they must use and users will be trained and skilled in that software, so to install Linux and retrain all the staff on new software would be a nightmare. Maybe some small business might be OK with Linux if they don't need certain software support like Adobe etc
Windows 7 support will end on January 14, 2020

I still have Windows 7 and that is the only thing I use.
Im still usi9ng xp and this dude think i should switch to 10 what a joke~!
@@johnnydee6340 idk I am still using win 7 though. It is slow but it works. I have like the most updated and recent version of it.
MikolajBlox YT YES...
It's a ticking time bomb. There will be an exploit for Windows 7 eventually that Microsoft won't patch.
You'll be at risk of losing data or being spied on.
You're likely fine for another month to 6 months, but after I would not recommend using it. From now on Windows 7 is low hanging fruit for hackers, so you should really stop using it (if you connect to the internet) as soon as possible.
Good luck
Love for all windows 7 users
@@dillonbradburry8240 You are so right, and I agree.
Thanks!!

@@CristianBogdan1 but windows 10 will not install on older computers
if extended support exists. then the patches are being made . just have to find a way to get hold of them
That's what I thought about XP, but as it turns out nobody pirates this stuff.
Some clever people already made the BypassESU utility, which allows installing ESU patches without being a part of ESU programme.
Lol. Good luck with that.
I don't do windoz. Quit it over ten years ago and started using Ubuntu, Mint, MX, and others. Linux is great.
@XpertGamer that's everyone's excuse.
@XpertGamer that sucks, I'm a occasional gamer and play war thunder, world of tanks, DOD source, c.s. go etc on Linux. Only owning a computer for gaming is like only owning a house for the trampoline.
Been using W7 without updating literally foro years... I think will continúe doing the same
get back to me when you get hacked if you have not already and don't know it
same bro, pirated windows7 ultimate w/out updates & a pirated antivirus, still alive and kicking
@@gdawwg1125 Still no hacks after 3 years with no updates. I got hacked all the time when the updates was coming! I found the hacker. It was the updates!
@cafemartini lol
@@eatshitful Same here buddy. As soon as I started updates Windows kept getting issues for some reason. I don't know why. Figured out that I had to clean up my registry solved that "slowdown" syndrome. A feature windows should prompt you to do by itself. I had to google it.
"Vulnerable" is way over rated. We used Windows XP in the home office for online web work and shopping cart building right up to mid summer, never a single issue. Not one. I will leave my workshop laptop with Windows 7 until it doesn't work anymore.
BTW, I'm computer technician since 1995.
Same here. I've been still using Xp on one of my main computers haven't had a single issue. People are always fear mongering I'll keep on using Windows 7 until it stops working
Good for you. Your English sucks for such a smart "computer technician." People on the internet know how to install memory sticks in their PCs and think they're PC Techs.
So, you never want to upgrade your PC?
That's only because of XP's market share. 7's is MUCH larger, so more hackers will focus on it. Even safe websites you visit can be compromised and without security updates, your computer will be infected from compromised sites.
Quit using questionable sites then.
i think they really should provide regular updates until 2023 for free and for all because so many people still use windows 7 and its still modern in my opinion and was best version of windows
i never care much about update feature... i dont have paranoia.. delusional behavior. insane.
I used Windows 7 Ultimate from 2012 to 2018. Never once updated it, just one or two time my PC got infected with malware or adware, nothing i couldn't fix with a few minutes with free AV and OS tools. Even then it was my younger brother's fault installing crap on my PC. Don't get all the paranoia about updating. Updating software is an easy way to break something.
Windows 7 IS DEAD. What part of that statement fails to click?
@@aiden_macleod WRONG
Okay, when all the software you use fails to update because the developer has stopped support for Win 7/8 I guess you'll continue to use it, right? No more driver updates either. You buy a new piece of hardware and you just hope and pray that you can find older drivers because the company that made that hardware no longer, or never did support Windows 7.
It's a reality you'll have to face one day.
Before watching, I'm going to guess "all" three options.
1. Windows 10
2. Linux
3. Deal with it
👌3
Well.... If you come from a Windows only world, then it will be just as hard to switch to Linux, than it will be to switch to MacOS. By experience, I say that they are equally as good, only seperated by what your personal needs are. I think you need to add MacOS to that list as well..... And dont forget that there are Unix as well. And finally, there are actually AmigaOS if your computing needs are that of text editing only. Like if you are an author. And it can do light photo editing as well. Yup. Tons of options if you absolutely do not want Win10.
@@brostenen *cough cough* Linux Mint, Zorin OS, and Feren OS.
@@AngryDavid808 Whatever Linux that suits you the best personally, is the right Linux for you personally. For me, it is Linux Mate. And I am not going to say that it is better than any other Linux, because what works for me, does not work for everyone else in all cases. 🙂
@My Daily Side Yup. Tried that. Not for me though. Too cloud based for my taste. Unless we are talking phones. 😉
Sad times. I like Windows 7. I will ensure my data is backed up, and continue to use 7 until the programmes I use stop working. If I get a virus or other nasty, I'll reformat and repeat. No big deal. I own Windows 10 but I don't like it. So I will continue with 7 until I literally have no choice. FU Microsoft :(
Win10 is butt-ugly, and it interferes with my doing things how I want to. If I wanted a damned cellphone interface, I'd use a cellphone.
They got the interface right with XP; Win7 was just okay, but 8/10 are, by my lights, completely broken and unusable. Win10 finally got me to start migrating to linux. (PCLinuxOS-KDE desktop, rather more Windows-like than MX. Or PCLOS and Trinity if you want basically an XP clone.)
@@Reziac Don't be bitter. Join the new breed.
LOL... I think I'll join the renegade faction. :)
Win10 is pushing me to linux... If I am going to use some awkward unrecognizable new system I may as well move into the future of PCs.
1. I have disabled uodates years ago, a friend of mine has disabled it 8 years ago!
2. YOU CAN STILL GET UPDATES via a bypass
3. Ppl literally create fear and make ppl without much knowledge uograde to W10
4. W10 is Win7 under the hood but filled with bloadware and spyware. The update system in W10 is hilarious and you always have to redo your spy settings. Its hilarious!
5. Ever asked yourself why MS is giving away W10 for free? Do it, ask yoursef.
ps: Use Malwarebytes
Just 1 day left before Windows 7 Ends support. Just some information to those seeking advice on what to do.
Don't do anything just keep you virus checker and spyware uptodate and your good to go.
Windows 7 was my number 1 best OS in my opinion.
I'm still running win 7 and 10 duel boot to see the best security for 7 and see how vulnerable it can be with separate firewall and antivirus etc...

I honestly think that WINDOWS XP was the best one❗
Correct :)

Hell yeah
IMO, Windows 2000 was quite the bulletproof version.
I used to think that until I ran XP in a VM. WTF was I thinking?!?!?
RIP windows 7, i will take long to forget an operating system which is user friendly like windows 7.
why you fear virus so much you prefer 10 to protect your sorry ass LOL
It took just a couple of years with XP. I bet most people have moved on by 2022. And all this tiring bullcrap that people are saying about 7 today, was the exact same when XP ended.

Anti meme?
Despite the fact Windows 7 is no longer supported, i don't think you will be in danger if you know where you are on the internet. Any OS will be easily damaged by accessing shady sites and downloading software and files from non reliable sources, be it supported or not.

Hello. I am backing up windows 7 installs using NORTON GHOST, so that way I will have a kind of 2020 Factory Image which will keep me running forever, or as long as I want to risk it. I use Norton security anyway which should keep me clear of most viruses.
Question is, i have about ten windows 7 computers, they are all old dells, hp's 17 inch laptops, XW workstations, that i am loathe to replace.
I have so far Clean Reinstalled, Updated and GHOSTED 7 of them, Question is, Can I still get all the OLD UPDATES for a short while, or are they ALL going to be switched off today with a demand to pay money instead ? Or does this just apply to Security Updates for the future ?
From my understanding its completely off, the updates function will not work for anything, that means Zero Zilch Nada SOL. Now i do believe you can still get updates if your running the Server or Enterprise Edition but you have to pay for it plus you have to be a 'business' thats been working with microsoft for a while now with an already open account with them, if the business or institution is still paying for the licenses then they should still be getting updates, if it stops working for them they have recourse by calling customer service and complaining =)
Just because they are stopping support does not mean it will not work or explode. It mainly means no more dam annoying updates etc.

As a former Vista user, I would recommend Linux Mint Cinnamon instead of MX if your computer meets the requirements as it very easy for past Windows user to get familiar with.
Yes, and also people switching to Puppy Linux also find it easy. In either case it takes about an hour to make the transition to being able to watch videos and do emails etc on Linux.
I don't know much about computers, mine is to old to run windows 10 properly but you're the first person to make linux look good and not a absolute nightmare. Thank you from Nova Scotia ,Canada.
Give MX Linux a try!
@Britec09. Quick question? After upgrading to windows 10 Pro from windows 7 pro. Every time I reboot my Hp Elitebook 8460p laptop, it will not auto connect to my Wi Fi. I have to connect manually every time after a restart. Do you are anyone no why this happens? Thanks.
Maybe it needs a different driver? Maybe a newer wifi card model? Maybe a fresh install of Windows 10? maybe the wifi keyboard switch needs to be turned on? maybe something in the bios? =)
People don't panic nothing happens ok and your computer will run just as wonderful as it always has. Get out of hyper-mode take a deep breath just make sure you keep your virus checker and spyware up to date. I have not done any updates on some of my windows 7 computers for years they work great. Nothing happens ok! UPDATE: OMG I got up and turned on my computer 1/14/20 and it works and it actually feels faster...LOL
The performance increase is quite nice from 7 to 10. If your worried about security you should be running Linux anyway bud. I think antivirus apps will stop supporting 7 as the os becomes more outdated. Bottom line if you want to run Windows 7 be my guest but when stuff starts breaking just make sure you have data backed up
🙂 correct, thats what i do, thats what alot of people do, including businesses, just ignore the haters, i dont understand why they care so much
@@WhiteError37 yes it I have windows 10 also but for some its not an easy upgrade or they dont want to spend $130.00 on there old computer. I just hate it when we start freaking people out with all the fake accusations that there windows 7 is somehow instantly no good and there bank account are all susceptible to hackers no it all total BS.
AVs can't save you from System Deep exploits.
I have not updated my windows 7 Pro for the past 18 months i develop sites, i do all kinds - i use Malwarebytes, and use my judgement as to which sites i visit-my Pc functions beautifully, this is an overblown threat, it is based on commercial hype.
Hello, "Britec09!;
Thank you for all you do.
Really glad to see you're promoting MX Linux for the Win 7 EOL solution.
Already installed MX 19 on 2 different boxes, 1 old & 1 older.
It really does run faster on my boxes than Windoz.
I've tried to upgrade to Windows 10 many times but it so far it always fails.
I'll try again but I don't think it'll work.
Have a GREAT day, Neighbor!
I have an old netbook that has Windows 7 and I can't upgrade it unless I go with Linux. I have been running Norton 360 on it cause I run that on all my computers and it has never gotten any malware or viruses attacks so far. I don't use it a lot though. Wouldn't the virus protection be enough to protect it especially if you have a good one?
I am NOT switching to Windows 10...just ain't gonna happen!! OK now that I have bad grammar out of the way....I refuse to switch to Windows 10, and instead I am going to Linux!! I recently (past couple of years now) been working with Ubuntu Studio and found that to be a "good jumping off point"! It is easy to work with, simple to understand, and works on the hardware I own!! And keep in mind I own seven computers, ONE machine is still on Windows XP that I use for editing photos and creating webpages on, two other machines I have already decided will REMAIN on Windows 7 as one is my video edit rig, and the other is an old Laptop that I still use for "remote tasks" like watching movies while I camp and music and such.. basically a media player for "on the go"! My own rig is actually my home media server and that machine already runs FREENAS on it!! So no worries there!! leaving my last three machines which two of those are already on Ubuntu and the third one is going Linux this week!!
So I have it all figured out I guess!! I am just so feed up with Windows it isn't funny, and check back in a year from now, as I am certain by the time I get around to it.....I will probably be running Linux Mint on a new machine I plan (and hope) to build come before years end!!
downgrade to xp and laugh at microsoft.. you can get free iso too.. just google it. windows xp iso.
LOL
How do you contact Microsoft and pay the $50.00? This works only for businesses. What is the replacement for item #1? thanks
It only works for businesses and institutions that already have an open account with microsoft, these are the people that have been paying their yearly and monthly licensing fees for years, so they still get supported because they are still active customers =)
So, I went to the MS Download Win 10 site, and ran the tool to create installation media on a USB drive.
It took awhile for the tool to download and update all the components. You have two options to upgrade to 10, boot from the USB, and do a clean install, or run the Setup from an admin account in Win 7.
I decided to try it on an older HP laptop, almost 10 years old. The setup program took about 3-4 hours to run, but it was totally automated, and I only had to interact with it at the very end to setup Win 10 on the pc. The old PC seems to run OK, some programs that were not compatible were not migrated, and it actually seems to run some apps better. Not bad for a free upgrade.
But if you use Avast, Spybor S&D and Malware Bytes then your computer should be perfectly safe on the internet?
is it true that even when java doesnt run and the display adapter is microsoft basic, i can just check a box to allow programs?
So if you had to choose. Which would be your best windows operating system ever? I have 3, but no 1st 2nd or 3rd place. All great.
Windows 98 2nd edition
Windows XP
Windows 7
Agree/disagree?? I think i got them in order too ;)
Windows XP. Didn't look as good as Seven. But XP was more minimal and didn't get in your way.
7 and 7 then 7 =)
I'm really surprised that XP still has a higher userbase than Linux. But while LTS for Windows 7 matched the time that XP had LTS for, in my mind 7 was better than XP mainly because of backward compatibility support (not including lack of 16bit app support on the x64 version of 7) was way better than Vista, and being security conscious I enjoyed 7's iteration of UAC over Vista and I ramped that sucker up to maximum which I currently do in 10.
But today with how Microsoft keeps managing to break Win10 with it's latest big update, I'm doing down the route of dual-booting my PC with Ubuntu and Win10. Any games that I can't play in Ubuntu I'll spark up Win10 for that, but I'm just fed up now with Microsoft so I'm jumping over to Team Penguin for the majority of my computing needs.
Don't blame you.
🙂 its nostalgic, u see this with operating systems, software, video games, hardware, its normal, people being people
I disagree. windows XP was way better than windows 7 in almost every way.
Xp just work better. i been using xp for most of my life and i use 7 occasionally just to compare and it isnt much better. it similar. in performance and xp is more compatible for xp software.
I just got done making my system a triple boot. I have XP, win7, and I just installed Linux Mint on this drive. Everything is on one hard drive. So I have the best of all worlds.
Can someone help me with upgrading from 7 to 8.1? The upgrade assistant keeps saying theres no internet connection when i press next
I'd been some what partial to Linux Mint But MX Is Nice Man;Very Nice...Thanks So Much For informing Me!!!!

I love how Microsoft creates a buggy OS that will need updates for eternity and then at one point they charge you extra money to update their flaws so being more of a crook than that is pretty hard.
Updates arent just fixes, theyre, shock horror, "updates". An OS in never complete, so anyone trying to develop a "real" OS will always update. Linux is constantly updated, Mac OS is constantly updated, etc, etc.
Software and computers change and evolve constantly. Thats half the point or more of updates; to keep up with the times.
They are worse than crooks, under the current form of government corporations and politicians can steal our country blind and there is nothing legal we can do about it, remember 1776?
Thanks Brian. Another great Upload.
Another great tutorial Sir.. you speak of a virtual machine often. Does this mean the version you installed on your usb drive? So that when you are done using Linux simply pull the usb and reset the bios to open the main win. Drive or whatever it points to that you want to stat-up? Being back to Windows? Thank You for sharing some of your knowledge with this old newbie. And others of course.
No, a virtual machine, such as virtualbox, creates a virtual OS that remains in your main operating system; you can go back into the virtual machine at any time without any need for a usb.
Musical Neptunian Thank You for your Clarification.. who knew?? Not I.....
@@joexg50 A virtual machine is a great way of trying out an OS. You just get Virtualbox, find where your ISO file is for the OS, then run the virtual OS. It is easy, safe and if you don't liek the OS you just wipe the virtual machine taht you created without in any way changing your main host system! p.s what you were describing earlier with the usb was called "running a live disk/USB". you can do that but it is slower and you can't save any of what you have done,

I Been using W7 without updating literally foro years. Only the necessary stuff to run games + Photo and vidéo editor , Microsoft Office And it is very easy to avoid problems

As much as I loved Win7, I eventually upgraded to windows 10 via free upgrade (way back when) and it was a pain to get used to but once I optimized all the settings and whatnot it was finally usable. I know it sucks guys. But if you're patient enough and know how to optimize your PC it'll be ok.
Hi there does Linux have security updates? I'm going to try to take the leap of faith also can i install Linux on my surface Pro with windows NT?
Linux systems generally patch whatever comes to light as seriously problematic as quickly as possible. Safety depends on that (which is pretty reliable, certainly) and the lack of targeting Linux tends to get compared to Windows.
What are your thoughts on following your Linux install idea, and then setting up VirtualBox and installing Windows as a Virtual Machine for users who have those 4-5 essential programs that only run on Windows. (for example, software to prepare government tax returns). How viable are "long-term" Windows Virtual Machine installations on a Linux system?
That is quite viable provided your machine can handle running a Windows VM as you are running an entire Windows install as a program at this point, and possibly for a moot point, there isn't really much software for Windows that Linux distributions don't have alternatives for (Photoshop > Gimp, MS Office > LibreOffice) your biggest hit in software is certain game devs that don't release their games on Steam (Steam having Proton now) or port their games to Linux. As far as usability for Linux itself is concerned you have many options if you desperately want to mimic the Windows 7 look, MX Linux wasn't a good recommendation in this regard, in fact the fact that it asks for users to set a Root password is dangerous for new users, Linux Mint or Ubuntu Mate are good options, Mate in particular has a button to switch to a Mac OS feel for anyone switching from that too.
Hey Buddy, How much an antivirus can save me from it if I use windows 7 after 14 jan???
Windows 7 support ends tomorrow on January 14th 2020. I will continue to use Windows 7 despite that Microsoft is all set to end support tomorrow at midnight. The good news is that Microsoft promised his Windows 7 customers that Microsoft Edge will be available for download for Windows 7 on the 15th January 2020, and this new Edge Chromium browser will be frequently updated as promised by Microsoft, despite that the Windows 7 support has ended. Windows 7 users using Edge will get frequent updates and security patches, so old timers still using an outdated and unsupported operating system will still manage to get some kind of browser support and online protection from viruses and other threats.
Here Im using Firefox and Brave and EsetNOD, funny thing is i never have ever used the updates function in 7, after i do a fresh install of windows 7 the only thing i add is the Service Pack 1, but thats it, i then go to service, disable updates, reboot =)
Great Video! I have a question! I currently have a 2013 gaming PC that has 2 hard drives, both with an installed WIN7 os on it....When I turn on the machine I have the option of both Win7 versions to boot into (one of them is a just for gaming) I was wondering can I still upgrade the Gaming Hard Drive to win10 without losing the option to boot into my hard drive with Win7 on it?
🙂 i would disconnect the windows 7 drive while upgrading, otherwise it mite blow out the boot partition on it
@@MrSamadolfo Ah ok that should be easy enough! That would be devasting if I lost that other partition, I really need it bad! Would u be sure it would still give me option to boot back into it once its reconnected?
@@TheBestbackingtracks 🤔 depends, how are you dual booting, are you using the bios to pick ur boot drive, or a software program like EASYBCD thats on one of the hard drives?
@@MrSamadolfo Ah yeah, basically when I switch on the machine it goes to black screen and white text and gives me the option of both versions, I didnt use any special software. Does that help?
@@TheBestbackingtracks yes, then thats like EasyBCD, just disconnect the hard drive you want to protect, install the Operating System to the hard drive thats still connected but first backup that drive just incase you messup, install and reboot, use it for a while update everything, once everything checks out and it seems rock stable then turn off pc reconnect the other hard drive and reboot, make sure the new os can see the other hard drive, you can then download and install EasyBCD or some other boot manager that you like, reboot and you should then see the boot manager screen again =)

All OS are vulnerable to cyber attacks and as far as OS being obsolete that is up to the user to decide. People actually still prefer it over Windows 8 and 8.1
DOS 3.1 was quite secure against cyber attacks.
Linux can be very robust. This is part of why servers and super computers etc generally use Linux. It also happens to be easier to learn than Win10.
Support for Windows 7 ended for me when I got a Ryzen CPU 3 years ago. I haven't had any security problems.I suspect the main thing you need is good malware protection.
I got a Win 10 Pro laptop last Christmas. It's great for my needs.
I have an 8 year old ThinkPad e530 that was "replaced" by the Win 10 Pro laptop. The e530 was among the last of the Win 7 machines with an HDD. I upgraded to a Inland (MicroCenter) SSD and installed Linux Mint Cinnamon on The e530.
Mint Cinnamon looks like classic Windows and is familiar to those folks. The e530 quite snappy with the SSD and the lower system resources needed by Linux Cinnamon. It's nice that an old friend has a new lease on life and will be useful for a few more years.
MX Linux is another good choice.
If you install antivirus or internet security software do you need to do it twice? But I assume you will be using only MXLinux & not use Window7 so it will only be on the MXLinux correct?
@gilkesisking how come? The encryption feature in linux makes its secure? Does linux has a update patch or stuff like that?
@gilkesisking Thank you so much for explaining. Appreciate that. How do I choose which Linux to download? After downloading & I need help can I ask you? On another computer I hv Win 10 do you think its a good idea to download Linux & park the Win 10? Lol

Yes, as well as your peripheral hardware such as printers, scanners, specialized mice and keyboards. You may also have trouble with drivers for internal hardware. Linux has a 4% market share for a reason.
Hi Brian thanks for the info, it was good while it lasted, Windows 10 is much better now, thanks again Brian keep up the good work you are doing and of course thumbs up for you👍👍👍👍😊
Windows 10 is OK when it works lol
It’s ok, just get a high quality antivirus and moderate what you search up to be safe.
What if you don't connect to the internet in Win7 via a browser but only via Firefox running in a Linux machine running in VirtualBox... would you be safe ?

🙂 u can see if u like dual booting, use 7 casually for ur video games, but mostly use linux for web browsing. Another lazier method is use 7 more carefully, always update the web browser, use adblockers, use a good antivirus that has security features, have several hard backups of anything ireplaceable. Of course anything has its risks so whatever you do just try to be more careful 😇

I have the upgrade iso downloaded, my question is will my current serial allow me to upgrade for free?
If you have Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 it should.
I REALLY WISH THAT THE MICROSOFT WINDOWS 7 COULD STAYS BUT SOMETIMES THE VERY GOOD KINDS OF THE THINGS GOT TO GO.
Win7 was maintained for 10 years, this is a very long time in this world.
The problem is not the end of life of Win7, but the trash that is Win10....
@Enki Unnaki Not in production for work...
@Enki Unnaki I agree with you, at home you should be able to stay on Win7 if you are carefull.
I did the upgrade to windows 10 pro, which was good...however, because of not being compatible, my Avid editing software (an older version) won't load on it. I upgraded the spindle drive to a 1 TB SSD and the system is much faster. One of my other computers, which is newer, has always been running on Windows 10 Pro and does have a newer version of Avid, so that is fine...I just like having a backup editing system. Thanks for the great computer information videos, greatly appreciated!
Wanted to come away from Windows & tried Linux Mint but I can't get any software that I use in windows. Tried wine to run my windows apps but alas they didn't run.
Personally to me, XP will always bee the Best :P

Thank you Brian. I tried installing Linux Mint 19 on my old laptop that was running Vista. It installed okay but I was never able to make the wifi work. Initially, I connected to the Internet with an ethernet cable to download needed drivers. Still no wifi available. I couldn't use Linux without wifi and thus installed Windows 10 Home 32-bit. That works okay with exception of the graphics card, nvidia 6150. Win10 loaded a generic driver which works but limits the available resolution. so, that's where I'm at for now. No previous experience with Linux, so thought that I would give it a go, but without wifi, I can't use it.

You can buy a mini wifi USB dongle for under $10 that will work with Linux... should just work. No driver install required.
Microsoft also doesn't support Windows Movie Maker 2012 anymore but I still got a copy from a third party and it works fine. It's a nice little program that is simpler than a number of movie software I have on my computer which incidentally is a Windows 10 since Best Buy no longer had a Windows 7 computer.

I’m having lots of problems after updating windows 10. I had windows 10 but the automatic update said that the version I had was at “end of life” after updating two pc they were rendered useless. One keeps freezing all drivers problems and the other I went to install Linux instead. Windows update it’s like Boeing update it will crash.

Held off going to Windows 10 till 6 months ago.
Kicking myself in the butt for not doing it sooner, very pleased with Win10
Its not a bad OS, just lots of bugs.
I don't needs Windows 7 updates. Have disable the auto updates for years already. It slows down the computer especially when opening and closing windows. And am very happy with Windows 7 minus the updates. Almost all applications support Windows 7. Some microcontroller application did not support Windows 10.
I went from Win7 to Win10 for free when it first came out, one of the earliest versions. Win 10 sucked then, had alot of issues and bugs for a long time. But nowadays it has been patched up and works really well, it runs really smooth.
After a lot of thinking I went for Win 10 (finally). Did the free update yesterday. It took a long time to finish, BUT, for a change everything went as it should. After first boot up in W10 I could start any game installed prior to W10. They all worked fine, some even better. The only things I had to update where my GPU driver and Sound driver.
So when you have a registered version of W7? And you wish to upgrade to W10, be quick and do it. It's freakin' free !!!! Make sure to select "keep data and apps" option when the install app is executed. That way you keep all your stuff and ready to use.

If you are not tech-savvy Windows is better because everything works well.
There is a lot of software that doesn't run, or run well, on Linux.
If you are not tech-savvy and Linux goes wrong, (and it does go wrong), you are screwed.
The online support for Linux is awful.
Linux sites can be arrogant and unfriendly to beginners.
Please lets stop with the "Just use Linux" recommendations. I use Ubuntu 16.04 LTS on one machine, Widows 7 on another, and Windows 10 on a laptop.
Yes, Linux has its place but there just isn't enough software available for it for many needs. For example, I am an avid Short Wave listener and I use an SDRPlay model RSP1A Software Defined Radio for most listening. There are programs available for this on both Windows & Linux but the available Windows versions are vastly superior to their Linux counterparts and are also MUCH easier to install and configure. And the Windows versions are regularly updated whereas most of the Linux versions are spotty at best with updates.
And this is just one example. I myself am a software developer and I've never written a line of code for Linux because the vast majority use Windows. Linux is fine for the few, not for the many. Not yet. Maybe someday, maybe never.
Thinking about using Linux from time to time. But I am just too lazy to learn it. If it was more user friendly I would definately consider it though
Windows 7 war's the best Windows Ever!

Darth Grumpy XP was the best after sp3 I think. At first it sucked cause they took away alot of features of 2k but after the service packs it was a lot better since those features were restored.
I switched all of my 6 PC's over to Linux Lite about 5 years ago and never looked back. I recently switched to Peppermint OS Linux and have been very happy with that as well. Both are Ubuntu based Linux operating systems that require very little horse power and memory to work pretty well. Both are a good fit for an older laptop or desktop PC. Both boot up pretty quickly, and have served me very well over the years. I'll never go back to Windbloz. Here are links to both if you want to give them a try. Personally, I prefer the Peppermint OS, but both are good choices.

Yeh it's a bit of a bummer, XP & 7 were my favourite but I remember them saying a lot about windows XP, that they won't be giving updates anymore coz it ended in 2014, so they were saying?. As the saying goes!. But yeh sucks a fair bit?. The thing I find also really silly is the activation of windows 10 key is a tough one so I have herd from. Some people but I guess that's it?. Or well can't change the world from a big change?.

Just install a reliable Free Antivirus on your Windows 7 and you'll do just fine in the coming years. Mine for instance, I use AVG Free Antivirus which pretty much handles every kind of trojans, viruses, etc.
security holes arent always related to viruses and/or malware. Antivirus software doesnt address security, update apis, update assorted stacks, etc., etc.
@@beezle1976 AVG offers all around protection from Hackers, Privacy, Payments, Web, Email, etc. I don't see any need for upgrading my Windows 7 if I have complete protection from AVG. Most of these scary tactics from Microsoft is just marketing in my opinion.

ESUs are for Business customers of Microsoft so they can continue on Windows 7 and be supported if they have applications that need 7 to run. You may not be able to get an ESU as a regular customer, plus the cost for Windows 7 ESU support adds up and it doubles each year. Y1: $50, Y2: $100 Y3: $200 and so on per device.
Will upgrade windows 7 to 10 on a lap do you have video on it
Win 10 was fine until about December 2018 when some MS updates appeared to have screwed everything up, and couldn't be bothered to go through the hassle of reinstalling it.
I stuck to Win 7 for daily use and playing a game called World of Tanks.
A few days ago I reinstalled Win 10, and had problems with it.
First it wouldn't update as it said there was a problem and try try again later.
The I searched the internet and found an MS website where I could download all the updates which I did.
Then I found that although my primary monitor is my Dell 27" 2560 x 1440 G-Sync, the game would only appear briefly on my 2nd monitor, and just shut down to the task bar, and would not display on either screen.
The I made my 2nd monitor (Dell 24" 1920 x 1200) as the primary, loaded the game and it displayed on it OK.
I have never had this problem before since starting the game back in 2014, with W10, or W7 until now after reinstalling W10.
Apart from the game/monitor problems, it seems to work OK, but I continue to use W7, as I have a growing dislike of W10.
My PC is up to the task with an i7-6700K, 16GB DDR4 memory, EVGA GF GTX 980Ti, Corsair HX850i, two Samsung 950Pro Nvme M.2 256GB cards (in the motherboard slots), Samsung 850 Evo 250GB SSD, and an Intel 750 SSD Nvme 400GB drive to choose from..
I do have an install disc for Win 8 to 8.1, would that be worth installing as an alternative to Win 10 to boot up with?
🙂 yes i feel you but most people are on 10 because they want to fit in, they ignore anyone that has continued to have problems with 10, u will always be ignored, they think that ur making it up or ur a shill or ur dumb or something like that, look around the forums and find a windows 7 community to help you, theres a community for XP so there should be for 7 as well, yes i heard some people are using 8 as a stop gap, try 8 on a separate hard drive if its a desktop and dont forget to disable updates on 8, some of the microsoft 8 updates are shady to force u to use 10, some laptops have two drive bays too, good luck 😇
.
Which version of WIN-10 are you trying to install? ie: 1803, 1809, 1903, 1909? Sounds like you may have been on either 1809 or 1903, and somehow 1909 created your issues. If the games you are running worked OK on WIN-7, then go back to WIN-7. ALWAYS do a FULL IMAGE BACKUP before upgrading any version of WINDOWS. That way going back is a breeze. Use Macrium Reflect FREE for imaging (the absolute BEST FREE imaging software available, PERIOD).
Windows 8.1 is supported till 2023. BUT it might not support some newer hardware.

A bit late, but thanks again for the reply.
I thought the life of 8.1 was quite long.
Win 7 gives me pop ups about some USB device it doesn't recognise, but lets me carry on anyway. I use a Logitech MX Master wireless mouse, which may be the cause, but has latest drivers.
Win 10 also gives me pop ups about a USB device not being recognised, and there is a short period when the mouse won't work, and then it does with no further hassle. It is just the annoying 30 seconds perhaps when I can't use it.
Anyway, I have used the MS Media Creation tool and a Samsung 64GB (the only one not in use) to download Windows 10 again, and will try it out when I have the patience to go through the long winded installation again.
Many thanks for your welcome replies, and have also subscribed to your channel.......:)
Finally a happy ending....:)
I used the MS creation tool to try updating one of my Windows 7 SSD's to Windows 10 on my Intel 750 SSD Nvme 400GB drive, which failed, with a message about a second boot failed to migrate files, or something, and put everything back as Windows 7, which works just fine.
Second attempt, I used one of my Samsung M.2 950 Pro cards with Win 7 on it, and went through the longish process of updating that to Windows 10.
It worked, so now have a good working OS on that drive, and will now have to spend more time uninstalling all the crap (that allows me to), to knock it into shape........but it works....and now checking for MS updates, which also works and is busy downloading some updates....happy days...:)
In my opinion, the investment of time/money on learning linux could be less expensive than upgrading to windows 10/buying new machines, especially in the long run.
I wonder if windows 11 and windows 10 share the same code
I just did the free upgrade. It’s a goofy interface and slower in use. Also high amount of printer drivers will not work. And it can be difficult for none techs to make it work.
