I agree with this verse but think this was for a specific church in a specific community. Christian congregations should not turn a blind eye to those who engage in open, unrepentant sin. But We don’t know this man to judge whether or not he is “indulging” in sin. For all we know he could have be backsliding. That’s why u don’t judge someone’s heart especially if u don’t know them.
It is also interesting to me that the Apostle Paul says "you must not associate". Note that he does not say "you must hate or dislike". He uses these words because not associating and hating a person are two different things. We can disassociate with a person while still loving them. For example, if one of our family members is a drug addict, we send them away from us to rehab in order to get help. We don't keep them among us because it might seem like we are enabling their habit. They might also be a bad influence on the younger ones in the family who are still growing up. Therefore to help them get rid of the bad habit we send them away (disassociate) them from us. Not that we don't love them but that we want them to get clean.

I have a different outlook on this scripture. I believe by not “associating” with them God is saying ydon’t be associated with their sins, or whatever they are indulging in but it’s ok to still be their associate. I would not be where I am today if my saved friends wrote me off in my mess! I needed their words of wisdom, peace, love and direction. Jesus hung out with drunkards and tax collectors an impacted their lives bc He was anointed to do so,but He disassociated Himself from Pharisees and scribes and those who pretended to have it all together and looked down on others who may not have had it all together but did not front like they did either. I think we are all reading from the same bible. There are so many scriptures that instruct or guide us to correct a brother who is in sin. To list a few...Galatians 6:1, 1 Timothy 5:20 , James 5:19-20, Luke 17:3-4, Matthew 18:16. When you read you will see that God HAS instructed us to correct. This is not about homophobia ... the word homophobic means you are afraid of this . I will speak for myself and say that it takes courage to call out a person in sin (with love). IF that bother does not come out of that sin you have to sever ties with him as instructed by God. So my question is why do you say not to throw away the Word of God yet you do the same by saying that some scripture is not for us? FORBID! All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. GOD does not change! If he said it yesterday it is good today.
