A larger wheel would make it look less awkward, but either way it’s a very interesting concept. The more competiton, the better outcome for the consumer!
Yeah was thinking the same, the smaller rim makes the middle section stand out
Or they can make the outer wheel itself modular and make attachments of various different wheel shape. That'd be cool
5NM is not so much, with a smaller wheel it feels stronger.
obviously the motor is weaker than other direct drives so they made the wheel diameter smaller to compensate
@@wrth it’s stronger than the t300 and Thrustmaster sells 13” diameter wheels that bolt right up to it. Cammus can use a bigger wheel.
Interesting! Really glad to see more affordable DD offerings and the newer approaches manufacturers are taking to make this happen.
I think this wheel would be perfect for simtrucking; almost 30 actions available at your fingertips, at least 1440* rotation & 5Nm which is probably about the same as trucks have nowadays with power steering.
If I had the money to get one, I totally would love to have it, it just seems like an almost perfect wheelbase for me, with the only downside being the flat-bottomed non-swappable rim. Also, if they want to go for Logitech in the entry-level market, they *need* to include a simple 3-pedal set with it as well, a wheelbase even this cheap is of no use if you have nothing else to control your virtual car with. One thing I would like to see them improve before a world-wide release if changing the wheel size from 28 to 30cm, as I find the former being a hair too small for most activities & a little bigger rim feels more natural
Understand y u would want a 30cm rim but almost all entry level wheels r 28cm (t150, g25, g29 etc) because that way they can transfer more force to the wheel itself, the benefits of a bigger wheel dont outweight the cons, in my opinion they need yo make the wheel rim round instead of a d shape so that it is truly useful for anything.
@@victormiguelmontero136 Truck sim'ers seem to be loyal to Logitech gear lol, plenty of people already use a big rim on those and lose a ton of FFB. Truck sim is less about FFB and more about just "immersion" meaning huge wheel and lots of rotations
@@noahlange5102 I agree im one of them, but that is a small part of sim community, most r into racing so force and details r way more important. I think they should make it so that the rim can detatch eithout taking apart the wheel i.e. putting a screw right where the rim meets the "wheelbase" so that it can be replaced for a formula style rim or a rally/drifting style rim which works for truck sims, but i doubt they would make that big of a change at this point same goes for the shifters who r smaller than my future and awkwardly near the motor/wheelbase.
A full direct drive wheel for less than I paid for my Thrustmaster SF1000 rim. Seems like an interesting piece of kit. Great first look.
kind of mind boggling when I think about it, its around the same I paid for the MOZA CS wheel. Kind of mind boggling, hoping the reviews from people who weren't sent review copies are good too, I'm getting tired of recommending the g920 to my friends who want to start getting some sim hardware thats budget friendly
@@amr1t_ Yeah always a tricky recommendation that one. I always mention the g920, but with the caveat that if they’re all willing to spend a little more, then the Thrustmaster T300 is a pretty good option. It’s what I used many years ago, when I made the jump from the Logitech Driving Force Pro.
Your Thrustmaster SF 1000 is a licenced 1/1 replica of the 2020 Ferrari F1 steering wheel, which you can place on almost any Thrustmaster base and includes a wi-fi router system to transfer your telemetry when playing on pc. When you get this Cammus your stuck with 1 wheel for the rest of the championship, still Cammus did some inventing renewing modelling over here and it will absolutely open the market for competitors which will be very interesting for the consumer.
If this is legit, and they can bring a DD wheel to the console market replacing the G29 it will be a game changer. I’ll give it a go.
Very cool! Thanks for the video. It's an interesting looking product, but I can't help but feel they completely missed the mark on those shift paddles. Hopefully some aftermarket stick-on or snap-on paddles with a larger area for your fingers appear on the market. But well done to Cammus overall; very innovative product.
i think for drifting its actually good that the shifters are small so they dont get in the way when you let go the wheel
@@SP.Spittlebug ok but then the wheel need to be completely round
I agree. I think the 3D printing community can make a larger 2 - piece paddle that sandwiches over the original pretty easily. Is there any chance you will be reviewing it?
i hope you get one to test!
Thanks for commenting! The paddles are hilariously small but actually felt nice to use, not overly loud and clicky…personal preferences aside I think they need to be bigger too, but all things considered its a very cool concept 😃
If they're trying to take on the g920 they also need to release a CHEAP 3 pedal set. I work with Arduino a lot... I know just how overpriced every single offering is. After opening my T3PA and converting it to USB with a loadcell myself with Arduino it's almost comical how much they skimp on parts and overcharge.
pedals are basically 3 potentiometers and whatever the cost of the material is (which for t3pa isn't much)
@@zwenkwiel816 Almost no pedals have potentiometers nowadays.
@@lukaskliment9646 t3pa does, as do the Logitech pedals. (think it's the most common solution for cheap pedals)
@@zwenkwiel816 Yes and nowadays those pedals are 10 years old.
@@lukaskliment9646 so? they're still some of the most used products on the market and anyone wanting to produce a cheap set of entry level pedals would look at them as an option for sure...
Looks ok for someone who wants entry level wheel without investing too much, nice to see a different style for the base
Saw this on Reddit a few weeks ago and have been curious about it ever since! I just built my first rig so I’ve been looking to the future. Great video, thanks for this and great work!
Got this for Christmas and I love it.
I'd reckon besides the improved settings they'll want to address the small quick shifters by providing some extensions (it's actually nice to have the option to keep them tiny and out of the way, or for the sake of those with big hands) . Also something to be said about having the ability to change wheels, and customise some settings
Hey there! I just watched your video about the Cammus C5 and I have to say, I'm blown away! The direct drive wheel technology is already impressive, but the fact that they've created a wheelbase within a wheel is truly innovative. Keep up the great work!!
Thanks for watching Matt 😁 and I agree the innovation will open the door to some interesting things in sim racing!
Cannot be happier to see new attempts at improving the wheel, giving the big shots something to think about. Not so sure how having the motor in the wheel make it less stress for the system to spin the wheel, though.
Cammus please, make the steering wheel diameter larger and the paddles in an "L" shape going around the motor and then sticking out further, it would be perfect!
Then ship it to Brazil, we need more affordable options down here!
Very interesting product! Great to see real innovation in cheaper simracing gear 👍🏼👍🏼
I just think it will be nice option if the display was configurable so you could see gear instead of speed if you wish.
I’ll feed this back!! 😊
Cammus coming out of nowhere with this thing. What a ridiculously cool piece of tech.
Looks great, excellent review!
Nice little wheel. Sub $300, 5Nm holding, light weight and direct drive. What's not to like? It truly makes any non direct drive wheelbase w/o the ability to change wheel rims, obselete. And it undercuts Moza and Fanatec by miles, in terms of cost.
I'd like to see it sitting a little further from the wheel plate/deck. On my GTOmega Apex, I am sure the wheel would be millimeters from the cross bar. And I would also like to see Cammus make a dash display for this wheel. Being so compact, the dash display would be in the same place a real dash display would sit.
Interesting. I wonder if any other MFG would make something similar?
Really good to see another company try and bring the price down. Although lacking pedals will push that price right back up above the other entry level options. Have they said what pedals it'll be compatible with?
thank you for sharing this video! been eyeing this wheel, going to try my luck first with the giveaway!
You’re welcome and GOOD LUCK 😊
Definitely something ill be watching to release
Wish them success. The more different options we have - the better!
Ever since I started 2 years ago, there are so many starter kits compared to then. I'm about to upgrade so i'm not going to use products like these, but I wished they where available when i started out. Really cool product, just like the other 5nm bases like moza and fanatec, logitec even with their 11nm wheel. Good time to start. People can start with DD right away, I like that a lot! Also lots of competition, I hope this forces other companies to come up with more and more gear. All in all a positive developement I would say.
This is it! Competition is good. Sim racing doesnt have to be a hobby only for people willing to shell out silly money on things!
if they figure out quick release wheels with this, it would go crazy for drifting
Eyes on the road buddy 😅but seriously thanks for this vid, wheel looks good actually and I am interested in purchasing it.
this could be a game changer! i hope the product gets popular as it looks fairly well made for the price and it would be a revolutionary competitor in the current market, allowing people to adapt older pedals to this wheel in order to make a good but cheap setup, since buyng a set of not so great pedals from fanatec for 150 bucks would make it more expensive and less than an upgrade compared to keeping the Logitech ones. To me it seems like an option for an upgarde rather than to get started, as the Fanatec CSL DD pack costs only 500 and it's probably got a better base
Interesting concept and the target price is the big suprice here haha!
Consoles need some affordable direct drive wheels. As a logitech G29 user this would be a nice step up 🤞🏻 this becomes compatible.
The best step up for you would be t300 gt but idk if its for comsoles
Ive had a T300 and this feels better 😅
That is a wicked good idea. I’d go for one as an upgrade to my g29.
A promisng start but those paddle shifters would be a deal breaker at that size. I'll be keeping an eye on their progress but I think they are going to need to do some refining and reworking before they actually come to market.
just glue some cardboard onto it and you're good, I did that to my old Xbox 360 Logitech steering wheel that had even smaller ones
@@meehdrescher I 3d printed some extenders for my g25, works like a charm
I'm very intrigued by this product. I have a G29 and while it's great for me atm, I do want to upgrade to a DD wheel at some point. This could be a great contender. I paid around $300 for my G29 new so if this comes in at sub $300, it's a no brainer. My only concern is I don't have a driving seat rig set up. I have the g29 connect to my desk with the clamps. Do you think they'll have a clamp system alternative? That could very well be the deal breaker for me and others.
Great vid. Would the display show the gears instead of speed?? Thanks
If you spun the wheel deck 180 degrees would it give your fingers more clearance between? Just a thought. Great videos.
Anyway you need the baseplate to fix it and let it pivot, so the overall encumbrance is in line with the existing smaller dd. Price wise can be interesting though.
that bad stitching stands out sooo much. for something that just came out, theres no reason the stitching should be coming undone
that is sick, awesome video
Can't wait for simracinggarage to take this thing apart, very interested in how it actually works cause i can't wrap my head around it :D.
This is awesome! I need this
the design is amazing !
I entered the giveaway and really interested in this wheel. My only hick up with these wheels is they don't really make them the real size of a steering wheel. Like they are typically smaller. So, why not make a life size wheel and then I do like the many buttons since many use these wheels for open worlds like ATS and AC and this will allow for customization with lights, blinkers etc...
hopefully it can be tabel mounted for those that dont have a wheel rig
i feel like extended shifters and also a way to get the wheel just a bit away from the base this thinhg would be awesome.
this is really super cool!
That short distance from the frame scares me. I would need it to be able to move further back for me to feel comfortable purchasing this, but it does seem worth it otherwise!
The Cammus C5 could compete with the G29 or G920 only if the pedals are included for a total price of
It would still be by far the best option even if it was 400-440,.the cheapest dd option rn, the moza r5 bundle (without clutch) is 580EU taxes excluded
Would you get this or the T300?
I am racing with my old g25 and the t300 on the second hand market its already quite some stretch for me that I race once a week, I would feel terrible if I get the t300 and then knowing this would actually make more sense...
I will still keep the g25 pedals and shifter if I inly get the wheel.
My main use its some open wheel races at AC and I would like to enjoy more some drift which its hard in the g25 since the wheel doesn't come back as the t300
I think that this would be a market changing product but if they could change the size of the centre "cylinder" idk how to call it but I think that if they made it smaller by 6 mm maybe even 4 mm they could squeeze in a bit larger paddles
i wonder if it will be possible to mod it to separate the motor from the wheel like i did with the logitech g25 and the fanatec csr to have a f1, rally and truck wheel option.
I think this is brilliant idea!
I hope we can have the PS5 version soon.
ok but i wonder if we need any specific pedals and, it would be awesome for the wheel to be on GT7
I thought my r9 was small, then I saw the r5... But this is crazy. Wow
genuinely the first exciting product in this market since... well, in a long, long while. at least 10 years
Gonna need an option for custom wheels fr I love the design but I'm really not tryna glue a wheel on top of it 😅
Hey TheCarDoc, what is the dimensions between holes at the mounting arms? Is it about 8cm? Thanks
A win for the low budget and entry sim racers!
outrunner style motor. very nice :)
Question from a sim newbie here, I've tried a g29 I think it was and had it desk mounted, there was a lot of vibration with that thing, as in you could hear it vibrating through the walls and downstairs, and I've stayed away from direct drive due to the price and I can't justify it as it's not something I would be using a lot. This does definitely seem promising so far, and for someone who would be mounting it to a desk, would you think this would cause a lot of vibration compared to a wheel like a g29?
No, mounted to a desk this wont vibrate! The G29 with its gear mechanism can be crunchy when used, whereas this is smooth as butter, and when table mounted would be pretty much silent 😊
Fire 🔥the person who designed the paddle shifters 💀
Very cool looking product for people entering the hobby. Even if your rig breaks this would be a good back up over a belt driven.
This is it! Its an evolution of the entry level market
Hi, 2 question: You said "for the price", how much is it? And does it look like the outside circular rim will be interchangeable in the future?
Its set to be $250 as far as I know, and as for pedals, you can use any pedals with them. Ive reached out to cammus to see if theyre considering creating a budget set just for this as I think it’ll be very helpful!
Good stuff thanks for the review someone in the comments asked about pedals could you give any info on this by any chance.
Cammus will be bundling this with pedals, price unconfirmed, but I’ve found this out recently :)
Thanks for commenting!
Looks nice!
How do the padel shifters feel?
Those shifters are holding it back
Great inovative design! Is it desk mountable? If someone has a proper sim rig I imagine they'd probably be keen to get somethinga bit better than this..The G29 comes with pedals so there's that too
It is desk mountable, should have mentioned that 😅
Just ordered one, with Pedals and Clamp £450 with shipping to UK.
Very interesting product for the price tag they aim to! Kind of weird looking wheel, personally I would have made a more octagonal shape with cut upper side plate, to resamble a real wheel. That circle is a bit meh 😅 Also the paddles so small, why in hell? I hope it will be possible to add a mod for them, if not aftermarket, at least made by Cammus, to make them bigger. The main concern and only one real concern, might be the distance of the narrow motor to the wheel holder. Imaging using a pair of gloves, and you can't even turn the wheel ehehe. I hope there's a way to fix the distance for the final version of the wheel. Sub 300$ it could be an instant buy!
What about the pedals? And shifter?
If it's competition to GT wheels, not any kind of sets can be used on ps4/5, like with pc's.
they only sent the steering wheel. no one knows if theyre gon be doing a bundle
This will be a game changer, if they throw in some pedals
They need to make a bigger wheel though since the g920 is 278 MM while the Cammus Wheel is 280 MM. I get its small to save money to get that sub 300 HOWEVER, it makes it really hard to drift and all of that stuff. Normall,y I would switch the wheel for a bigger one but since the wheel base is built in, can't really do that. Another disadvantage would be no quick release for different wheels like fanatec has or stuff like that, your kind of locked with only 1 wheel while with the g29 you can add a quick release on it to change out the wheels. Hopefully they come out with one with a base that could possibly reduce the price point further. :)
How do you think this would work with the upcoming Test Drive Unlimited SolarCrown?? Console compatible??
its a good idea but i sense without console compatibility i doubt see them taking the g920/29
if they can price it to compete with logitech while keeping more premium features like the shift lights, display, and CF front plate, this will be a VERY INTERESTING product to watch. That being said, I personally think it looks like an eyesore- obviously it doesn't matter since the main selling point is cheap DD tech, but a part of me cant get over that lol. I'm sure the design will change since it is a prototype though, so I cant fault them there
no way id comfortably use that for any proper racing, just looks like a finger guillotine. do love how much cheaper DD is getting tho, amazing to see one with revlights and speed display for cheaper than a g923. definitely think Cammus has a lot of potential in the sim space and we really really really need more good budget options that arent just the outdated Logitech rims or the plasticy Thrustmaster rims. cant wait to see more products from them.
Despite the distance between my fingers and the rig I’m yet to get them caught 😂
Competition is only a good thing and drives prices down hopefully! Sim racing gets too expensive imo and a good cheaper entry level wheel like this will force the other manufacturers to get innovating too!
If the wheel was bigger, farther away from the mount and had shift pedals, I would buy right now.
yo creo que este tipo de volantes va a ser un cambio, pero por ahora nos vamos a quedar con lo convencional, es decir , la base por un lado y el volante por otro. además de que la compatibilidad con juegos debe estar muy "en pañales"
Oh man, i just bought my thrustmaster :( but what nice wheel.
Good review, sounds promising. Hopefully they can improve the out of box settings. A suitable replacement for my ancient Logitech Driving Force GT unit! 🤦
Daaamn youre rocking a classic! Love it 😂
First thing I would do is trim down your vertical profile bars on the wheel mount to get them out of your FOV. Then move your monitors closer. #FOVPOLICE
I hope you can modify it as easily as the g29 to fit a full size wheel.. I doubt it tho
"They want to take on the creme de la creme of entry level wheels, the Logitech G29/920."
Logitech: Haha G29/920 go BRRRRRR
_(literally)_
great idea, they could sell alot of these almost instantly
i mean literally first week i noticed the g920 smelt like burning plastic in my room but don't get me wrong you can still drift and make it work but its difficult to use for the price point. this c5 would be perfect fit to replace.
very cool idea.
The UK warehouse on their own site and a 5% discount code had the price at £293.05 delivered to N.I.
🤞Should be here in 2 weeks
How’s the Cammus C5 performing for you? I’m considering buying but Reddit made me pause. Any problems with the paddles, USB connection or reliability in general? Thanks
Do you know when they are planning on releasing this to market?
Not sure yet but I believe it wont be much of a wait 😉
Nothing beat my Wii wheel.
This actually is perfect timing my G29 is ok but DD wheel make more sense
Hello, does anyone know if the wheel can be paired with Xbox or PS via devices like drive hub or brook ras1ution?
What’s your monitor size?
People with VR only racing rig, do not care about the looks. Probably the most impressive DD wheel for the price yet, at least on paper.
Very interesting innovation... but it lacks an entry level pedal set to go along in a bundle. Also cammus is lacking wheels offer, i love my 15nm base but i would like more choices of wheels
Interesting product, but I definitely think the wheel diameter needs to be at least 320mm. With that hub motor being so intrusive, it should be a priority to increase the amount of room your fingers have, especially with gloves.
I would personally need slightly bigger paddles
can this work on PS5 Gran turismo with an adapter or any other work around?
With an adapter called a "drivehub" yes. But out of the box it's PC only
its definitely a weird looking wheel, but I saw another review on it a few weeks ago and they said it grew on them. How is it against the moza r5?
I havent tried them back to back just yet, the moza pips it in the ergonomics department (paddles, wheel options) the ffb feels just as strong as the R5 but need to test back to back to see which has better detail :)
@@TheCarDoc1 it would possibly make for a great video
Great video.. looks smaller than the Logitech G29
Interesting concept liking it this far, 300 if with pedals I’d certainly check it out.
300 without ill be intrested
Unless they include a 3 pedal set or at the very least 2 pedals, they will never take over logitech as the entery point since players just getting in to the market won't want to have to shop around for pedals that cost twice as much as the wheel itself
Great video however if they just made it a little bigger so it wouldn't look like something from a "Chuck E Cheese arcade"
