Original ‘Roots’ Cast Members On New Miniseries | MSNBC
Nothing like the original Roots and Roots the Next Generation
SAY IT AGAIN !
sasilver1 the remake is by far better and more accurate
sasilver1 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
sasilver1 the next generation is very underrated
Kalvin Brown nooooo
Tamron was so polite and respectful. I love how she says Mr Amos and Ms Uggams
@ This was a family thing, there was nothing but love, you people don't understand that 👆🏾
John Amos is so cool. Dignified, strong, talented.
An incredible programme. I watched the original as a 9 year old and I still thought about it every so often. I’ve watched it again, very recently, understanding much more about the history. It still, after all these years, brought tears to my eyes. I think that they move through the generations so quickly adds to the terrible times. Kunta and Kizzy will stay with me!
They both look really great, thanks John Amos and the great Leslie Uggams for being apart of the making of a great history lesson.
Both Amos and Miss Uggams look great for their age!
I love Leslie Uggams and John Amos!
Lesli played kizzy?
@@davidpanzu yeah
@@davidpanzu yes
Much love to John Amos and Leslie Uggams..living legends both groundbreakers to all actors not just African American actors..the confidence and their state of being current is amazing..they didn't let Roots define their entire career but it played a major part..true trailblazers..God bless them both
JOHN AMOS AND LESLIE UGGAMS ARE SO WHOLESOME I LOVE THEM SO MUCH
They look really good!!! Kizzy is beautiful and glowing!!
" Roots " was watched all over the western world. When I was a kid, I have seen the original. When it was on the telly - the streets where empty, just like at an NFL finals day. Everybody and their dog wanted to know.... Impressive
Propaganda at its finest
Shes so right black don't crack. They look good
Speak that truth girll lol
I agree but I was also about to say something about "how could she say something like that on live TV??" Eons ago that would have been a serious NO NO!! But I forgot for a second that it's 2016. Anything goes and I mean anything. Why do we even still the use the term "rules and regulations?"
Amen! Beautiful people. Tamron Hall herself included. Leslie Uggams and John Amos are hardly recognized for being the true legends they are. Ms. Uggams was great in Deadpool too!
I remember us all watching it in Halifax, Nova Scotia on ABC out of Bangor, Maine back when I was nine. It was must-see television. Everybody watched it. Everybody talked about it. It was like being hit by a giant wave. Roots changed people. It changed a lot.
John Amos played an amazing part on Roots definitely my fav parts where Johns role in Part 3-5
Wow, they still look great! Black really don't crack.
Its Kunta and his daughter Kizzy
oh so sweet to see them! i loves the show back then i was 10 years old! bless them!
I remember as a child watching it UK tv it was big hit here too
yeah im in the UK and got the box set on DVD
Did white ppl get targeted for months after it aired too??
SNOOP, DOG, doesn't understand that wr the generation that grew up watching these movies are much better, character wise, and educationally wise.
"Hundreds and hundreds of years ago." No, more like 150 years ago, Snoop. My great grandmother's grandmother lived the end of that. 1965 was when the Civil Rights era was at it's strongest, and that was only 100 years after the end of slavery, 1865. We're only 50 years removed from the Civil Rights era, so when you look at it from that perspective, you see slavery has been legal longer than it's been abolished, haha. 150 years isn't long enough to change the effects or relevance of American slavery, Snoop Dogg. Sorry.
By my calculations in 2020, slavery actually existed 2 years longer than the UNITED STATES HAS BEEN A COUNTRY. 1619-1865 makes 246 years, and 1776-2020 makes 244 years. So the institution existed in what became the US for as long as the duration of the United States has existed today. This isn't counting the Africans that were taken to far older colonies in the Caribbean and South America who had been enslaved since the 1500s and could have been sold into the US.
@@Awakeningspirit20 Your math is incorrect subtract 2019 from 1619 it's 400 years of slavery, and our ppl are not Africans we're Hebrew Israelites God's choosen ppl the real Hebrew Israelite the original Jews the bible speak about. Deuteronomy 28:64,68
[64]And the LORD shall scatter thee among all people, from the one end of the earth even unto the other; and there thou shalt serve other gods, which neither thou nor thy fathers have known, even wood and stone.
[68]And the LORD shall bring thee into Egypt again with ships, by the way whereof I spake unto thee, Thou shalt see it no more again: and there ye shall be sold unto your remixes for bondmen and bondwomen, and no man shall buy you. Exodus 11:7
[7]But against any of the children of Israel shall not a dog move his tongue, against man or beast: that ye may know how that the LORD doth put a difference between the Egyptians and Israel. This is the truth that's been hidden from us for 400 years & now we're awake to who we are. Psalms 83:1-9
[1](A Song or Psalm of Asaph.) Keep not thou silence, O God: hold not thy peace, and be not still, O God.
[2]For, lo, thine enemies make a tumult: and they that hate thee have lifted up the head.
[3]They have taken crafty counsel against thy people, and consulted against thy hidden ones.
[4]They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.
[5]For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee:
[6]The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarenes;
[7]Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre;
[8]Assur also is joined with them: they have holpen the children of Lot. Selah.
[9]Do unto them as unto the Midianites; as to Sisera, as to Jabin, at the brook of Kison:
And Jews were being killed a lot less time ago than that. But u don't see cars of Jews running up on people and beating and mugging them cus of what their ancestors did.
How wonderful it is to see them, and what a class they have. I was young when the first Roots was on the tele, and I saw it in french. I remember the day after the show had air and the part when Toby was saying over and over ''mon nom est Kunta Kinte'' (my name is Kunta Kinte), and it was the big thing to say this at school the day after, and we were all white. I reassure you, we were saying this cause this part was impressive in the movie. I bought the DVD few years back, and watch it again with my adult eyes, I was surprise to find out that Kunta Kinte was also Muslim and of course was not aloud to practice his religion. So not only he was the '''wrong'' color, but the ''wrong'' religion. Not long after ''Roots'', was a movie about slavery ''A woman called Moses'', based on the life of Harriet Tubman, if you dont know this movie you've got to see it, what a fantastic woman.
I am white myself and eveytime I watch Roots 1977 I burst into tears. I also taught my dauthers teen to watch it and they also cried watching it.
I love anything that has something to do with our history and how we got here.
Amen sister 👏💯❤
I would like it too, if it wasn't designed specifically to raise racial tension and propagate hate.
We need this released free for all again both of them, we still need it💔✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾
so lovely
I just feel that watching a whole new generation of the movie isn't necessary. Just play the original like you been doing every Thanksgiving and Christmas
FACTS
Leslie Uggams has star trek ear rings .
Melanin poppin for sure. It's good to see great trail blazers still being great at what they do!
Powerful preformance from the past both powerful actors😢 x
John looking good
Both of them! 😉
You mean Mr McDowell!
James Evans Sr. :-)
+krillin876 "He's got his own money! And baby, when I tell you the boy has got his own money, I mean the boy has got his own MONEY!"
+Miss Sterling He'll always be James Evans, Sr.! Lol
I love watching Roots around Christmas time.
Yep it was a awesome show i think i was around 11 or 12 back then also james earl jones was amazing on it to.
I will never forget 🙏🏾💯
They showed it in the UK too
The original Roots cannot be touched, I was VERY disappointed with the remake, it was more focused on the violence and special effects, whereas the original focused more on the EMOTIONS and heart of the story, and as far as "the younger generation", that's BS, my 13yr old son and I watched the original Roots and he followed it just fine, the 1977 version was by far the BEST.
Yes me to I was disappointed s.m.h
I get both sides: the importance of telling the struggles and origins of black people, because by remembering the past we shall not repeat it and also the importance of not just portraying us as victims but our current reality and our strives and achievements. To show how we've overcome obstacles and moved on.
Who better than ourselves to tell our story? If people wanna see more than just stories about slavery of black people, then put your energy, time and MONEY to get those stories out there because by complaining we certainly are not gonna get nowhere.
Well Snoop Dogg has had money for years & never made a movie about positive black accomplishments...So he is just complaining...
Nane Smirnoff LMAO....ROTFL!!! Don't hold back!!! Seriously though, you are on point about Snoop Dogg...
+Kathleen Martin and it's sad 'cause I like Snoop but h is all talk.
Excellent - I love it!
The original was so powerful and had a fantastic cast. I wonder why a reboot was necessary.
It wasn't necessary but there was an agenda behind why it was made and why they changed it.
Thought Amos was OJ Simpson there for a second
Same too😂
Beautiful ❤
That was beautiful and we as people when we age we still look good!!! God is Always Good!!!!
The Roots was my greatest childhood educative movie.
Propaganda. It was designed specifically to raise racial tension. And it works. Obviously, here ur calling a declared work of fiction made to "enflame the hearts of black people" aka propagate hate over things ppl's father's father's father did.
She us still gorgeous!
Respect to Mr Burton's personal opinions, but no no no no no, Roots should not have had a remake attempt. I refuse to see this as a remake because Roots cannot be remade! The original TV series was superb, with much better actors and acting and passion and you can obviously see the difference in quality of performance and delivery, Roots the next generation and Queen, had superb casts too. I've got Roots and Queen the books and on DVD, so I in reference to Roots, I have both the 25th and 30th anniversary boxsets. Technically Roots cannot be remade, because it would have to be remade in it's whole entirety and obviously that would mean remaking Roots The Next Generation and Queen too.
what I hate about this movie is that they haven't even came to Gambia
I don't really care for remakes at all but people will do what they will do. But.....LOOOLL!! John Amos says he and Leslie Uggams' great aging is due to special FX. So timely! And with that slight twinkle in his handsome eyes to boot.
Without knowing your history you don't know where you're going.
I'm as white as they come and I see the importance of showing what slavery was as hard as it may be to see. Noone is depicting black people in these horrible situations because they enjoy to see them that way. This was reality and it is apart of American history. Everyone should know it. Every should be have this knowledge to better understand how we got here. Young black kids should know what their people have gone through for them to be free and young white kids should understand why they are privileged. It's all important
Kizzy was the blind lady in Deadpool.
we love you Kizzy
can history channel make a movie on the gullah wars
I was 11, and this made me so angry. I don't think I am ready for this again.
Snoop Dogg is a modern-day minstrual show
Part of me thinks they ought to reshoot the scenes with the older characters with the actors now that they are older. As good as Stan Winston was, it would be interesting to see.
I think they should reshoot it accurately. As in, Africans selling their own ppl to the Spanish, who then would bring them to the British isles for trading, and then eventually trickled down to the US. There wasn't any white guys able to outrun the Africans in their own land and snare that many up without them fighting back and winning. Guerilla warfare.
God bless you all
JAMES!!!😘😘😘😘😘😘😊
My favorite people
I am a big fan of ROOTS. I watched the Tv series many many times and I red the book many times as well. By the way...... I am white.
Love roots
Amos still looks good 2
The reboot SUCKED, they should have left it alone - The Original Roots Is The Best
yes
I don't blame you snoop I'm with you . I don't want to see it either. I'm sick of it. we still being abused . and so many don't even know it.
you need to watch it amazing movie see it as a positive and move forward in life every race needs too
Kdot prem I tried and all I did was cry, so I couldn't finish .
These updated mentally brainwashed slaves do not even realize that slavery never ended for real.
si può vedere tutta la serie in italiano?
the best film i ever seen KUNTA KINTE
this people made a film that will be in our hearts for ever I see the faces of Leslie Uggams and John Amos I feel nothing but respect and the only things that comes to my mind when I see Snoop Dogg face is drugs gangs jail thugs....listen you "no good for our society"Snoop Dogg shut up
Kizzy
I second that Good "Black Don't Crack" this is "FACTS" that's why Melanin is worth more than 🪙🥇"24kt GOLD".....!!! Shalom, Salaam my Hebrew Yisraelite Brother John Stamos andy Hebrew Yisraelite Sista Leslie Uggams of Zion. 💋💞💝😍🕎🥰💓💕👄
Slavery reveals our true identity! We're Not Africans! Read Deuteronomy 28:68 and it's telling you (us) that we are the chosen Israelites from the Bible from the Tribe of Yehudah (Judah). Also read Deuteronomy 28:15-68, and Acts 13:1
That host kept interrupting
I agree with what snoop said, f*%c the new roots. All of the Hidden Colors documentaries we melanoid Americans should subscribe to.
I recently watched the original series with my youngest son...I might watch the reboot...But truth as a black parent should introduce & teach all black history to their children through books, videos and cds....
I see a mispelled word in my comment. Please excuse...
Please dont teach your children that the world owes you something. Your life is what you make of it!
+Startrekmaniac - Do u really think that the playing field is equal....There are still towns down south (Mississippi & Louisiana) where even the military warns minorities not to travel...What about racial profiling....What about shooting of unarmed teens in broad daylight...What about the hanging of a black teenage boy at a religious summer camp in Ohio in 2016...I believe we are entitled to fair justice system & Caucasian murders shouldn't be walking free selling weapons they used to murder teenage boys...& I don't give a dam# if you don't agree....Worry about raising your own kids....
No bodies teaching their kids to be a victim or blame white people for their crummy life. If you tried to understand black history instead of knocking it making all blacks out to be lazy and victims. I work with a lot of good people white and black your just spilling hate. Because a black person wants to know their history doesnt make them a victim or teaching their kids to be victims. The things your are saying don't make sense. Think about what you are saying before you post you make yourself to be racist when you might not be I don't know. I don't generalize.
+Baltimore Jones Nice post...
why they never really told what happen to kizzy mother bell story like she just had kizzy thats her blood flood them to..ijs
True. they hardly spoke of her
The book goes on about Belle. Alex Haley focused on HIS side but could only tell so much in the movie.
IMJUSMEMONIQUE 113
you are truly a glutton to punishment. I was crying the whole series and to know what happened to KUNTA kinte and Belle would just break me down. much love 2 everyone😆
Lol love it
Rich Snoop Doggy Dog,.....iz RIGHT on this point!
Except I like the remake ov ROOTS!
Excellent performance!
HEBREWS our names were changed and the world knows their deceit. Deuteronomy 28:68 And the LORD shall bring thee into Egypt again with ships, by the way whereof I spake unto thee, Thou shalt see it no more again: and there ye shall be sold unto your enemies for bondmen and bondwomen, and no man shall buy you. And....Psalm 83:4 They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance. Genesis @ And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years. We started from Abraham, but our father is Jacob (Israel). Genesis 46:6-34 And they took their cattle, and their goods, which they had gotten in the land of Canaan, and came into Egypt, Jacob, and all his seed with him. HEBREWS what else do you need to know?!
The original as sad as it was is a masterpiece .... thank you all
Yes, it was, but the remake was highly problematic.
A fictional, specifically designed to raise racial tension movie that promotes hate.
Yah, masterpiece.
they used to be alittle bit dark, did they bleach?
What does she mean "not in our History books"
John Amos John Stamos
I just don't see the point of a remake.
As a 10 year old kid growing up in rural Ohio I had never even met a black person i only knew what I'd been taught about black people the stereotypical N..... and yes prejudice was a part of it but after the first night of Roots my perspective began to change I since have found out through ancestry and DNA. Com that I have some black heritage as well this show changed me and I'm sure a lot of others around the U S and the world I only hope that the new one can spark change in us all these days
i look the original
these celebrities are so funny Snoop Dogg is worth over a hundred million dollars he's not taking No abuse he's full of crap and we didn't take no abuse I wasn't around back then
I don't like the remake
Who wants to watch this again? I think we all know how it ends.
Bring back reading rainbow.
just like titanic, right? i'll *still* watch.
There is no need to watch it if you've already seen it. I think the blacks who have never seen it should watch it. My son watched the original with me three weeks ago. I watched it with him (my 2nd time, his first). It opened up a huge discussion between us about race. That is as good of a reason to either re-arrange the old version or watch the reboot version.
Its Still not told CORRECTLY....ACCORDING to the BIBLE 1611KJV. . These slaves was and is still the HEBREW ISRAELITE Deu.28:64
How you play in Roots and marry one who looks like the enslaver?
Snoop is right bc he's poor and always in chains
😎👍@startrekmaniac
And all the Irish got was "The Manions of America". :-/
The remake was too Hollywood
The original was fantastic however, becoming an adult and learning this really happened I was unable to watch it. It was too difficult. 💚💛👏👏🙏🏴
I also believe that the youth feel nothing more than hate rather than looking back and praising how the world has changed and will continue to change. Hopefully for peace.
U do realize that the African tribes were selling their ppl to the Spanish, which then got transported to the British isles, an from there America, right? There wasn't white ppl running thru the jungle snaring the Africans, they knew they knew land and had the upper hand. Guerilla warfare my friend. It was their fellow Africans that sold them to the "white man" which somehow got turned into "American". Tho it started with their own ppl, then the Spanish, and etcetera
They didn't know it happened on this soil
and all over world now leadership is try to become guardians but God keep telling them ain't no marriage in heaven what they
don't understand about that
I loved snoop But him doing what he is doing is wrong and him saying that black people still are going though the same stuff as they Did is wrong the black people back then Had it so bad and yes America still needs to learn and treat everybody the same thank god I'm Canadian
I read i understand and i have not had an easy life i have been on my own since i was 14 So don't act like your the only who has had a bad life
Snoop Dog is a millionaire complaining about how bad it is now. Pathetic.
MORE LIKE OVER A BLUNT
that a good thing don't look as it as bad.. that they want to see you..
O j 1995
Never forget about it like the white catholic and prostents ... who cares
it doesn't matter if someone remind you of what you were, all you gotta do is let them see you better, " i was a slave but look at me now". don't be prideful, remember where you came from.
I agree...My past and ancestory past will always be part of me...I remember after the show originally aired blacks went from upset to prideful with "black is beautiful" calling each other "brothers and sisters"...not "bit#h"...We felt closer because we shared a bond....
Is
