This is one of my favorite videos of yours. The photos and videos, plus your commentary, made it seem like we were right in the action, which is exciting. I would look forward to similar videos for other seasons of XC and track, or maybe even a single, key race. The discussion of strategy and your competitors is very insightful. It seems like you are able to take away this key thesis: make sure you have fun!
I love watching you and Molly race. Molly's 'pain cave' and finding another gear are crazy amazing. She is such a nice person that you can only praise her for it.
As a distance coach, it is hard not to love the insights this kind of video segment provides. Self analysis is so very challenging-difficult. Thank you.
Allie: this resonates. A brief story: my older sons (twins) ran for the legendary high-school coach Joe Newton at York Community High School in Elmhurst, IL (and were so influenced by him that they both have become high-school coaches themselves, after very fine D3 running careers). One of the many lessons Coach Newton taught was essentially that success does not only breed success; it also breeds expectation. Once you win, people expect you to keep winning and to keep excelling and keep doing better- even when life may not let you. It is not realistic to think you will win every time, that you will continue on an arc that only goes up all the time- meeting setbacks is important, and as Coach Newton would say, get up and keep trying every single time. Never quit. That's a lesson we can all take, and I will send this to my son today as his team- one of the top teams in IL- heads toward its regional meet on Saturday. Thank you for sharing this!
Yes, that is so true. I don't think that I realized how much the expectations impacted me until I took the time to make this video and reflect on this season. I hope that your son and his team can be present in the moment and enjoy their regional meet!
@@allie_ostrander His team ran the fastest 4x800 in IL prep history this past summer and was #7 all time in prep running (7.32.14). I hope you won't mind me posting this clip of Coach Newton making this point: ruclips.net/video/Xa-TerQpDMA/видео.html. It is just 90 seconds long.
Beating the future Olympic Marathon Bronze Medalist and setting a course record.....Beyond Impressive! Keep going Allie, you have that great combination of talent, speed, and guts. Maybe you will beat Molly in the marathon some day! That was one amazing race!
This is an excellently constructed doc. You're a good storyteller, and you built up the drama well. I found myself getting verklempt seeing you win these races as the freshman underdog. Very inspiring. Everybody has their niche. Maybe yours is cross country and road races. After all, you grew up scaling the Alaskan mountains. Also, there's the unique Allie O. wit that permeates the whole video. Laugh, tear up, thanks. On an analytical note: 2017 was tougher because the Kenyan Ednah Kurgat showed up. Looking at the results, I see you beat some really good runners like Karissa Schweizer. Do you remember the tactics of the second race? Cross country can't always be measured by straight up time like in track, which you know but I'm just saying.
I loved this and stayed up way past my bedtime because I couldn’t stop! I enjoyed following your journey, the ups & downs of life too. Im so glad I found your channel! You’re a great athlete!
It’s impressive that you could do all that training that’s required at collegiate level, deal with all the pressures and on top of it all still be an honor student! Now that’s success! Thanks for sharing!👍
Allie. Always be proud of what you have done. It inspires me in my running. Nothing can take that away. But I must say your best days are ahead of you. The Lord wanted you to be happy and he gave you running as a talent to experience happiness. Rather it is in running or not he wants to bless you. He has a powerful plan for your life. While your running is amazing.....never forget you are amazing in many ways both known and unknown to us.
Having been at the Roy Griak in 2015, it changed the way I view women's cross country and made me a fan. I stuck around to see another amazing win by a 12 girl in the HS Girls top competition. I then went home and watched your Mount Marathon Races on You Tube and have been a follower ever since. I even returned to the Roy Griak two more time, because 2015 just amazed me that the smallest was so good.
@@allie_ostrander For some reason I thought you did, But I remember now you took second. Still not bad. I was at the 1K, 3K and 4K. I thought you had it from where I was. Still you were one of the smallest running with a bare foot team mate out in front. What was with that?
Loved seeing classic Allie O!!! Been filling you since you were in HS. Not a stalker...just a huge fan and want to see you back in action. Take care of yourself and continue being the role model to all young girls/women like you are.
Such a great video. So interesting to realise that most of the difference was in your mindset - nothing to do with your fitness. I can see how that freshman success could derail you by putting so much pressure on for repeat performances. Such a shame, given the joy you experienced in that year. Epic to see you, Molly & Dom fighting it out!
While other seasons may not have been your "most successful" I would love to see videos like this covering them. I am not a runner and your content has shown me more to competitive running than I thought existed.
I’m a former DIII and I can definitely attest that ignorance is truly bliss. I didn’t go to nationals until indoor season my sophomore year and was able to get 4th place in the mile. I didn’t even come close to that place again until my senior season of cross. It’s so easy to compare your past successes to where you are and that can make it so mentally challenging to feel like you’re successful again!
I really enjoy watching your videos. Your editing and voice overs are top notch. My son is a talented runner and I will be showing him your videos for technique & inspiration. Thanks again for sharing! Great work!
Great job! Your voice overs have always been first rate as have your insights into your race performances. Please make more of these. They are first rate!
The measure of a woman isn’t how many times she falls, it is how many times she gets back up. By that measure, your best XC season may be now, even if you aren’t running XC races now, you are positively contributing to the XC community immeasurably.
Thanks for the really genuine look into your early college days. Really interesting to hear your perspective. Having fun really is the best for performance
You did a great job with this video; I loved your presentation and expression of how you felt. Cross country is really challenging at the level you were running. Starting the race with so many other runners is like crazy, and then seeing you come across the finish line up front was really great. Thanks for this.
So good for you and us followers that you have the footage and photos of your superb performances. To say you have beaten Siedel and Frerichs must be amazing not only for you but for us lot as well
Allie absolutely love this video. Speaking of senior year you should either do your senior year in high school when u won NXN or your senior year track season when you won the steeplechase!!! Love u sm
Liked the self reflection, I think this will help a lot of high school athletes and college athletes to take into account the way we put expectations on ourselves and how that affects performance.
Thanks for doing that. I can still remember watching the NCAA race and how irritating it was at the end when Seidel emerged from the woods first. If you want suggestions for another similar video how about analyzing your three NCAA steeplechase wins and how you felt each time and how things were different or similar.
LOVE these kinds of videos! I was just thinking of you when watching Nuttycombe earlier this week. Maybe for another idea you could do an XC course tierlist or analyze your other seasons too. The background into your experiences is so fascinating with all the different meets across the country. I hope all has been going well for you too and you're enjoying this beautiful fall season! 🍁🍂🍂
Absolutely awesome I was at that race in 2015 in San Francisco one of my girls that I coached is going to USF this year so seeing you but not knowing you is just awesome. 😍 last time I saw you was at Western regionals with your team you are absolutely incredible
Love this kind of video! Really cool to get a more personal perspective of a past season of yours. It would be cool to get an analysis of the next seasons after this one but no pressure! Any content you take time to create is cool to watch!
Loved this video Ally! I think it would be interesting for you to commentate on a season where you feel like your ED hindered your performance or where you really felt the effects of it in racing. As someone who’s struggled with similar issues I know it would be helpful to hear your perspective on that
I failed to have any consistency in my training in college because I always got injured. I had to take two years off for a job, but now I am about 15 months into consistent training and almost back to where I was then
What an amazing journey of all you''re running meets well done im sure the training was a lot to. And you are still running today it's so much fun to follow your channel and watch you enjoying running. Have you ever considered being a running coach to helps others i think you would be great at it you have alot of passion for the sport i always look forward to your vlogs have a great week hope your enjoying some of the fall weather;. I took a trip Seattle in 2019 what nice city i enjoyed every minute and the weather was very nice to.
It’s crazy to hear how Star struck you were because I would’ve been star struck being by you, especially given how you did in high school then that first year
Sometimes the other women look muscley and strong and in comparison you are almost like a doll running round the track and yet you have so much grit!! Looks really dont mean anything. You are Tiger or a lioness on the trail or track. I know comments on appearance are sensitive to ED survivors (I'm one too and was similarly small and blonde) but it just goes to show that it's what's inside that counts and what our bodies can do when trained & driven by a sharp determined mindset that really counts. As I get older I love my body more and more (58yrs old) as I apply it to all kinds of tasks and it responds incredibly. That kind of relationship with your body blesses you all your life.
Yeah, I just see that NBC video that is about three and half minutes. I bet they disrespected that race by going to commercial. It would still be fun to hear about your lead up to the race, in race thoughts, and where it places in your career accomplishments.
Just so we know the level of athletes you are competing with and beating here, Allie, Dom Scott participated in TWO events ( 5 & 10km) in the last TWO Olympics. You've got this, Girl!!!
That was a fun video. Loved the footage and your analysis. Do you think the forced time off with hip injury after high school played any role in your strong season?
