This album came out when I was a sophomore in high school! Always loved this album and Youthanasia! They are still one of my favorite bands! I can really relate to this song as I'm sure a lot of people can!
Everyone talks about this album and how they used to be an addict. Shit, I miss being 15 and listening to this and riding my bike with my best friend in my small desert town. 16 years later those memories seem to get more meaningful and stronger with time.
One of the first albums I ever got and my favorite Megadeth album. Great songwriting, awesome production (remastering was so unecessary) and so much feeling in Dave's voice!
There is no way I could have known just how relatable this album was when It when first came out all those decades ago. I appreciate it more and more as the years go by.
+MrRantingRandy I'd disagree, but keep in mind this is all opinion. Countdown was definitely a change of pace for them. Musically, it was a lot more accessible to more people, with less pure thrash influence, more along the lines of groove metal honestly. Still, the songs have the aggressiveness and edge of thrash metal. Youthanasia I've always felt is a more a simple heavy metal record than anything. Mid tempo songs, chunkier riffing, more solid, straight drumming. They toned down their sound even more. Not really too many songs that could be switched between the two and still make sense in either context (my rough gauge of "similarness"). Symphony and Foreclosure I suppose (lighter ones off Countdown), and Killing Road and Victory vice versa (faster ones off Youthanasia). Cryptic Writings was also pretty different, in the way that it's got a little bit of everything. Again, they toned down their sound a little, but there's quite a variation of songs on that record. This song and Almost Honest are the hard rock kinda thing, Trust, Mastermind, and Sin are in the Youthanasia heavy metal vein, and FFF and Disintegrators are more thrash. I could see many songs from Cryptic on Youthanasia, like everything except Almost Honest, Use The Man, and this song. They actually wrote a few songs for it that ended up pushed onto Cryptic that were rereleased on the latter's remaster as demos. And now Risk...undeniably hard rock, with a more experimental influence. Quite a jump from Cryptic Writings, and really anything they'd done previous. The lighter songs from Cryptic I could imagine hearing on here, especially Use The Man and Almost Honest, and Prince of Darkness on Cryptic vice versa. Not really anything else. My apologies for the essay , but I thought I should explain my thoughts behind my opinion.
This song helped me get through the most excruciatingly painful heartbreak I've had so far in this life. To quote Sandor Clegane: "Hate's as good a thing as any to keep a body going. Better than most."
Ahh the memories..I saw the tour and bought the cd on the first day..That song couldn't have come at the right time..I had someone who I thought I meant the world to..I was soo wrong...I was an angry 22 year old..lol..Thanks Dave for this song...It help me coped...but don't worry guys I've been happily married for 16 years and been together for 20.. :)
Damn, knows better than anyone how to write lyrics about bad relationships, I can relate a lot of Megadeth songs with that subject. That's one of the reason I love CW so much.
Bass wise I thought the modulus was Dave's best tone and it was nice to hear him play bass with a less metal feel and to music with more groove. He did great on these albums just as he was wicked on the early speed metal albums. Dave is one hell of a versatile bassist. Mustaines unique and at times chaotic writing style I always thought was held together by the bass playing more than most people realize
Tom Betty i guess i’m lucky because the people who listened to it in the 90s are propably bored now lol I put every megadeth album on repeat these days

The Friedman years were the absolute best years of Megadeth imo first time ever hearing them was in grade 2 my oldest brother bought the last action hero soundtrack. Angry again was the first song and probably my favourite Megadeth song.
They did an unplugged version of this that was released on a fans-only unplugged in Philly disc, and I actually liked it better that way: it was incredible.

Never ceases to amuse me that you come to a band like Megadeth online, and there are ALWAYS a handful of people proclaiming the nuances between what is or isn't speed, thrash, groove, slop,...ad nauseum, regarding what the band is doing, has done, etc, as if they did a dissertation on it...and the VAST MAJORITY of them are either not players AT ALL, or are guys who've given themselves carpal tunnel and other maladies by doing nothing but practicing to shred scales day after day year after year, and still...they sit in their basement, unable to really play a solid simple rhythm to a song with any kind of real feel for the song.
My mom said to me and I doubt anyone's reading this I say that a lot but she said this song reminded her of me well I guess the reason is I always said I'm going to get even with somebody I am very truly pathetic and that's a fact
That bass..
Yeah, fucking killer, catchy-ass bass line!
👍
Lmoa I put this song on just now to show my wife ky favorite bass line hahaha, perfect comment
Bass in yo face...
Why I play bass, all these songs I said that about lol 😂
1994: "It ain't about getting even" (Reckoning Day)
1997: "I'LL GET EVEN WITH YOU!"
Laugh out loud:) peace
2020:" I'll get even with youuu!!!"🤬
@Zedrik Allen what in the goddamn hell are you talking aboutm
Drug abuse and loss of loved ones can change a person.
@Ellis Rodrigo what in the goddamn hell are you talking about
I'm lonely and abandoned
Washed up, left for dead
I'm lost inside the desert
Of every word you said
Like a nuclear reactor
Or TNT
I'm thinking about the times
When you lied to me
All the innuendo
Caught up on your hook
I was just a name
In your little black book
Ah, I'll get even with you
I'm bitter and I'm twisted
I haven't slept in days
I'm lonely and I'm angry
I can't make it go away
I'm like a bomb that's ticking
I got voices in my head
I got a doll with needles in
Wishing you were dead
I'll get you back somehow
That's what I'm gonna do
I'll get you back somehow
Your nightmare coming true
Ah, I'll get even with you
Ah, that's what I'm gonna do
Gonna get even with you
You better look behind you
'Cause there I'm gonna be
I'll be standing in the shadows
With who I used to be
He's slightly schizophrenic
Me and me and me and me agree
That you are gonna pay
For what you did to me
Ah, I'll get even with you
Gonna get even with you
Ah, that's what I'm gonna do
I'm gonna...
Ah, I'll get even with you
Your ears work too? Ñice!!

Old Uncle Dave... This dude raised me... hahahah
Am I the only one who gets head to toe goosebumps from this song?
Fuck it feels so good
No me too it's a great song!!
that is because part of it is because the main bass part is a slowed down version of Seek and Destroy
not possible
OMG YESSSSSS
The first verse almost sounds like a disco song for a little while.
Everyone talks about this album and how they used to be an addict. Shit, I miss being 15 and listening to this and riding my bike with my best friend in my small desert town. 16 years later those memories seem to get more meaningful and stronger with time.

Exactly, listening with more mature ears and you pick up on so much more sonic energy.
One of the first albums I ever got and my favorite Megadeth album. Great songwriting, awesome production (remastering was so unecessary) and so much feeling in Dave's voice!
The only good thing about the remastered version is the album cover

My fav song on this album and one of my fav Megadeth songs.

Thankfully theres apps that can do that but the quality is terrible
Cryptic Writings: No Voices In Your Head

That intro gives me chills
MEGADAVE
possibly their best album. not too heavy so it fits most people
+guldrev That's why this is the only album from Megadeth I like
+Adrian Coutto You would probably like Youthanasia too then, because it's really pretty similar to this album.
ThatGuyBen99 Youthanasia have nothing in similar to this album. Youthanasia is a speed metal, this one is not.
Adrian Coutto No, it's not speed metal. Youthanasia's songs were mid tempo.
+MrRantingRandy I'd disagree, but keep in mind this is all opinion.
