It's crazy that we can just go on RUclips and see history captured live like this.
So true; shows you what wonders we are capable when we stop the stupidness. The crowed were all totally caught up in the great performance. They all embraced the greatness whilst chilling along side each other then back home where they found comfort in hate. I really don’t get it it
Music is an amazing gift 🎁
True! The sound quality of this recording is astounding! What did they use? Try and replicate this at a concert today with an iPhone, and then you'll appreciate just well this is recorded! Also, I feel like Led Zeppelin must have had some kind of RUclips back in the 60s when they stole all this old music!! LOL
Yes its good bring back memberies
Exactly! 1960 feels like far away.
We are time travelers. It's wonderful. Enjoying the trip.
This is literally one of the greatest 30 minutes in all music history HERE.
It brings tears to my eyes seeing how Muddy captivated an audience who had NEVER heard such sounds before. Historic for sure.
Without this, the first two Led Zeppelin albums would never have happened. That's clear to me now.
Or the Rolling Stones name.
They "relied" heavily on Howling Wolf to
Nothing would have happened: no Brain Jones and the Rolling stones🥰no John mayall, no bluesbreackers no Cream, no Canned Heat, no Butterfield Blues etc and maybe also no Pink Floyd, because there name are to abscure blues players. And worst of all: no fucking Jimi Hendrix Experience........
Wow what great footage of the baddest blues man ever
That’s Langston Hughes introducing Muddy Waters!
So cool!
This is the best live performance ever recorded, ever.
You hear who he influenced when he plays.
Been listening to this concert since I was 6.... cassette tape was the first time I heard it and introduced me to Muddy.... been my favorite since.. Couldn't agree more.
@@keyboard_customs I borrowed this album when I was about eleven or twelve years old over forty years ago. I could tell that is were the Rock & Roll of the day came from. There was something special about Muddy Waters that nobody else could come close to in my mind back then. It opened up the world of music to me instead of just listening to what everyone else was listening to.
@@sivvybee heard about his influence but can see it my self now
I was born on Valentine’s Day 1961. Less than 8 months after this. Muddy has been part of my musical tapestry since I found out the Stones were named after Rollin Stone Blues back when I was 12 in ‘73 and the rabbit hole of blues it opened for me is still one of my favorite places in the world. Thank you McKinley. (MW)
i mean, it's just 30 minutes, but Muddy shares the stage with two other lead singers. He's bringing his community with him, puting the full range of talent on stage at the Newport Jazz Festival -- one of the largest musical stages at the time. he is so clearly trying to demonstrate to white folk the full range of black talent when he could have hogged the spotlight to himself and it's amazing.
finest blues performace ever captured on film
True!
@@esquilaxjohnson If you Search for Howlin Wolf and American Folk Blues Festival you might get several good Clips that will give you a bit of satisfaction

Came from the south where he learned his blues in a country acoustic format. Delta blues made its way to Chicago not solely thru Muddy but he definitely had the sharpest look and the tightest band. Can you imagine Buddy Guy playing guitar for Muddy? Good lord people.....just blows my mind. He a rollin' stone sho nuff! And you see white people and black people in the crowd enjoying the heck out of this. That is a beautiful thing. This is just fantastic in every way possible!
Hey, not sure if you already know this but Buddy Guy plays on Muddy's album, The Folk Singer. Highly recommended
@@vladimirmihajlovic2485 yes i knew that and i know Muddy took Buddy under his wing. Buddy played on all kinds of stuff for Chess records back in the day. Thanks for the tip!
rdmkeytohwy - so true this is one of the most amazing things I have ever seen in my life; the way the crowd from all backgrounds were just comfortable in each other’s space and living as one is mind blowing giving what was actually happening at that time. It’s so crazy how they could go from this settled place of enjoyment to a place where hate could manifest. Just shows what we are capable of when we put nonsense to the side
@@registame2878 totally agree!! And why wouldn’t we get along? We are all human beings and equal in every way.
@@rdmkeytohwy so true; some people real do for get it that sometimes.
This reminded me never to forget or take it for granted that we are all one in the same.
/mind is still blown to be honest
Thank's to Total Master of the blues Muddy Waters! You change my life forever. R.I.P. Muddy.
muddy waters saved me , thank you jesus
Sad fact this music has disappeared... this was the music that everyone I knew played and worshipped.
This is at the bottom of American music. This influence is what has been missing. This music demonstrates
how to play music... and what is important and what isn't and how to make emotional music that tells a story
Никуда она не исчезла! Её до сих пор слушают и играют ребята даже в России! И ты не поверишь, даже с гармоникой!
@@РостиславКраев-ц5пThat’s awesome
Historic footage.
It should be in museum.
The mojo was working
I’m new to this film, relatively. As it rolls on by and that voice jumps from the headphones and into my ears, I totally GET IT as to why there’s such reverence for this man. He was just a natural. It’s so REAL.
I love the hell out of all these fine artists ..wish i coulda been there at the beginning.they echo nothing but freedom for the soul of man . We cant ever loose this spirit... If we do... america is dead ..
The peak of an artistic form right there.
"Put A Tiger in Your Tank" was a Mobil promotion of that era. Participating filling station dealers rewarded customers with a faux 'tiger tail'' affixed to the gas cap signifying their patronage. Muddy was prescient adapting several automotive references in his lyrics with the blues motif.
Esso gas now Exon
Нам крупно повезло, что это выступление было записано, да еще и в таком потрясающем качестве!
They try and hide history from us , a take that will never chay
If I had a time machine: I'd go back to see this show (maybe a few times), then I'd see Dylan at Royal Albert Hall in '66, check out Woodstock, go watch the Beatles on the roof, see Queen at Live Aid and cap it off with Nirvana at Reading.
If only one video could stay up on RUclips it should always be this. The base for all of rock n' roll.
I could say so many things about this who knew someone filmed it?
I say that because we had that album Live at the Newport Jazz Festival & Got my Mojo working blasting out mom's Magnavox stereo was amazing even back then.
Makes me broken hearted that Elmore James & his Broom Dusters were tearing up Chicago in 60 & not a film anywhere, & very few pictures! :(
Yes, it is great and historic, the reason is, after Muddy Waters played, things got even rowdier, and the committee at Newport didn't want that kind of stuff going on in their streets. Muddy Waters was a dirty name, although it was exactly this sensation that Bob Dylan was looking for, and his electric performance was inspired by the uproar. Muddy Waters, on the other hand, had to cool down his act and put out "Folk Singer" with Buddy Guy and "Real Folk Blues". But the 1960 show was talked about internationally, and Muddy's reputation was sealed, and Muddy Waters was not asked back to Newport for a very long time.
WOW, Mean Mistreater @ 18:03!!! Muddy is so freaking cool. Look at that guy, he owns it all!!! Also, Otis Span on the piano makes this whole thing. The piano is key. Absolutely love this stuff!!!
This is unbelievable. I love a woman's singing something I have never heard of such beautiful powerful voice before.
@@sekaisaiko2008 and James Cotton on Harp.... magic.
Mudman had a tiger in his tank 🎉
Get on down Muddy Waters!! Every body knew you!
Mis mejores hayeres nostálgicos gracias
PAT ' killer' HARE - watch out! RIP all of these demi-Gods.
Muddy is the man who started my real musical journey into what I like to call “soul” music…one of the most influential musicians of all time and what an electric performance! I have so much respect and admiration for Muddy Waters. Saw his red telecaster at the rock and roll hall of fame and it was a spiritual experience for me
He’s appearing here with “Hoss” his telecaster later he painted it red and it’s seen when he plays with the Stones.
Wow. I did not expect that in 1960! How into it is this audience...who knew white people were grooving to blues and soul then. And a mixed group who didn't seem to exclude each other. The music moves all of them. Can I say I loved the "dancers!" And the old dude on violin. Thanks for putting this on RUclips whoever you are!
you can't beat youtube for finding stuff like this
This is true a find and is mind blowing. Just shows some people where happy living side by side each other. The people that were at this concert need to be found if they are still with us so we can get feel for what was actually going on here
Great quality video & audio! 6:02 - 6:03 - The black woman clapping knows where the backbeat is. The white woman is clapping on the downbeat. The back beat memo had not yet been widely circulated. At that point I had no idea what either one was :) p.s. the drummer is left handed!
The black woman looks a lot like Nina SiMone
The back beat! Yes. Difficult to feel but it’s there. I wasn’t aware of its relevance and it’s important presence.
Hands down the best Muddy performance I've ever seen.
Goosebumps!
Thank you my dear friend for uploading this. I'm from Argentina listening to muddy on 2021 and that's because you shared this video. This words are not enough
1:40 When you got a priceless vidéo at home ...
I have often seen Muddy in London but he was well into Middle Age, as with most of the stuff we see so it is great to see him in the prime of Life. Enough to freak out the KKK but I guess not too many of them around Newport. RIP Muddy and all those great Blues Guys and Gals.
Get you chin down the ground cause it is the great Muddy and his Mojo band playing.
I've seen a lot of Muddy live but this is truly amazing! I honestly didn't know he could get down like he did dancing! What! New admiration for him more than before lol!
He young in this video, when he got older he just sang in Mic or sat on stool and sang.
Righteous Champion, we know who Elvis was influenced by!
He's like .... 46 or 47 in the film clip from 1960. These teenagers named Mick, Keith, Bryan, and Charlie were fans of his band and a major goal they had (which they achieved) was to record at Chess Recording Studios in Chicago. Bill Wyman was a bigger fan of Ray Charles I think.
@@user-fn5mr4oz4j Oh I saw him dancing many time between 75 & 80, even his car accident let him a little bit stiff. And, believe me, at the time, he was still was dynamite.
@@BrotherBrio Yes, Bill Wyman is a good reference.
Wow, I got them old cosmic blues listening to this... and recorded in1960 in STEREO to boot!
FANTASTIC Muddy Waters!!😊
WOW - this has got to be one of the better bands Mr. Muddy Waters ever put together! A group of true professionals and the groove .... oh, the groove! I know thats right!!
Boozoo Chavis sure thing Boozoo, great balance and sound quality.
King of the blues!!
Vengo de Música Radar Clan🎶🎧👍 saludos cordiales 🇨🇱
The Stones turned up to record at Chess studios and apparently Muddy was painting the studio.
Perfection from one of our greatest!
I was three years old when this performance happened - WAAAAY ahead of his time. In fact imagine being in the crowd and looking back at yourself and seeing how cool you were back then, listening to the very best. How fortunate those people are to say they saw Muddy Waters live at his very, very best! It's great to be alive today and watching such an incredible gift of spirit and soul conveyed in performing the most amazing music. Muddy Waters is in heaven no creating music for all the other angels! God bless him!
From @18:08 Completely baffled watching this for the first time, so many layers I dont know where to begin..Words can simply not describe how awesome this is...
Here add-in ONE year later ... So Totally Agree with You... and ... still ... today adding one "like' to make 696 'Likes'... :0
I noticed that aswell, and it being 1960 i never would have thought his crowd would have been basically all white folks. That seems odd for the time period but obviosuly i don't know much.
My lord, that voice!
I love how everybody went bananas with "Got my mojo working".
Love the Newport Jazz Festival. Best performers and audience. A tradition of class A acts.
DAYUM. SREAMING ELECTRIC GUITAR AND HOWLING PIANO
Icon of icons.
Wonderful moment. Great that's all
surely the greatest
this concert had a huge influence ,like bob dylans, for the way music developed.
the audience saw and felt it. things like this cannot happen today
because everybody tries to film it with their cellphones and miss it.
amazing performance. pat hare in the back.
love his music...the man that got me into the blues...
Me too!
Fantastic clip of one of the absolute best. and what musicians!
What I would Give to have been in that Audience on that Day!!!!! Wow What a Performance👌
This is what music is all about in my opinion, Muddy and the band had such a great time performing in Newport playing blues and the audience enjoying it every single minute. Thank u for uploading this video
fantastique performance LIVE de Muddy Waters !
Yeah what else can says he doesn’t get better than this ❤
RUclips The Only True Time Machine
Que hermosos eran los cantantes de antes esa voz tan especial todo tan natural, NO como hoy en dia no pasa nada.
Wow that sounds great? I never knew Muddy Waters was this great and the recording for those times is excellent I don’t know how they captured it but it sounds great
Bro @6minute mark look around like are we the only ones who liking this?
At his peak!...
Muddy up there with Duke Ellington.
Too bad that this video is not edited rightly at the end, we've got a "reprise" of "Mean Mistreater" but same footage with un-syncronised sound.
Some classic footage right here.
LEGEND! Absolutely legend! This has so many historical implications and pivotal to modern music. Muddy Waters, he was super cool... interpreting such tradition in such a modern way. The artists he brought with him were outstanding too. You just can't beat youtube for stumbling across great stuff like this
This is beautiful. The way that the crowd is mannered and composes itself is so characteristic of the time. Something that could never happen naturally again.
Interesting that you should say that. As it happens, the behaviour of the audiences at the 1960 jazz festival was so anarchic that the National Guard were called in and cancelled the remainder of the festival. This blues concert was the last item to finish, and the festival did not come back until 1962.
@@lawrencedavies4398 It shows how little most people know about that time period. Hell i would have never guessed the crowd watching Muddy Waters was basically all white folks, being it was in 1960.
@@lawrencedavies4398yeah a lot of the crowd looks hammered lol not in a belligerent way though
i think only video can see pat hare.
i just picked this up on vinyl still sealed and wrapped in plastic :)
My uncle had it. I could still picture the album cover today. I spent enough time laying back in bed with the cover in my hand while listening to the record.
Lucky dog! 😎
Great to Nina Simone really diggin' Muddy at 17:36 and a few other moments
What can I say? Essential is a word too fashionable ... Elementary
2021 muddy waters the king of the blues
Best fucking bluesman ever.
And here we are, 60 years in the future, those men and their music continues for hundreds of years, the same case that the todays ¿"influencers"?actions
