    I can not even begin to imagine how terrifying it must be to look at such a beautiful artwork, with so much effort invested in it, and then just cover it in grout. It must take amazing faith that your 8 months of work will be safe and properly represented on the other side. Stunning work though, I love fee byzantine style early renaissance Italian architecture and artworks, I think the history and aesthetic are unmatched in their beauty. If I wasn't a poor history student I would have a mosaic like this in my home. I have nothing but the greatest respect for people keeping these traditional techniques alive, it's a wonderful thing you are doing. Art like this shouldn't be confined to museums and roped off areas of old churches, they were always meant to be practical, walked on or viewed and touched, obviously that's not practical for the ones that are a millenium old, but these stunning examples can be viewed and used as the originals were intended.
    If I wasn't so artistically retarded I would make my own but that's not going to work for me I don't think. Byzantine mosaic stuck figures just wouldn't have the same impact :)

      Honestly mosaic is probably one of the best mediums for you to learn, start with picking an image. Open it in MS paint or another image editor and go to save as .bmp, you can then select the number of colors, I recommend no more than 6-8. Print it out and try playing around. No one starts off being an art master, it takes a good chunk of practice just as being a student of history means a loooot of reading.

    Nicola, this is one of the best mosaic documentaries I have ever seen. There is so much "soul" in it and I have seen it for sure more than 10 times and I still like it. Bravo!

      Perhaps they meant "flour."

    • @pennykent5687
      @pennykent5687 4 года назад

      I've heard of flour paste. But you have to be careful, as it can dry like cement.
      Think it may have been used to put up wallpaper many years ago too.🤷‍♀️
