Funny story, my wife's grandparents used to own the land that the castle is built on. It used to be a strawberry patch. I took some photos of it this summer with my daughter.
this is something that I would actually consider just because of its land size and the unusualness. someone could turn it into an event center with restaurant.
This castle has been for sale for years and years , To put scaffolding around a regular house in Japan costs $10,000 USD , imagine how much the castle will cost if you can find anyone to repair the roof .
If i was rich and didn't care about losing a few hundred thousand, I'd buy this place and turn the first floor into a coffee shop called Castle Coffee, then turn the other floors into rental rooms for ski tourists, rent the Shogun suite at the top, only $500 a night! Lol
haha awesome find, but like with all the temples and shrines that are also for sale. The financial upkeep to maintain is a money pit and living in Northern Hokkaido would be a hell no from me.
Good find! Keep it up. Im weary of the same old Tokyo stuff. Surely the tax can be reassessed? How much was the original construction cost? Who lived there?
never ever ever think buying old crappy properties in japan and never ever think to move to rural areas.. u will not be welcome and have to obey the elder there. and by the way u dont own anything cos u only got a worthless 2D land title !!! full legal jurisdiction holds the local government...
@@TheFrickshow I live in an old house on the Pacific coast. Freehold, cheap. Yes, there are community rules & standards, I have no problem with these. If I was tattooed, loud, inconsiderate, doped-up on "medical marijuana " it might be much harder.
I suppose this isn't a "koubou" (government sale). Japan is covered with odd things like closed down amusement parks, hot springs resorts, factory structures, and the like which are often sold off for back taxes, or just to raise revenue for rural cities. Unfortunately, these places usually close for good reason. I've visited a few of them, they are interesting places to check out and explore, but they are a great way to throw away your hard-earned money.

Obviously a white elephant, however 30 years ago I started buying run-down worthless farm houses in Australia which are now worth big bucks, I'm sure Canada is the same. If there's no major earthquakes etc.. I could see Japan going the same way...in the long-term. And imagine the view. I'm to old for this now, don't have the energy, but for someone young and cashed up. Getting the tax reassesed is an interesting idea.

May i ask what that phrase means in this case? Where im from, we have White Elephant Sales, which are huge popular warehouse sales full of really fascinating and cool vintage goods. So its a popular event.
@@MonkeyHero Bruce and Daniel use this expression. It means something that seems special and unusual but is often totally unnecessary and impossible to find a place or use for.
@@MonkeyHero White elephant is commonly used to mean a difficult item that is a burden to keep. A story is that a Thai king would gift white elephants to people and they are obligated to take care of it. If he liked you, he would give you land to help pay for it. If he didn't like you, you just had to pay for it yourself. I remember hearing a story that neglecting the elephant could be counted as an offense and the king could move against you. Maybe just speculation.
this place done up to be an apartment complex would be cool as heck. some combini's and some decent jobs around would seal the deal

if only it was portable! That thing would have like a $2M (at least) replacement value.
Don’t forget the taxation per floor 😉

I would make one room on the ground floor livable and keep the rest as is. Maybe open it as a castle tour. And of course fix the roof.
My guess would be they are the ‘sales price’ behind on property taxes so the seller will net nothing!
Hotel or Airbnb! If it was structurally sound.
