Hi David! The lack of under-seat storage in the TRD PRO version is a big negative. There will be no after-market solution either because of that big battery sitting under the seat. I wish there was an option to get a non-hybrid version for the TRD PRO.
I use the upper storage container that has the lid for change, instead of trying to put it down below I just put up there and it’s easy to get out when needed.
So excited for you! Hoping this means it won’t be too much longer till mine arrives. Really odd issue with the emblem and not something I would expect from Toyota. Small quality control issues as the ones you pointed out make me wonder about other quality control issues perhaps under the hood or not in plain sight. I’m also with you on the camo trim around the wheels. I think it looks tacky. I saw your video on the 10 reasons to buy a 2022 lexus gx and that is what I ended up doing.
Newer cars especially the ones who have massively changed from a older models generally have more issues, now for Toyota they always check for quality control a lot, each time there is a issue they stop the production line and figure it out unlike other manufactures, but ever since the pandemic there was a lack of parts especially the chips and I'm not 100% sure but I'm pretty sure that Toyota has no time to stop production
Great! I'm sincerely hoping to hear great things after around 20K miles. Over 20K trouble free miles doesn't seem to be very common with the new 2022. Keep us updated, please.
Thanks so much! I would love to drive to your place for a real off-road testing! Until then, we should at least do a collab video on the Tundra or Toyota truck topics!
I just picked up my 22 TRD PRO in the exact same color combo yesterday in the GTA Ontario, and first thing I did was check for some of the issues you have had. And I would like to inform people possibly concerned about these issues, that is seems that they are doing better in terms of fit/finish. All my emblems are correct, the plastic trim piece that he had bad fiment on at the driver side corner of the hood on mine are fit well on both sides. And the window seals on mine have a small gap maybe 1/8" but has the same gap on both sides. The only quality issue I have so far one day in, is there was a small scracth on the center cap of the steering wheel, that I made a complaint about and would like Toyota to replace. One of the only other little issues that I noticed so far, was it feels like the plastic covers on the tops of the sides of the bed, seem looser then the previous genertaion. I don't know if it will become and issue and cause a rattle in the future, but just grabbing onto them the seem looser and have more movement then I am used to.
@@AutomotivePress Thank you for the reviews! I knew what to look for because of people like you that got them earlier and shared them with us. The 17 is still in the driverway as I prepair to list it for sale. And I can honestly tell everyone I have no desire to drive it again, and I do not miss the V8 at all. Congrats David, glad your truck has finally come in. Your videos on these vehicles are full of great information. Like you, i wish they would of designed a system to get into the Tundra's bed but they have done a great job on the Interior.
Extremely detailed review, although i disagree with the comment Orange Peel wasn’t unusual in paint on a truck. On another note, you’ll be impressed with the water resistant qualities of the BakFlip4 Tonneau. No problems with mine keeping cargo dry. With respect to the interior, the TRD Pro signature red stitching doesn’t show-up on the red leather seats.
I remember a guy that bought Chevy Suburban back in the 80’s and it had 6.2 diesel badge but was a gas. He enjoyed telling everyone he had the optional “Whisper “ diesel package.
That “D” turned around backwards is typically what is happening to so much craftsmanship issues in America. Even on excellent made products like Toyota’s, Lexus’s etc…
Wow happy to see the first TRD PRO in Canada! I will receive my limited in july, can you tell me, here in Canada, the limited edition has the same steering wheel and shifter as the TRD Pro, is it worth the extra money for they hybrid engine, suspension and cluster? Or someone who is going with the 1794 or platinum is the TRD Pro worth the extra money?
I like the red interior, not the black interior that is so common on the latest Toyotas. I live in the West Texas where the UV index is extreme (10+) and summer temperatures are regularly over 100 degrees (fahrenheit) with no cloud cover to block the sunlight. The black interior is awfully hot when getting in a car after sitting in the sun and the lighter colors are better. I've used a digital thermometer on the dashboard after car sat in sun and the dash temperature gets to 140 degrees and higher.
The lighter colors always get stained by jeans, though. I think they look worn faster too, but that's totally subjective. I do like having a different option other than black/tan though.
Very thorough review. Thank you for your honesty and insight. Congratulations on the truck! I agree with everything you said, and I hope Toyota takes note of your suggestions and works to implement them in the future.
Nice interior. But that’s about it. Sticking with my 2.5 Gen Trd pro and the 5.7 The display consoles are getting ridiculous but the price point isn’t reasonable right now.
Your review is spot on and well detailed! Is that maverick in the back!? At 80k for you since you live in Canada I’m guessing am I close ? The defects and slippery cubbies are inexcusable . . I think you might of liked the ford ecoboost king ranch a bit more since quality is higher in my opinion.
Hey David, interesting thing about the TRD emblem... You might want to actually leave it that way (rather than having it fixed); it may sound funny but being one of the very first few production units this might end up being somewhat of a collectors piece one day due to that (who knows??) - anyway - sweet ride!!
Interested in hearing your honest opinion and real life experience with the new PRO. Not going to lie, I have not been shy about expressing my negative opinion on the look of the truck, and the recent issues and recalls on the other '22 models is concerning. I am trying to decide if I stay with Toyota for my future full size truck purchases.
Go Rhino @gorhino D6 slider steps would be a perfect replacement for your rock sliders as they offer both protection and a good step. Mine extend out perfectly to my outer tire edge and not beyond. I have the Wildpeak AT 285 65 20. Pretty funny about the D on the hood emblem. I hope they fix it. For the price of the truck….I have the Super Sonic Red Loaded Limited TRD off-road with premium power and Panoramic Roof. I love it! All the same features as the pro except full digital drivers cluster and the badging, suspension can easily be upgraded. But I feel the Bilstiens offer good cross towing, normal driving and off-roading. Pro is more for off road I feel. OH YA have you noticed any air vents that spring to the upper position when adjusting. I do, only my left drivers side does that, it’s annoying as it’s hard to aim at me and AC is subpar. I will ask service to fix during 5K service. YES AC power is not very good, fan and coldness. I get cold and have to turn down AC in my F450 company work truck. Not this one. Actually was gonna ask service to verify proper operation. I’m in HOT So-Cal so it matters. Over all great truck! looks and functions just fine.
Thank you David. As always very detailed and helpful video. While the new gen Tundra is amazing disappointing to see lack of attention to detail. This is not a cheap truck and Toyota is the benchmark setter. Hopefully they don’t get complacent Hyundai/Kia are breathing right down their nose and may take over the mantle if not careful.
IMO, That Bed step should be standard on any Tundra with any package that includes that 14-inch infotainment display or that includes that tailgate release button in the light.

Well done. I appreciate your insights and knowledge. Congrats. I hope to get my 2023 trd pro sequoia in the next few months, fingers crossed.
Waiting for your audits. FYI, Bio-Medical Research Engineer here. Tribology. Love your channel.
Great review. Really enjoy your professional insight my friend!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Congrats David! That’s a great looking truck!
Nah, I’d rather buy gx460. Thank you
Very thorough review. Thank you for your honesty and insight. Congratulations on the truck! I agree with everything you said, and I hope Toyota takes note of your suggestions and works to implement them in the future.
Thank you so much!
Oh a full production model ! Cool thanks
Nice interior. But that’s about it.
Sticking with my 2.5 Gen Trd pro and the 5.7
The display consoles are getting ridiculous but the price point isn’t reasonable right now.
I think having the backwards “D” on the hood emblem is kind of cool
Very comprehensive. Thanks for this
congrats! looking forward to the long term review
It's literally a Beautiful truck!
Interested in how you pull the fuse off the fake engine sound. Please emphasize that in future video when you do.
Congrats I am a tundra owner I did several mods and my next mod is installing magnesium engine & flat panel.
Nice 👍
Beautiful...Will the seats get red matching covers to prevent dye transfer and preserve the integrity of the material?
Hi David, I have the exact same one as you ordered but the eta is end of August. Your in BC but in the prairies In surprised it’s delayed that much! 😳
Great review David. Just to clarify, did the tonneau cover come standard or did they charge you extra for it?
Thank you! It is an optional extra cost item...
Glad you got your tundra Love the color but my tacoma trd Sport access cab m/t is still not allocated after 4 1/2 months
In person it’s soooo much nicer!! Tons of power!
