@@BigManRandom It truly was a magical thing to experience sleep token for the first time and especially TMBTE. I first heard their song The Summoning while high out of my mind. Had my Discover Weekly from Spotify on shuffle and it suddenly came on and it literally felt like the song took me through a whole journey. I'd give anything to experience that again.

Bruh...you have NO IDEA what you just stumbled on. I've been a musician for 20 years and I have NEVER heard a band like this. They are fucking INCREDIBLE. Subbed.
It's difficult to convey to people that we're NOT EXAGGERATING. I haven't found a band I connected with so strongly with AND thoroughly enjoyed almost every one of their songs almost immediately, since discovering Muse almost 20 years ago.
And even against that comparison, I latched onto Sleep Token in only days, and now many weeks they're played every day and SO many of their songs are now in my top 10 favourite all time songs.
You should check out Zeal & Ardor as well as Highly Suspect. Z&A is Blues & Gospel mixed with Black Metal. Highly Suspect is more of a modern sound with Blues, R&B, and Hip-Hop mixed with Alternative/Hard Rock style. Both are incredible.

SONG EXPLAINATION
By far my favorite song on the album, and maybe one of the best portrayals of a toxic abusive relationship from the perspective of the abused. In the beginning hes saying he knows that his abuser is just using him for their own benefit. The abuser (sleep) conned him into the current predicament by manipulation and superiority complex (“diamonds in the trees, pentagrams in the night sky”) where basically hes saying at face value sleep is a diamond but behind the facad is a devil. In the end we get a false sense of the abused (vessel) saying he’s gonna move on from sleep (“ill take what i want and leave”) and watch him “ascend” past the “diamonds in the trees” that sleep used to lure him in. But then at the very end vessel caves and screams (last breakdown of song) and not being able to leave, like many abused victims, can do nothing but lash out in anger (“YOU MAKE ME WISH I COULD DISSAPPEAR!”) saying how he cant leave, but he’s living in hell so he wishes he could just die.

Absolutely 100% agree with your assessment but I think it also has a double meaning. If I may. Iv just gotten into sleep token.
By double meaning is I think your right about Sleep and Vessel kinda dueling here. But I think it's also about a relationship with a real person not just The deity Sleep. The lyric "one eye on the door the other on the rail. Follow the scarlet trail and the last few drops from the holy grail." As well as the mention of "pink nails"
I think this person makes him want to run away or end it all but she uses self harm to manipulate vessel into staying and he gets sucked back in. Again just my thoughts. Great explanation again on your part.

If thats the case it would seem that the person who he describes now as sleep had to have had a complete God complex as a master manipulator. Cant imagine how brutal a relationship like that would be.
youve summarized the sleep token experience so well by pausing to read the lyrics, squinting, and going "...let him cook" because you need the whole picture
This band is really fantastic, and if you love following lyrics and finding meaning in them, I HIGHLY recommend starting at the beginning of their discography and going all the way through in chronological order. It will really pay off.
Also, Sleep Token fans are loyal af-that's why I recognize several of the people who have commented already, because they will watch all the reaction videos and become part of your fan base 😅

If you post it, the Sleep Token fans will come in hoards! For a lyrical person myself as well, I can get lost in Vessel's lyrics for hours and still find something new in them each time. Definitely worth the trip down the rabbit hole! If you want to stay in this album definitely recommend Granite, Aqua Regia and Apparition that are similar in this lane.
Sleep Token is a fantastic band to fall down the rabbit hole with. I would highly recommend Rain and Take Me Back to Eden. All of which are from the same album as Ascensionism.

i tried their 1st 2 albums/EPs and off all those songs i liked 1 song When The Bough Breaks. The others were not good to my ears, but this album seems very good to me.

Vessel (the vocalist) writes and records everything himself except the drums. The guy is a musical genius..
Alright I'm all for praising Vessel but that's nothing new. Many bands have the vocalist that are also the person who writes all the music and plays most of the instruments.
Johnny from Bilmuri, Caleb from Beartooth, Buster from Vildhjarta/Thrown, Ronnie from Falling In Reverse, Noah from Bad Omens, Landon from The Plot In You etc. That's just naming a few off the top of my head.. It's not being a "musical genius", they're just musically well rounded.

And he's sure as shit not a better instrumentalist than Landon Tewers or Buster Oldeholm. He has his strong points, that maybe peak above others that I've listed in certain areas, and is possibly more creative with genre blending than a number of those artists.. But there are definitely better all round musicians than him.
But hey, there's no point in trying to tell you that. Sleep Token fanboys simply can't be argued with if you're not telling them that Vessel is God's gift.

@@SpicyTortilla69 Oof, it takes a certain level of denial to make up shit about Noah using effects when singing live.. LOL! The only time they've ever used any effects, is purely stylistic, just like Vessel singing Ascensionism. I've seen him Live x4 times with zero effects and he put on a much better vocal performance than the x2 times I've seen ST live. Vessel can maybe edge Noah on the clean vocals, but Noah absolutely upstages Vessel when it comes to screams, which is enough to make him a better all round vocalist because he just has more range.
How do you mean Landon's writing isn't impactful? He's suffered a lifetime of abuse and trauma, and it shows through his music as many of his songs are either utterly heartbreaking or absolutely pissed with raw anger.
As far as Ronnie goes, I can't stand the guy. I hate him, I hate what he stands for and ultimately I hate his fans.. I put them in the same boat as Sleep Token fans who can do nothing but act like the front man is such a visionary and no one is as good as him. That being said, I can't deny that he's an extremely creative individual when it comes to blending genres (even though I might not like his songs) and is immensely talented.
I can handle people having different favourites. The world would be a boring place if we all liked the same thing. Take Me Back To Eden is probably one of the best albums of the year.. The only thing I hate, is fans who go overboard with praise, acting like their favourite band can do no wrong, or how the lead singer is a visionary and a genius.. As much as I loved TMBTE, I probably enjoyed Heavener by Invent Animate, Superbloom by Silent Planet or The Death We Seek by Currents, more.. But I'm not here saying OMG THEY ARE THE BEST OF ALL TIME, NO ONE CAN TOP THEM!! Because it's simply untrue. It's total teenage fangirl energy and it's cringey. People just need to learn to dish out praise more realistically, rather than acting like their favourite artist is vastly superior to everyone else just because they said so.
Sleep token is a group/ rabbit hole that is filled with amazing music and absolutely incredible lyricism and musicality. They defy typical genres and created their own style that consists of pretty much everything. Loved the reaction and the lyric breakdown! WORSHIP!
The more you listen the more you notice different things going on in the song. My favorite parts in this song are when he delivers the lines, "glitches in the code or gaps in a strange dream" there is subtle glitching effect on the vocal and then the bass drum skips one beat. Same effect when he says Digital Demons make the night feel heavenly.
Just masterclass in arrangements and production.

Sleep token has been the best musical discovery for me since deftones changed my life in 1997. It's incredible how the genre less approach from ST has been able to grab so many different people from so many different walks of life. I haven't heard a bad song from them so pick the next song randomly with confidence and don't ever think you have their sound pinned down.
Sleep token is like how an entity would like to present itself to multiple cultures in different appearances so that it’s worshiped by different parts of the world. But sleep token is worshipped by the world presenting themselves in different genres. They are extraordinary.
This whole album is a roller coaster of genres and emotions. Very different and new. A welcome addition to music overall.

As if this blend of music genres represents an emotion like a storytelling but with just the music and then they add the lyrics
The lyricism in Sleep Token is * chef's kiss * , if you love lyrics, you'll love them. There's a whole lore to dive into to help understand better as well, but honestly there are so many varied takes and interpretations on even the simplest sentences, you'll have some good fun! It's so hard to pick a song to suggest, but I'd love to see you react to Like That or High Water.

A little introduction to Sleep Token:
Sleep Token are a British band from London, formed in 2016. The group are an anonymous, masked collective led by a frontman using the name Vessel(the lead singer and primary songwriter of the band.) Vessel and ii(the drummer)are the only members of the band who have been credited as performers on Sleep Token's studio albums. ii is also the only member apart from Vessel who has been given songwriting credits. There are two more members that play bass(iii) and guitar(iv) when Sleep Token preforms live, and a few women who do live backing vocals known as the ’Vesselettes’ (hope I wrote that correctly).
They don’t really fit into any genre…
As for the lore, the band worships a deity by the name of Sleep, who is essentially omnipotent, everywhere at all times. Vessel discovered Sleep in a dream being promised magnificence in return for Vessel becoming a follower. Sleep Token’s songs are offerings to Sleep and depict Vessel’s relationship with them.
i know this comment is a few months old but i REALLY wanna clarify that the women are not called the vesselettes, and actually have been said to not like that name as it minimizes their identity and efforts. they're called the espera. not trying to be mean, just wanted to clarify!

Many people would not be as nice as you are.
Meaning wise I’m sure everyone has their interpretations but I take away that in the beginning she’s playing him. Using him for what she needs while he just wants to be loved. By the end verse he’s put everything together and turns the tables saying now I’ll take what I want and leave. There are so many layers lyrically to every one of their songs and it’s what keeps bringing me back for more. You always pick up something new with each listen.

I have loved Sleep Token for years and i often go on at my friends with my opinions on the songs! I am obsessed with the song writing, the lyrics.
If you have time, listen to all 3 albums back to back. The start of The Night Does Not Belong To God on album one, and the end of Euclid on album three blew my mind when I first made the connection.

Sleep Token are the best band I have ever come across and the recent album is definitely my AOTY! You should go down the rabbit hole now. They’re genre bending and use elements of everything from rock, metal, RnB, trap, hip hop, gospel, and more. Even if you don’t like one song don’t write them off as every song is different and as you can see from this one they switch up completely through the songs, also don’t be thrown off by some of them being 7-8 minutes long either as it goes by far too quickly. You should start at the beginning and work your way through as they tell a story and have call backs to a lot of them. The band are anonymous, I and others know who they are but won’t reveal out of respect to the band and fans but the singer goes by the moniker Vessel, drummer, who is a beast is II, bassist III and guitarist IV. From London UK. As far as their discography goes they brought out two EPs called One and Two, then 2 singles called Jaws and The Way That You Were, then the three albums Sundowning, The Place Will Become Your Tomb, then TMBTE (Take Me Back To Eden). They’ve done five covers that I’m aware of. One being Hey Ya by OutKast, I Wanna Dance With Somebody by Whitney Houston, Is It Really You? By Loathe and When The Party’s Over by Billie Eilish, Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen. His Vocal range I believe is B ♭2 to F#5 and he has a wonderful chest voice, head voice and scream. I have never hyper fixated on a band like I have with these! Loved the react and Will subscribe and hopefully see many more. 🖤

I would say that after listening to their entire discography many times over (they’re my favorite band) I still to this day find new meaning in their lyrics… there’s a lot of lore and a big story here that starts from their first single all the way to this last album. The three full length albums make up a trilogy, and I like to look at the singles and two EPs as prequels/prologues to the story. Highly recommend going through the whole thing start to finish
When vessel said, tell me, you’ve met me in past lives that was a very interesting use of autotune in a creative way, and not just to cover up people who have no talent. Sleep Token is fantastic because they combined so many different styles of music into one moment you’re listening to an R&B song next you listen to a metal song.
"You make me wish I could disappear" Then the song abruptly ends on an odd bar without resolution. Genius...

The meaning is difficult to decipher because Sleep Token incorporates a story throughout 3 albums, and even still the true meaning is elusive. IMO it's up to the listeners' interpretation. But this song blew me away on first listen, it has movements and reminds me of classical orchestra music in that regard... love it!

ST are masters at mixing genres. I hope you continue the journey. There are 3 albums in a trilogy and they tell a story. Also ep's One and Two singles called Jaws and The Way You Were. They fit into the story also.
Vessel actually uses auto tune as effect rather than letting it be his whole sound. It's a little taste of autotune here and there.

The Apparition and Rain are two you NEED to check out. They're arguably my favorites on the album, The Apparition is *kinda* similar to this song in terms of the song layout. And Rain doesn't focus much on anything heavy like breakdowns as much as just a general pop/metal mix of a vibe. It's quite a polar opposite from the other songs as far as lyrical meaning, diving more into the positive side.

It's always great to see someone with some level of musical appreciation hear a Sleep Token song for the first time - there's regular listeners, and then there are the ones who like to dig into the song. I think you'll get a kick out of this band based on your first time hearing them, they have such a diverse palette and Vessel is a masterful storyteller!
You'll likely get a lot of recommendations from their newest album, 'Take Me Back to Eden,' but I'll go out on a limb here and recommend a song from their second, 'This Place Will Become Your Tomb.' Definitely give 'The Love You Want' a listen - it also has a music video which correlates to the overall story!
By the way, it should be noted that the three albums they've released are a trilogy, all relating to the same story.
I have hears Sleep Token's two other albums/eps and am not a fan, but this album seems to be a banger!! shame this album is not on Bandcamp. This song here is not good, great, or a banger, but rather it is a masterpiece of sonic creativity. prove me wrong!!

Sort of a deep meaning but "diamonds in the trees pentagrams in the night sky" probably is talking about Venus, which makes a pentagram as it moves across the sky :) and Venus is all about love and war
sleep token reminds me of nu-metal of late 90's with bands like korn, papa roach, pod etc that had metal but rap mixed into it. Sleep token are bringing it all together just to make some great music
I interpret this as Vessel interacting with a deity personification of the 'man made god' the internet, and the realization that the only way to escape it is to ascend beyond those under its control. Hence the anonymous aspect of the band. The lore behind the gimmick is Vessel is exactly that, a vessel for the deity Sleep. Kinda fits in with the whole vibe the band has created imo. I think its interesting you brought up sacrifice because he kind of had to sacrifice his identity to make it big.
A tiny bit of context without too many spoilers: he's in love with a god named "Sleep" that he has trouble connecting with. Keep that in the back of your mind as you listen to their music
You really need to react to his cover of Hey Ya by Outcast. He makes Andres lyrics hit so much differently and really shine.
