  • John Lennon bought Dorinish Island off the Mayo coast, in 1967, and got planning permission from Mayo County Council to build a house there for himself and Yoko Ono. That planning permission had lapsed, but according to his lawyer, Michael Browne, he was looking into renewing it before he was shot.
Sid Rawle, (the King of the Hippies), tried to start a commune on the Island in 1970.
They left the Island in 1972.

I was there yesterday, catholic Ireland, such a shame, they meant well, but the island is so exposed, the amount of seals there must be alot of fish, but you couldn't live there

It does look very exposed. Very difficult to establish a tipi community on such a piece of land.

If it wasn't for John Lennon letting them use the island they would have stayed in the uk

Your statement makes no sense dude .
Lennon and Ono had a couple other places in the U.K. where they could live .
Lennon allowed Sid Rawle to use the island for a commune
because Lennon wasn't planning on using it for himself for years to come
and because Lennon supported the cause of Sid Rawle and his Digger Action Movement .

When John Lennon arrived by helicopter at Mulranny park hotel back in the day…they said the people arrived to see the helicopter not him or yoko
