Ben, I have an extensive history with sailing and have just found this video. The comments you received from a great many of the peanut gallery were quite comical to say the least. I laughed my you know what off at several of them. Port and starboard where switched but you know that by now. In answer to the many blueprint requests I strongly recommend Mystic Seaport as a source for thousands of original drawings. Add your own scale and start building! My choice was a two masted gaff schooner designed by Capt. R. D. (Pete) Culler. I have the actual hull at 47' in length and for my model I chose 1/10th scale and worked in metric units. Thanks so much for the fine efforts!
What a beautiful build -- just fantastic work. Thanks for sharing. Btw, you have her tack descriptors reversed in the video. At 4:07 she is on a starboard tack and at 4:35 she is on a port tack (wind coming from port).
You have done a wonderful job on this schooner. I have one that I race most week ends . But not as nice as yours . Mine is only 3 feet long OAL. And no Evilboy37 , they are made to sail on their side like that .
You can create your own scratch building plans by buying a set of plans from a smaller boat, such as Elsie or Gertrude Theabaud, on line and do a little scaling math. You need these views: body plan with half breadths, deck plan, and the sail plan. Take what you have to the office store and have them enlarged to the desired scale; I've used 1/4" to the foot. You can find accurately printed plates with all the requirements by Skeene or Chappelle. I've taken a plan of Elsie from a bound book and used the drawing and table of offsets (measurements) to build a 16 foot replica (yes, that big). Scratch building in the larger scales I believe is easier that the itty bitty scales; for one thing, the tools in an ordinary shop give you a better start. There are used Model Shipways plans available online that have details from the work of Chappelle. If you are stuck on the idea of cutting a page out of one of your prized books, just pick up a used copy online and an Exacto knife. To get a really good idea of the whole process in full scale, binge watch Leo Goolding's RUclips series on rebuilding the Tally Ho, paying particular attention to the vids on design and rigging. Check it out.
Ben- Hey it's Scott from the SOSS with the Happy Hunter and Brutus. Found your video after you told me about it at yestereday's sail. Great job, love the music.
She is a truly beautiful piece of work, mind you I think she would look better flying the Union Jack! 😊😊😊😊😊😊 I would love to know where to buy her as a kit!
Omw, so relaxing music watching this, calmness while building my boat aswell. This my next one. Pls tell me were i can get these plans so long. Great vid.👍👍
did anyone ever get a response if plans are available? such a great boat. over 200,000 views.wow! are their any plans out there close to this? or better yet a set of plans for bernard moitessier's "JOSHUA" or jean knockers design. I love these working ships.
What kind of servos/motors did you use for taking in sail line? Or how is that done in general? I haven't been able to find any helpful websites at all.
At present I am building and repairing sailing dinghies but I built models, up to 6ft, as a teenager. I am building a free sailer sandwich style yacht at present, a rehearsal I suppose for when increasing age will no longer allow me to build full size craft. Ironic really, I found I could paddle the 6ft topsail schooner hull, (FG) and my next boat was a 16ft ply pirogue. Regressing to a second childhood?
you got your tacks wrong! looking from the back to front: when the sails are on the left side you are on starboard, when the sails are on the right side you are on port. just had to point that out. great design looks really cool!
Beautiful, both the concept as well as the appearance. May I ask if this would be a so called "J-Boat"?. Talking about spirit, I wonder if there was Bourbon or Gin to be offered around those elegant decks. Now take the helm and fair winds Ladies and Lads.
No, it is not a J class yacht . This a Newfoundland schooner . a fishing boat of about the 1890's or 1920's . J class yachts were developed from this hull shape and raced in the 1930's for the America cup.
@@welshpete12 Thankyou Captain WP. I stumbled over a documentary on 'American Schooners' in the meantime to learn more about these fascinating designs. Seeing them in full fly is the most exhilarating analogy of the expression 'Fast & Bonnie' I happen to know. And to having learned from you that the most exclusive form of raceyacht was developed from a 'work horse' compliments that conception with plenty food for phantasie. :)
@yeehawwoohoo naw, the motor didn't ruin it. a lot of full scale sailer's have an auxiliary engine of some sort for docking and doldrum conditions. it's not like he's using it to putter around the pond. looks like if he ever engages it is just to bring it in. I'll allow it
@J3NNYVO What? That is as schooner as it gets..... It looks like an old Gloucester fishing schooner. If it had one mast.... then you may call it a gaff rigged sloop, but this boat is most certainly a schooner.
very nice schooner, reminds me of my schooner america, one metre! , they take a while to build, don't they, ! r/ c, is fun, to build, and sail,, gene k

Nice! Well built ! Funny look just like the Bluenose!? Flying American flag tho so maybe I'm mistaken. Beautiful boat!

I love the music. It was on Master and Commander movie. What is the title/ composer?
Nice build vid. Do you still happen to have the plans for this schooner? If not could you perhaps direct me to a place that does?
Super nice build. Just need to correct that when she was on a starboard tack you called it a port tack and visa versa
Ah , A messy workbench. The sign of a true boatbuilder/artist/ craftsman weather large or small vessels.
wow its so clean and neat very nice :)
She is a truly beautiful piece of work, mind you I think she would look better flying the Union Jack!

Beautiful boat. Can you give me a hint on the music in the background.

Beautiful schooner. Good job. Is it the Elsie? I met Walter P. and the Exxon tug. at Expo AMA 2018. I worked that tug. Nice photos.
Do you have plans for sale?
Thank you Bob Williams
is this the Bluenose from Taubman? The 40" set of plans?
Nice choice of Master and Commander music :)

I JUST LOVE THIS VID ...........AND MUSIC IS DOING MY HEAD IN ..........WHERES IT FROM !!!
Master and commander
awsome!
😮😮😍😍😍😍where can I buy this?
What scale is your schooner?
its just a safety measure so that you can retrieve your ship when all winds suddenly drop or a ship is going to sail closely to it
I am intrested in building Ships are there any classes that i can join
Hi, this is a good model of wooden ship, congratulations. May you please send me a copy of blueprints or give me some information to find it?
@yeehawwoohoo

I have to know what the music is ......it,s beautiful.
Boccherini: String Quintet In C, Op.30 no.6
YOU MADE ME JEALOUS! :(
can u pleased send me a copy of blueprints???? thanks
and how the motor was made pleaseeee!!!!!!
did U get blueprints?
hola amigo y los poanos de donde los sacaste
native Indian music
'
she's beautiful
The hull is nice and so is the music from Catain and Commander,
nice boat..
Oh my, that`s FINE !
Great !
You oughta make a ship that sailed on the great lakes after all Michigan is known for ship building and big, grand and old ships
Your tack is determined by which rail the breeze arrives, you have it backwards.
Boccherini!
Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World!
Von Voyage! Aechron!
you got port and starboard tack mixed
Pictures? Really??? Down arrow until we see video.
I feel noble envy
No vídeo?🙅
who is she?? theabauld.. or Columbia? the lines look alittle like ford.. but the sails are wrong for ford... you got agreat boat there
***** The bluenose was a grand banks schooner.
My sailing friend, TouTube is for movies.
Queria montar um ...mais queria um passo a passo asim
Umm, that was port tack...
Looks an awful lot like the Bluenose.
sloops definitely only have one mast.
that's more like a sloop not a schooner
it kept looking like it was going to capsize
SOOPER
I now have to spend lots of money on this. Like now.
"it's bad Teresa", "he went down"
