I liked that they made Julie a genuinely nice girl, and never tried to make her randomly turn nasty to pave the way for Ross and Rachel. Instead, the main conflict is Rachel pining over Ross, now that he's in a relationship.
Certainly worked out better than Ross's penultimate romance...

you have not watched the show - rachel did not know ross liked her - if he asked her out instead of being wimp she would be with him - rachel never did anything to hurt ross - people like always need to blame the female characters - it is if you did not watch the show - i am guy so i am not bias - so now what
This one was my first heartbreak with the series, such amazing acting from both Ross and Rachel. In the end you can just tell how heartbroken Rachel is and she just tries to hold it in. Love the finale and love your reactions Nick and Cody!

So, Friends debut fall of '94 and was a breakout hit pretty much immediately and the cliffhanger season one finale aired May '95. During the show's summer hiatus, all six cast members spent that time capitalizing on their new-found juice in the industry and did movie projects. Meanwhile, the show went into reruns and this is when people who missed the series during it's original airing discovered it. That's when Friends, the entire cast and every about them and the show entered the zeighest, becoming a national phenomenon. Suddenly, they were all on every magazine cover, tabloid front page, on talk shows, etc. When the first season ended, it was the number one rated hot new show. But, by the fall of '95 when they returned to start the second season of Friends, they were all household names. I didn't start watching the show till that second season yet even I knew who they all were. It was nuts. They left for summer break as popular new actors on a hit show and returned five months later as rock stars from Mars. SPOILER: The show returns hitting the ground running picking up right where we left off at the end of season one. Many critics at the time predicted the show would have a sophomore slump and experience a major backlash for the show's unparalleled meteoric rise into the pop culture stratosphere. Many predicted the second season would never match the quality and heights of the first. Hindsight being 20/20, not only did season two go on to match and exceed season one on every creative level, some of the show's strongest, most quoted episodes and series defining moments come from this second season. They actually leveled up.

I HATED what they let Susan and Carol get away with bc they're lesbians. They had an affair, then, at this point, have only been together less than a year, it's not her kid and she's making decisions about the kid? Absolutely not. If they were a regular male/female couple and Susan was some dude Carol cheated with, the audience wouldn't be expected to take any of this.
Thank you! I hate Susan because she makes Ross look like the bad guy that stole Carol from her. Seriously, Susan is such a pain. Carol betrayed Ross in the worst possible way.

Monica & Ethan didn’t break any laws as he was legal per New York law, but barely as the age of consent is 17. Monica was upset by how close it was to being illegal and references how it would be in 48 other states so it’s likely she feels like she did something illegal/wrong.
Thanks so much for explaining!! Think it’s just because we both live in states where it’s 18 for consent we didn’t think of that haha.

You may have figured this out already but, for future reference on the ages of the friends (since you were surprised by Monica's age), in season 1 the friends are all basically meant to be between 25-27. It's later established that Rachel is the youngest but, the difference between them all is only meant to be a couple years. The actors that played the characters were mostly around that age as well but, funnily enough, one of the exceptions is Courtney Cox (who played Monica)! You were right, she was actually 30 here! She and Lisa Kudrow (who played Phoebe) were the only two Friends actors that were in their 30s when the show started. Everyone else was pretty much playing their actual age. Only other slight difference is that Matthew Perry (who played Chandler) was a teeny tiny bit younger than Chandler was meant to be. In reality, he was only 25 and the youngest of the cast by a couple months, while Chandler is supposed to be the same age as Ross (i.e. a couple years older than Rachel and Monica).

The one thing that I do that you guys don’t know that I do is that I rewatch all of your videos all the way back to the beginning of the season once you finished the season. It’s just something to keep me from getting bored to death in the silence of me working my job and I love it every day. The show is awesome, you guys are awesome, love you both.

"Its her moment too!" No. It's not. It's not her kid. She's the person Carol cheated on Ross with and she's only been in Carol's life for like less than a year. It's NOT her moment too. If she was a guy Carol cheated with, you would NOT be saying that.
You seem to forget, Carol is married to Susan, so it is Susan’s moment as well. Not as big as Ross or Carol, they are the parents, but she is now going to be the stepmother. She will be in the child’s life in a significant way, I agree Susan isn’t as big as the actually parents being Ross and Carol. But you can’t deny she is an important person in that child’s life and it is most definitely her moment as well.
I actually think Susan is the worst. Just like the comment said she cheated on Ross with her, given that she definitely is apart of this child’s life. If we are being realistic in this situation man or woman, the stepparent would be saying it’s their moment too. Not to the degree of the original parents but a step parent who is there as the child is born is most definitely like a third parent to them and the moment is huge for them as well. Not to be rude but seems you are bringing personal bias into this.

You can tell this show was pre-9/11 because not only will you see the twin towers every so often when they show the New York skyline, but Rachel was able to go directly to the gate without a boarding pass like it was no big deal

Guys, I'm the same age as the cast. All of us single women in the 90s wanted to marry a doctor or a lawyer. Rachel is normal and being just like I was, and all the rest of us single gals back then.

Susan should NOT be involved in the naming of the baby. Ross isn't an absent father, he is making an effort to be involved. Seriously, if Susan was a new male partner, people would be up in arms about ross's rights as a father, but because she is a lesbian partner, we are supposed to just accept this mistreatment of ross.
It's great that she wants to HELP the woman she loves look after her child but she needs to learn the boundaries here in the fact that she is a step parent not a bio parent, it would be different if ross was an absent father who wanted nothing to do with the baby but he's OBVIOUSLY not.

This is a little known fact but, even if Ethan is 17 (as it is implied), Monica would not actually have been in any legal trouble for sleeping with him thanks to the fact that they were both living in New York state. In New York, the age of consent is actually 17, not 18 as people often assume. It's kinda funny, since so many movie/TV productions are based out of California and the age of consent is 18 there, most people are led to believe that's the case across the entire US. In reality, each state has its own very specific laws about it and it varies between 16-18 (some states also have max age difference regulations but, New York is not one of them). So, yeah, Monica actually could've kept dating Ethan if she'd really wanted to but, obviously, the age difference just made her way too uncomfortable. In other words, she wasn't actually doing anything illegal; it was just "icky". 😂

I see some people give Ross a hard time for sometimes showing frustration towards Carol and Susan. But honestly who can blame a man for being frustrated to have to see his exwife be with someone else and they sometimes go behind his back on decisions about his son like choosing the name without him. And he is right. At the end Coral and Susan get to take Ben home and Ross only gets him in moments but they get him everyday

Cody, hate to say it but.... you do look 27... lol. (not that its a bad thing, i think a lot of people could pass for 25-35 easy...)
But it is weird that they were in their late 20s in these episodes. Also the hospital ep was the original series finale but they didn't want the show to be only about the baby so they added another.
Ross got such a thoughtful gift for Rachel awwww. I am glad that Chandler finally blurted out his feelings, it was about time. It was cute that Rachel tried to reach him at the airport (such foreshadowing to the series finale). It sucks he came back with a girlfriend so quickly!
Season 1 is great but the future seasons are way better! My fav eps of season 1 were the Blackout episode, the Pilot, The Thanksgiving Ep, The Poker ep, the Ross+Rachel laundry ep and the New Years ep. Overall I'd prob. rate the first season a low 8. It was really good, but had room for improvement.
