Hi young man. looks like you need to add double-de-clutching to your skills to save the gear teeth and don't forget to keep those thumbs out of the steering wheel! cheers Charles PS I have been driving mine every day since 1977.
Bag of cats completely hilarious! Had to double clutch and no one needs do downshift to first gear. I would occasionally into second but it was really more showing away.
The blood line stopped when defenders stopped. There’s more in common with a 49 80” and a Ford ranger or Isuzu trooper than the “ landrover “ “ defender”
Thank you England and Brits. I have a 2A that I am going to get back on the road but these are very strange times. Hold the line. Freedom is worth defending.
2 years on, hope you still have your 2A. I have a 1966 88”. It’s a rolling hobby restoration. It was still a work horse on a cattle ranch until I bought it last year. Most difficult thing I’ve ever driven and I love it! Cheers!
Early Series 1 was permanent four wheel drive with a freewheel to automatically disengage the front axle on the overrun. Red lever is High/Low selection and there would be a ring pull in the floor which locked the freewheel thus providing full four wheel drive. This arrangement was replaced in 1950 by the familiar red and yellow lever, switchable two/four wheel drive used until the 90/110 vehicles arrived.
The series one 80" is the REAL Land Rover, The new "Defender is a piece of over complicated modern crap and stands no chance of being around for a fraction of the time that this 80" and numerous others of it's ilk have been.

Door tops need their canvas strip and rubber seal fitting and it makes a world of difference

49 all day long new defender looks like a effing DACIA
Absolutely Rob....
I knew it reminded me of something!
Looks like a roided out Skoda yeti 😆

i love the new defender and the series 1
One is pure class, the other one isn't.
The series 1 is 'An iconic shape,' whereas the new Defender is an amorphourus blob.
Exactly, but LR marketing is trying really hard 🤣

You are correct ,I have a mk 1 Ranger and it is deffo closer related. ( I have a LR 80" as well )
My dream landrover
I would rather have a series 1.
Not sure where the 'meets' comes from. THere is no more lineage since LR stopped the Def in 2016
I've got a 49 8o plush 57 109 and 1990 110 station wagon
This new Defender is a total BAD JOKE.
"Hello, grandson."
"Hi, Grandpa."

One is gentleman’s capable of reader, the other is a Harrogate chav pug carrying van for fish lipped women.
I'm pretty sure that the series 1 isn't permanent four wheel drive

The new Defender is not British.
