I love Marva Collins, for the work she did, and Cicely Tyson for how she beautifully played her. They should give Marva Collins, Teacher of the Century. She did remarkable work, and is a role model, to me. A very good one.

“Have courage for the great sorrows of life and patience for the small ones; and when you have laboriously accomplished your daily task, go to sleep in peace. God is awake.” ― Victor Hugo I love this movie it's truly emotional and teaches a lot of moral lessons.
Takeaways of the amazing Teaching Formula Attitude: 1. Love the kids 2. Love the kids so much that you want them to be well-educated 3. Love the kids so much that you want them to have good well-being and faith 4. Kids makes no mistakes, they try Methods: 1. Instill faith into kids - "I am the most important kid in the world" - "The most important moment is now" - "I am going to change tomorrow, by making good use of today" - "I am not a local kid; I am a citizen of the world" 2. Learn from Great Classics and Heros 3. Understand their emotions - eg. "You don't look bored, you look angry; When I am angry, I would cry too." - eg. "I am sometimes scared too; When I am scared, I remind me of the saying..." Techniques 1. Learn English with Phonics 2. Experimental/Situational Learning eg. Going to Chicago Exchange eg. Learn about Venice Merchant, then do Maths, Venice Geographic location, Gold Price, Spelling of words, etc. Review of the example: ruclips.net/video/fK7GUSISFjY/видео.html 38:40-56:30
Wow! I am truly moved by this movie. Mrs. Collins marriage is one that all should strive for. The drive, passion, desire, and love help make her school a success. Very rare to find these days. Powerful movie!
What's rather sad is that (according to Wikipedia) "Collins and her daughter ran the school for more than 30 years until it closed in 2008 due to lack of sufficient enrollment and funding." I'd like to thank the owner of this RUclips channel for uploading this movie thereby making it publicly accessible. I think I needed to hear the quote at 12:25 in the wee hours of the morning: “Quitting did not build the Sears tower. Nor did it write the Magna Carta.”
She also taught the importance of self respect and the joy of achievement despite circumstances. Reminds me of Dr. Ben Carson. What a wonderful inspiration.
If only all of our teachers could be like Marva! Teaching is one of the most important jobs that exists and yet teachers are unappreciated, underpaid and are rarely recognized for their work. I know for me I had a few who truly changed the path of my life for the better. I will always be thankful for them. Great movie!
What a heartfelt movie to inspire teachers who desire to make a difference in childrens lives. If teachers desire to make a difference in the lives of children...the world would be a better place. This movie inspires me to want to make a difference. Thank you Mrs. Collins

“Have courage for the great sorrows of life and patience for the small ones; and when you have laboriously accomplished your daily task, go to sleep in peace. God is awake.”
― Victor Hugo
I love this movie it's truly emotional and teaches a lot of moral lessons.
I got teary-eyed watching this part! Whew!

This movie made me so emotional. To have a teacher to care like that is a blessing. I only wish I had a teacher like her coming up.
What a beautiful and inspirational story!!!❤❤❤
Then it was probably a lot to rent or buy a building.
My grandparents were born then so this is probably something that may have been familiar to them.
The black community stopped wanting excellence for their young and succumbed to victimization and blame. That"s why enrollment dried up.
Amazing woman...she really reflected the love, compassion and patience of Christ. Bought tears to my eyes.
RIP CECILY TYSON Thank you for playing roles that uplift black woman with style dignity and grace
I was deeply inspired by the movie. As an educator that's what I strive to be, like Marva Collins.
Praise the Lord for dedicated teachers like Marva Collins
What a heartfelt movie to inspire teachers who desire to make a difference in childrens lives. If teachers desire to make a difference in the lives of children...the world would be a better place. This movie inspires me to want to make a difference. Thank you Mrs. Collins

This is one of the most inspiring movies. The most dedicated teacher with high hopes, patients, love and motivation. We find them very rare in the universe.
You got that right. We need a lot of teachers like her in every school around the world now
Can you help me if you know the name of the teacher who says "why do you bother Mrs. Collins? The kid`s nothing but trouble"?
I mean what's his name in this movie?
what an Actress Cicely Tyson was. ❤❤❤❤RIP. A TRUE AFRICAN QUEEN 🙏🙏🙏🙏💯
I have not heard of Mrs Marva Collins. I really enjoyed watching this movie it's very motivating movie. Need more teachers like this.
Marva Collins,a remarkable woman indeed the passion was there when you put your heart in it, it will take you anywhere.
Took me 23 years to look her up . My old elementary teacher use to quote her all the time!
Why would it takes 23 years to look up information? What do you mean by that?
My Teacher Miss Montgomery use to make us recite a poem by her everyday
@Michelle-pn9xt I assume they didn't have access to the Internet at the time. We only got Internet in 1996. Given this story is from the late 70's the OP could have been educated in the 80's,90's or early 00's and only thereafter could find out more information
I can watch it again and again. My parents were from Chicago, and I was 9-10yrs old when she opened in 81' wish I had the opportunity.
I was so taken back by this woman's determination and drive she had for all the children in her community.
