One time, after standing right in front of the register for 15 minutes, I got sick of waiting to be recognized by the employee looking at her phone and left the store with what I was planning to purchase (but not before I took a shot of the employee). The next day I called and asked another employee (assistant manager) how much tax would be on a certain amount and what the owner's name was. I mailed the owner cash for my purchases (including tax) along with printouts of the photos of the zombie cashier and the items (with their UPCs), and a nice letter thanking him for the new self checkout/ honor system they have. I never saw that employee any of the times I went back to that store.
