This guy's vocals just blow me away. The first time I heard him..... I thought it was like 3 different people....

Matisyahu, I saw an interview you did where a Rabbi therapist was talking to you about kabbalah and he said the world is a dark circle with light around it. I want to ask you to envision the opposite. You don't want a black circle in the center with light around it, a "black heart" so to speak. When man fell in the garden he extinguished he light and that's what made him black or dark inside. God's light in him had been put out and he went dark. You want to reverse it though from the fallen nature of a black heart to a redeemed nature of light in your heart in your center "teach me to love" love is that light. You want to reverse it. God's throne is the light and the love and it is your center and your core, then the darkness gets cast out and is outside of the light. You don't live in darkness or dwell in it. The darkness is then outside of you because you are living in and are dwelling in the light. You see the darkness outside of you but it doesn't touch you or phase you. If your heart is black or if you are thinking that we have a black center like that Rabbi therapist from kabbalah was telling you, I ask you to reconsider. We do have a black heart in our fallen nature but we don't want to stay there. We want our dark and black heart to become God's heart of light and love and the darkness is outside of the light center, not the other way around that I heard you say in your past interview. I bought this CD 3or4 years ago and I don't know why im in love with it oh because of lion with out a crown
Is it "Double rainbow, sly in the sky," or "Double rainbow, sign in the sky"? My inner voice wants to sing, "sign in the sky," in spite of the lyrics. How peculiar and wonderful that it flows with sense, all the same. That's truly rich.

The one thing I loooovvvvee so much about Matisyahu is how he can portray the human condition (in respect to God) so well: not just the "oh God, you're awesome" of many gospel songs, but more like, "Dear God, we suck! but You're awesome. Help!" a story in a song. ^_^
I always enjoy analyzing his songs and asking God what He wants me to take out of it because I think there's soooo much fruit...but I gotta admit, of all his albums so far, I think this one has caused me to have to dig even deeper into my own life, and asking Him what He'll show me.
In short: Just wanted to say Thank you Matis for the work you do. I enjoy and appreciate what you do. Keep up the richness and depth...regardless if I understand it or not. >.<
P.S. This is one of the songs I THINK I'm getting there. haha.

I love this song! It has a similar sound as Sizzla. Matisyahu got it right when he was telling Drake to bring something new instead of being boastful. Music creates ear worms and gets stuck on repeat in our heads. Can you imagine how many people go around singing non-valued lyrics in their heads all day long not realizing how powerful each thought is and each word spoken is? If I have one of Matisyahu's lyrics in my head, it is closer to a prayer than anything else. :o)p
Sizzla is one of Matis' greatest influences.
