Game is going for realism so it is super risky if you try to fight someone off with an axe within a breath's distance, especially someone who is trying to actively bite you. That's just how it is, keep them at arm's length at east.
I have a soft spot for sandbox permadeath games going back to "Haven and Hearth" days. I think Project Zomboid finds the perfect balance between putting substantial weight for each decision while not making each death so punishing that players give up. well put! i remember we had countless times we decided to embark on a mission of some sort and those decisions would quite literally lead to life and death. it was punishing for sure, but then we'd always have follow-up missions to recover our lost loot

i definitely think multiplayer makes it much better (and they have an NPC patch coming soon too). if u ever need ppl, might be down to play!
