Platinuming both Hotline Miami games is my personal greatest gaming achievement and it was hell. I remember just barely being able to beat the second game and then the devastating realisation that there was a hard mode. I will never, ever go through and A+ those levels.

Boutta spit some nerd shit as a HLM 2 speedrunner: A lot of your issues with HLM 2’s levels I do think are partially skill issues, but it’s worth noting that getting A+ on every level is actually much easier than you might think because of how the combo calculation works. Basically the point you get from a combo is (x^2 + x) * 250. To put this in simpler terms, the combo amount multiplied by itself plus one, then multiplied by 250. So if you have a combo of 20, the score would be 20*21*250, or 105,000 points. Carrying combos between floors is pretty easy if you kill an enemy right next to the entrance to the next floor. Obviously this takes a little bit of setup, but it’s nothing that wouldn’t be manageable if you have the skill to full combo rooms. So let’s say we have a floor with 15 enemies and a floor with 20. Full comboing each floor separately grants a total of 165,000 points, 60k from the 15, and 105k from the 20. But if instead you get a combo of 10 and a combo of 25 by carrying a 5x combo into the next floor, you get a total of 190k points. That extra 25k is often enough to push you to an A+ rank. The more lopsided your combo multipliers, the higher your score. And if you can manage to combine both rooms into 1 combo, you’ll get an incredible 315k. HLM’s scoring system is less about thinking of each room individually, and more about the whole level. Obv this isn’t much help now that you’ve already done this, but for anyone else, I guess take this as a tip. And to be clear, I do think this game is a bit too hard, but I feel like a lot of people exaggerate the difficulty because they wanted more of HLM1 and not a different style of gameplay, which is valid but feels reductive.
You don't even have to bother with carrying combos, I'm pretty sure I didn't carry a combo between floors a single time when getting my A+ on HM2. You just have to full combo each floor, which means trying to find the best route through the floor, either by watching someone else do it and emulating, or just winging it.
Imo the game hits just the difficulty sweet spot. If you play the second game it's expected for you to have already beaten the first game. A+ on every level (on normal) wasn't all that hard, and hard mode does a great thing by mirroring every map. All in all a smoother experience than the first game and I'd say even more enjoyable ☝️🤓
I completed HLM 2 entirely, beat A+ and hard mode, then I looked up into achievements section hoping that there's only a few more kills to get genocide. What I saw just made me sad: 9840/50000. So I'm still hindered whether to complete it or not
There is an exploit if u want a shortcut: ur spawnpoint for ur restarts is set like 1-2s after you startet, so in a specific lvl (cant remember rn) u can start, kill as many as you can before the spawnpoint is set and then spam r because each restart those kills instantly happen again. I did the achivement in ca 2h that way, while watching yt.
@@mCharly15m the level you're talking about is "First blood"(Richter's first level). That trick is already fixed. I tried spamming r, and when I checked kills in achievement it only count kills from first trial, so all is left is just stoically killing everyone each time after restart

Some tips for any future playthroughs and for anyone who's going to play this, dont be afraid to die. You're going to die a lot. In order to win and make A+ easier, you gotta play like a lunatic. Kill fast, run through each room quickly, and just overall have a huge disregard for your life (in game). Its difficult at first but when you get it down and master the gameplay loop, its so much more fun and easier. Hopefully someone finds this helpful
Hotline Miami is the only game series I’ve ever felt like I was so out of my depth that I had to physically take a break, just for the next run to be the single closest moment to god hood as I perfect combo the whole level

You see, you can get both the A+ and hardmode achievements in one play through with the small cost of your sanity. That’s what I’m about to do. Plus it will help me complete the genocide achievement in a less mundane way.
Hotline Miami is truly THE worst singleplayer experience I've ever had. Such nauseatingly flashy visuals, randomness of the AI and weaponry, extreme speed of encounters paired with a broken controller + 0.5 sec input delay, etc. etc. I strongly suggest you to NEVER touch it unless you have PERFECT neurohealth, a lot of patience and a PC. The only redeeming quality was the music
If a Hotline Miami 3 DOESN'T HAPPEN, they should make the Genocide trophy at least 100.000 kills. I have 400 hours on both PC and console in HM2 and don't know how much i've killed. Help me devs (plus i think custom levels count? If they want to torture players with an achievement that shows how much time you wasted...100k kills lol)
Full respect to the developers, if I remember correctly, One of their mothers had passed during the making of the game involving the mother cutscenes which make you really appreciate the game more because I can’t imagine trying to finish a game with that going on, beautiful game
Hotline Miami 1 was my first platinum, it’s wasn’t too bad. Hotline Miami 2 took my about a year and a half of on an off play, mainly because I took a 7 month break after trying takeover on hard mode, I came back to the game last October and I finished the game with relative ease. Persistence is the key to hlm2’s platinum
I've S ranked every level where it's possible on HM2. however I will never EVER fucking try to S rank every level on hard mode. Beating the level on Hard may as well be counted as getting an SSS rank on the original level.

Genocide was so shitty for me that instead of grinding I made the executive decision to try and A+ all Hard mode levels until it comes naturally. It popped somewhere in the 2nd or 3rd act I think but at that point I was too far gone so I A+ the whole thing anyways. Matter of fact I have an S on most of the hardest levels barring takeover I believe cause it's just so hard to full clear stages
I gave up on hard mode A+'s, god forbid S's. I can't even S Final Cut, Moving Up, or the entirety of Act 5 on normal. A+'s on normal were relatively easy, but yeah Genocide is easily the worst one. (I say this as someone who has perfected both games on PC, PS4, and PS5)

i once did takeover with the dirty hands, 1 dog got bugged behind the fountain and i had to restart after 50 minutes, then do it again and the dogs got bugged again but luckily i could grab them through the wall this time. last time the dog was out of reach. i tried getting him to chase me but he wouldnt.

I got the platinum for Hotline Miami 1. Fun thing was that the window trophy was bugged for months before it came out, so i was busting my ass trying to get the plat only to hit a wall until the update dropped. Painful.

The genocide trophy is really the only one holding me back from getting the platinum. The worst part is that I'm playing on ps vita so I have no way to know how much of them I killed so I'm just doing the first blood mission 10/20 times every once in a while

Release’s first two real rooms are super close quarters by hlm2 standards and one of the rioters who gets shot in the hallway can carry a glass shard which swings super fast. What I did was basically just run in and never stopped swinging and bing bang boom-30 combo!
30:30 you can cheese the Dead Silent achievement "beat the subway level without the gang leader ever spotting you" by just going violent and shooting him at the start of the level
I just recently made two videos where I played every level between the two games in chronological order so watching this was really fun since the games are still fresh in my mind. I love Hotline Miami 2 so much and I've played it so much that to me it's the easier game of the two.

Gotta say that's pretty impressive. I personally managed to finish both games without dying, and I can't really explain why, but when I did, I just uninstalled the games and never touched them again since. So i guess that not all objectives are worth achieving.

Release’s first two real rooms are super close quarters by hlm2 standards and one of the rioters who gets shot in the hallway can carry a glass shard which swings super fast. What I did was basically just run in and never stopped swinging and bing bang boom-30 combo!

I just recently made two videos where I played every level between the two games in chronological order so watching this was really fun since the games are still fresh in my mind. I love Hotline Miami 2 so much and I've played it so much that to me it's the easier game of the two.
