Doesn’t matter who did first without each other they would have been dead
A Bee keeper and a Sherpa. Absolutely amazing. These too have more balls than anyone on this earth.
Good lord in heaven, why people would make such a big deal out of who reached it first is mind boggling. Hillary technically made it first, probably by a whopping 3 or 4 minutes. But Tenzing is the first photographed human being on Chomolungma (mt.everest). Now let them rest in peace.
That is a pretty amazing revelation about life in general to see this documentary after having seen Hillary's 1.5 hour interview and other interview he made then seeing this, it's like seeing life from two perspective and i don't quite think i have ever had that opportunity in life. You always hear one account but here having seen several you realize life is quite a lonely thing, even if you become the most famous person in your own country you can still end up alone without true good friends and unhappy like Tenzing. Hillary and other brits still had the british raj mentality in their head to treat the Nepalese as colonized subjects. It is kind of reassuring for us who have not done such great deeds in life as climbing everest to see that even those who did, are still strangers to each others and life is only really what you make of it behind closed doors, and success can be a curse, not a blessing.
Well you're pretty far off on that, Hillary was not a Brit he was a New Zealander, as such he didn't have any of that colonial attitude nonsense you think he did.
Think about who Hunt picked as the first summit team and that'll tell you what he thought of Hillary, he tried putting a Brit on top first and when that didn't work out he had to go with Hillary and Tenzing, and don't you doubt for one second that Hillary didn't know that, that's exactly why he'd never give the empire what they wanted by saying he stepped on top first, it didn't sit well with them and he knew it, it was his way of poking the empire in it's eye for treating him and everyone else in New Zealand like second class citizens, just like they do with everyone that's a part of the empire but isn't English.
@@dukecraig2402 Well i want to believe that and it is true to some extend but it remains that Aussies, Kiwis and Anglo Canadian settlers are all rooted in English culture even if they criticize the old england.
I take for best example the Indians who have been ruthlessly exploited, ignored and made poorer by 200 years of english occupation and exploitation of resources and yet what you will find in the most educated Indians mentality some of the same english snobbery and abject behavior they absorbed from their old enemy.
It's also the story of the child with an abusive parent who grow up to be the same with his own kids. So i agree Kiwis are much better in that regard but you cannot entirely dilute the original anglo colonial ruthless character.
A truly excellent documentary. Thank you so much.
A well-done documentary. Thank you!!!
Thank you.
I didn’t realise till the end credits that the narrator was Manuel from Fawlty Towers 😃 Andrew Sachs
@Dee Rawler Que ? 🙃
I was just thinking what a lovely voice he has, and wondering who he was!
And this is why Hillary is on our $5 note 🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿
Thank you very much :-)
Hillary was a New Zealander … not English or Brit … he was a subject of the British empire … both do not reach the top without each other’s help …. It’s always the politicians and some of the subjects that make a big deal out of who’s
1st …. From what I remember reading and other docs …. Both said the other was 1st and both had great respect for each other……then of course the British empire demanded it be Hillary …. Both guys were low key ……. what counts was their friendship … & both said the other on was 1st … one does not reach without the other… 🙏🏻
Damn the swiss guy was so cool, imagine if they didn't had that storm stop them at only 800 m from the top. History would had been different. Is so sad to see the difference between than and now with the tourist traffic jams, all the deads and the garbage left from decades. How much pure It was, basically untouched, there were already few deads here and there like mallory that wen in the 30s or something, only to be found after 70 years or something.
Not 800 meters mate. 800feet. Only 245 meters from the summit.
@@GurwinderSingh-xk5fb sorry, i keep forgetting to change from that shit feet system thing, i'm italian so i'm used to use meters and i have to say i can't understand why americans just don't switch to meters, is more precise than feet but idk
@@bepinkfloyd814 feet are more precise, think about it.
M&I FIRST TO SUMMIT EVEREST ON JUNE 8th 1924
I really love to think that they did!
Oh wow, you should be able to make a fortune with that information, why have you kept quiet about it all these years?
Hillsry knew respect to world dynamics giving India sherpa to be first to summit Everest after all they made it happen(sherpas)for others as well! It was to happen how Hillary wanted it!
The man was an arrogant Kiwi
The narrator with kinda Indian accent is ranjit (Albert moses) from "Mind your language"
Credits say Andrew Sachs, Manuel from Faulty Towers
nice day
....couple of badasses
Asian trick the British for the first time😅😅 well done tenzin !!
Yep, well done when he wrote his book and said it was Hillary who stepped on top first.
Learn to cope with it, that's when you'll grow up and quit being childish.
if it wasnt for america, ya'll be speaking Geman on Mt Everest.
Lol Heil Everest
No wrong!!! Americans were snoozing and hoping that they never have to fight that war and in the meantime N_zis took over most of the europe and were bombing UK daily for months. It was actually the Russian men and women who fought the Germans for years and then defeated them. You seriously have to read some actual history books.
@@noallegiances8676 It was the Americans who supplied everything from planes, tanks, tractors, trucks and even military boots under lend lease to the Russians without which they stood no chance of pushing the Germans from the east. So yeah you need to sit down and study more.
The country of India claimed Tenseng for political reasons and international bragging reasons. Yet they totally forgot about him in his time of need during his elderly days. Tenseng didn’t get financial support from either India or Nepal.
Pretty twisted that British claim Mount Everest as theirs. It goes without saying that it belongs to the Tibetan and Nepalese people. What is your located in your back yard belongs to you.
There was a time the British thought everything was there’s one of the most greedy and selfish government in the world more than half the castles and cathedrals most of the parliaments and mansions and iconic listed buildings are built from proceeds of crime slavery murder extortion and colonialism
anglo saxons!
I have the same feelings regarding this
Absolutely it goes without saying. That’s like me coming into your house and claiming that your television is mine 😂 bad example but very easy to understand
I just see two Legends pushing the boundaries. Hillary and Tenzing. Two mates killing it
Tenzing's story saddens me. A man who accomplished great things, but it seems for whom the toll and pressures of his accomplishments were too great. What he did, first or second to the summit, it does not matter. What he did was remarkable.
I know the name. Tenzing was great
Wow, glad i found this different more in-dept documentary of the 1953 Everest expedition.
So Tenzing was the real hero of it all. His own climb partner tried to discredit him in his book, yet he gave hillary his credit by answering who climbed first in his book.
Tenzing is the real gentleman.
Hillary never tried to discredit him, he refused for years to say he stepped on top first because he didn't want to put himself ahead of Tenzing even though it was true.
Cudos to Tenzing for saying it was Hillary who stepped on top first in his book but it remained a mystery to the whole world up until that point because Hillary would never put himself ahead of Tenzing.
Hillary's a hero for never putting himself ahead of Tenzing and Tenzing's a hero for saying Hillary was first when he wrote his book.
I don't know where you get this nonsense about Hillary discrediting Tenzing but it's nonsense.
Mt.Everest belongs to Nepal. Tenzing Norgay Sherpa was Nepali. Lord Buddha was born in Nepal 🇳🇵 🙏 but they conquer the Everest together. Mt.Everest top was not the place to teach Tenzing that how to take a photograph of Sir Edmund Hillary hats off to Tenzing and Edmund.
Everest belongs to the earth...!
Sounds like Hillary threw Tenzing under the bus. I bet Tenzing was the first one to summit
No sir Hillary was a honourable man he didn’t say a word both of them stayed silent it was the press and newscasters that had other motives such as race and self aggrandisement until his dying day Hillary stayed quiet and tenzing may still be alive although no I think he’s died now too
Rest in peace sir Edmund Hillary and sir tenzing norguay
yeah right
Great, well-done documentary.
Grretings from Brazil.
Jorge
They only succeeded because of each other's company, they compiimented each other
Good job, good info..... May Allah bless Tenzing and Hillary. I think Tenzing the first man arrived at the Everest Summit. Congratulations to Tenzing and Hillary. From Malaysia with Love.
i think evel knievel could make it to the summit in his rocket. any thoughts??
Tenzing was the first one to Sumit rest is all is good bs...
Wow, nefolis were extra nefolis back then and indian godi media was extra godi media back then.
These men have climbed a mountain and are praised for it, l preach the gospel and am scorned.
Study the book of Isaiah
The gospels said that would happen.
