Good lord in heaven, why people would make such a big deal out of who reached it first is mind boggling. Hillary technically made it first, probably by a whopping 3 or 4 minutes. But Tenzing is the first photographed human being on Chomolungma (mt.everest). Now let them rest in peace.

That is a pretty amazing revelation about life in general to see this documentary after having seen Hillary's 1.5 hour interview and other interview he made then seeing this, it's like seeing life from two perspective and i don't quite think i have ever had that opportunity in life. You always hear one account but here having seen several you realize life is quite a lonely thing, even if you become the most famous person in your own country you can still end up alone without true good friends and unhappy like Tenzing. Hillary and other brits still had the british raj mentality in their head to treat the Nepalese as colonized subjects. It is kind of reassuring for us who have not done such great deeds in life as climbing everest to see that even those who did, are still strangers to each others and life is only really what you make of it behind closed doors, and success can be a curse, not a blessing.

Well you're pretty far off on that, Hillary was not a Brit he was a New Zealander, as such he didn't have any of that colonial attitude nonsense you think he did.
Think about who Hunt picked as the first summit team and that'll tell you what he thought of Hillary, he tried putting a Brit on top first and when that didn't work out he had to go with Hillary and Tenzing, and don't you doubt for one second that Hillary didn't know that, that's exactly why he'd never give the empire what they wanted by saying he stepped on top first, it didn't sit well with them and he knew it, it was his way of poking the empire in it's eye for treating him and everyone else in New Zealand like second class citizens, just like they do with everyone that's a part of the empire but isn't English.

@@dukecraig2402 Well i want to believe that and it is true to some extend but it remains that Aussies, Kiwis and Anglo Canadian settlers are all rooted in English culture even if they criticize the old england.
I take for best example the Indians who have been ruthlessly exploited, ignored and made poorer by 200 years of english occupation and exploitation of resources and yet what you will find in the most educated Indians mentality some of the same english snobbery and abject behavior they absorbed from their old enemy.
It's also the story of the child with an abusive parent who grow up to be the same with his own kids. So i agree Kiwis are much better in that regard but you cannot entirely dilute the original anglo colonial ruthless character.

Hillary was a New Zealander … not English or Brit … he was a subject of the British empire … both do not reach the top without each other’s help …. It’s always the politicians and some of the subjects that make a big deal out of who’s
1st …. From what I remember reading and other docs …. Both said the other was 1st and both had great respect for each other……then of course the British empire demanded it be Hillary …. Both guys were low key ……. what counts was their friendship … & both said the other on was 1st … one does not reach without the other… 🙏🏻

Damn the swiss guy was so cool, imagine if they didn't had that storm stop them at only 800 m from the top. History would had been different. Is so sad to see the difference between than and now with the tourist traffic jams, all the deads and the garbage left from decades. How much pure It was, basically untouched, there were already few deads here and there like mallory that wen in the 30s or something, only to be found after 70 years or something.

So Tenzing was the real hero of it all. His own climb partner tried to discredit him in his book, yet he gave hillary his credit by answering who climbed first in his book.
    Tenzing is the real gentleman.

Hillary never tried to discredit him, he refused for years to say he stepped on top first because he didn't want to put himself ahead of Tenzing even though it was true.
Cudos to Tenzing for saying it was Hillary who stepped on top first in his book but it remained a mystery to the whole world up until that point because Hillary would never put himself ahead of Tenzing.
Hillary's a hero for never putting himself ahead of Tenzing and Tenzing's a hero for saying Hillary was first when he wrote his book.
I don't know where you get this nonsense about Hillary discrediting Tenzing but it's nonsense.
