  • In this video, we are going to learn the origin of the character “度” and its two pronunciations with different meanings: to spend (time), extent, degree; to estimate. What's the temperature today?“above zero (degree), below zero, on vacation” in Chinese with 度.
    This is Lin's Chinese language class. In this series, we are going to learn characters in HSK 2 level. We will try to cover the mandarin characters as well as the traditional writings. Also we provide practical example sentences in real conversation by explaining the meaning of each word. HSK 2 includes 600 characters and 1272 words.

    我们在上海度过了周末 = "We spent the weekend in Shanghai"
    Besides 度过 for "spend time" I think there is also 花.
    But I think that 花 has the connotation of devoting time to a certain purpose.
    So 花 probably can't be used in the above sentence.
    But we could probably say :
    我们花了整个周末寻找我的狗 = "We spent the entire weekend looking for my dog"
    In this sentence, 度过 is probably inappropriate.
