I mean, is it normal to discover that your spouse is a criminal and then be like "No problem, have a nice day, honey". And is she shallow actually? It's really rewarding to watch a character like Skyler and how she reacts to the events and her character development over the seasons is actually something else...
I hated her on the first view. I rooted for Walter. But on successive viewing i realised why the fuck should i route for Walter. He has got away with too much shit tbh.
My ex boyfriend told me several times that he hated Skyler. I told him that he probably hated her because she reflects everything that Walter did wrong and was the only one that clearly faced the reality as it was, while he was dreaming about being more than ordinary and destroying everything on his path. My ex never said that again.
Whatever Walter did was for his family.. although he admitted that he liked it...but he'd never started it if he'd not feared about leaving his family in debt...so he started this for his family and ended up liking it...but whatever Skyler did was just out of her ego that walt is doing something wrong then y should i back off....proper fake feminism
@@pryo2460 Out of her ego ? If anything thats Walt. Walt could have just accepted Gretchens fund, but he denied because of his ego. He could work perfectly worked with Gale, instead of hiring Jesse back which started the fucked up chains of event, because of his ego. He could have worked well and could have had enough money for his family. But he didnt wanna work for Gus, deep down he wanted to become Gus. He was too proud of his formula that he wasnt ready to give it up. Once his ego costed him his own family, then only he realised his mistake, thus the line "i did for myself". Skyler was never egoistic. She fucked Ted as a diversion from her problematic marital life caused by Walt. Smoking is her own problematic addiction she was trying to overcome but it was nowhere near as what brutal things Walt has done. She decided save Ted to save her family as well. How is that different than rooting for Walt to murder countless men or even poison Brock to save his ass and family ? Its not wrong to be a feminist, but its clearly wrong to be a misogynistic ass who think Skyler is worse than Walt because she was antoganising Walt. Walt is a higly manipulative short-tempered egomanic who's a trouble to everyone surrounding him. Yes he saved his family, but from the problem that he had started.
@@pryo2460 Weird view of the world my man. I'd put Skylar as culpable in one sense because of some of her earlier actions, but the situation was extremely fucked up. One, Walt was a manipulator. If you can't see that you've a poor grasp of the show. Two, he became violent and threatening when things started to go down hill. Three, Skylar saw no way out having earlier covered for Walt, her sister's husband was in the DEA for God's sake. Yes, maybe, you could look at that Hank could have helped her, but it was a hugely shameful situation and there was no guarantee she wouldn't do jail time. Four, her kids! If Walt did it for the family, which is why he got into but then quickly became a cold blooded killer and lost any moral high ground he had, then Skylar stuck it out to save the kids not being left without both parents.

richfictionfighter Gonna assume you misunderstood my meaning of 'thankless role,' or maybe you're sending mixed signals. I wouldn't say she's the voice of morality, she's done her shitty things too. I liked that though, Vince didn't carve a damsel-in-distress out of her but he managed to make her sympathetic with the kind of stress she had to deal with from being Heisenberg's wife. By thankless I meant it's just not a very attractive role, and fanboys have been little pinpricks towards her. It was nice to see Marie represent another side though... she was such a cute supportive wife.
richfictionfighter morality my ass! Her character was a gold digging whore that cheated on her cancer stricken husband, used his "dirty" money to finance her ambitions/cater to her lover, then became all holier than thou when it hit her how deep the shit storm was!!! I wish Walt could've smacked her one good time. God I miss this show! Great actress though, well deserved win!
She gave the money to Beneke to get her and walt out of the IRS' sights. If he didnt pay the IRS, they would have looked into the carwash and they would have gotten caught earlier.
Holycrapitschad She gave the money to Beneke because of the potential legal consequences, true. Legal consequences that she would never have had to fear had she not bended her "moral fiber" and become romantically interested/involved with him. She was willing to break the law for this complete stranger (relatively speaking) and cook his books before she was willing to do so for her own husband. She's completely self serving.
A lot of people talking about how they loved hating her but although you can be mad at her for some things like Ted you weren’t supposed to outright hate her because you’re supposed to realize how someone living with lies and who wants to protect her children from a dangerous drug trade might act. She isn’t always gunna act nice and like cool mom when Walt is out here blowing up hospital wings... You’re not really supposed to love to hate her we all just had such a basic character view that we disliked her. On your second rewatch though you won’t hate her.
It is funny how people hate her character who was just a frustrated emotionally abused cheating wife of a seriously sociopathic drug lord murderer who was about to die.. more than walter white who was the seriously sociopathic hyper-egoistic drug lord mass murderer that had a kill count of hundreds and also tried to kill a kid to meet his agendas Woman hate is real in our society
I'm bingeing BB for the third time and at last I love Skyler. She was a good person who didn't deserve anything that happened to her, and any bad choices she made are easy to understand. I get it this time around. Anna Gunn deserves this not for creating a character who is hateable but one who is real. The hate is all about us. She's not Joffrey. She's just a strong woman in a horrible situation.
Skyler was the only one who truly did what she had to do in order to protect her family. Meanwhile, her husband abandoned his pregnant wife and family to play his meth game. Remember, in the finale, Walt admits that he always did it for himself, not to provide for his family. His childish ego caused Hank to investigate further, leading him to suspect Gus. He manipulated Jesse the entire series. And he killed Mike for no reason whatsoever. breaking Bad is the greatest show I ever watched. But if you rooted for Walt after season 1, please don't reproduce.
+Than McDowell I'm still behind Walt. His main focus was to provide for his family. Sure he did enjoy a bit of it in the end but that's what happens when you're good at something? And in the end he made sure his son/daughter would get the 9,7M at least that is what we have to go with. Hank couldn't resist his hard on for heisenberg. He couldn't let it go even when Walt wasn't in the picture. Not really Walt's problem here. The dude already had his warning when he became crippled, and now he's dead. He did manipulate Jesse to some extend, in some ocassions he had no choice because of his junkie traits and since he was involved. His hit on Mike or poisoning Brock can't be justified. But then again in a world like that you make sacrifices and take chances. However that wasn't the way he rolled when he began.
I spent the last week rewatching Breaking Bad for the millionth time (still a 10/10 show) and to this day I don't understand why people hate Skyler. The only reason someone would hate her is if they're rooting for Walt, and Walt is a prideful monster of a person - you're not supposed to root for him. He's the villain of the story.
After Bryan, Aaron and Jonathan being robbed finally one actor of Breaking Bad was recognise. Good for Anna Gunn. Waiting for the Breaking Bad sweap in August.
Just re watched breaking bad after so long and seeing it a second time you can see that Skylar wasn’t that bad and just wanted everything to work out but could see it all spiraling out of control. But an amazing actress well deserved!!
This is an ancient discussion BUT: 1. Skyler only had sex with Ted AFTER telling Walt she wanted a divorce. It's on Walt he refused to sign the papers until much later. Its not cheating if you've already stated you want to end the relationship. They refer to it as an "affair" later because that's the excuse they use for their marital complications when speaking with Hank and Marie. 2. Skyler gave Ted the money because she was complicit in money laundering. Giving him the money was the only way to make sure that she and Walt wouldn't get investigated by the IRS, so the choice was certainly in favour of Walt, which is literally stated by Saul who gave her the money for this reason.
youre right, its not cheating, its adultery. they are not just in a relationship, they are married. They both made a commitment, but I guess most people agree to "in good times and in bad" without really understanding how bad it can truly get. its still an affair until walt signs the divorce. I cannot refute your second point tho,
She did a great job portraying a woman who was put in a terrible situation by a man, Who refused to put his ego aside. This is what happens when betrayal and selfishness enter a relationship. Her acting was spot on and a master class. People hate her because she tried to hold Walt accountable and would occasionally say no.
This is such sweet poetic justice!! Anna Gunn, who thanklessly and brilliantly played the "bitch" who is a "monster for smoking while pregnant" and "being a cunt wife" (contrasted with the hard on for deranged, murderous egomaniac Walt) is an Emmy winner! And no doubt she HAS TO win in 2014 for the astonishing final 8 episode run. I'm just happy that she has the respect now of those who matter, despite the still loud screeds of a very small group of emasculated internet nobodies.
what do you mean final 8 episode run? Are you talking about all of the fifth seasons episode or is it one in particular? Just the final 8 eps of season 5? I just want to know what you're referring too. Hope she wins a second, she deserves it
rachelmarystar misogynistic?! F-off. She had a thankless role that was "right" for reality, but was not as entertaining as Cranston. It had nothing to do with hating women no matter what assholes like the reviewer over at The New Yorker said. It had more to do with putting the brakes on fantasy & action. Of course the depth & dimension of all the character is also what made the show great. We cheered for the villain because that's fun. So get over it. But yes she deserves it.
lol okay. and honestly, i don't see how "cheering" for a murderer and attempted rapist is "fun" - personally i couldn't wait for walt to get what was coming to him, and cheered for the people around him whose lives he ruined. none of them (skyler, hank, jesse, and marie) were perfect, but none of them came close to being a raging sociopath ala heisenberg. you're completely delusional tho if you think misogyny doesn't play a HUGE part in the fandom reaction/response to skyler. like, great for you that you weren't sexist about her, but newsflash: most people were. for the past 5 years it's been nonstop "god, skyler's such a nagging cunt, why can't she just let walt be great?!" etc. bullshit from BB fans - so much so that vince gilligan and anna gunn have addressed these idiots themselves.
She should have always got nomination for lead actress. She was always the female lead of breaking bad. Also, yeah Gunn was phenomenal in her role. She could have won lead actress' Emmy too.
I know it’s been said many times before in this comments section, but this was such a well deserved Emmy. She nailed the role and I could never get behind the hate for her character. It’s a testament to how well the show is written that Walt is a drug dealer and literal murderer but we still side with him and dislike Skyler because she acts as a “foil” to him. But in actuality she’s pretty amazing, and Anna plays her to perfection. (The same also goes for Betsy Brandt, who is underrated as hell)

It's very easy to hate women. Even me, I was disgusted by myself for disliking Skyler. But that's just the way the show framed Skyler in Walter's point of view, and society has always framed women who speak their minds as annoying and obnoxious.
@@Romandy13 This exactly. The show makes it so easy to make her look like the annoying one, but looking at the scenes again, she's almost always in her right. She's being a mother and a good wife, and is lied to and abused.

man she was a real ride or die though
My ex boyfriend told me several times that he hated Skyler. I told him that he probably hated her because she reflects everything that Walter did wrong and was the only one that clearly faced the reality as it was, while he was dreaming about being more than ordinary and destroying everything on his path.
My ex never said that again.
Skyler's job was to be hated.... everyone hated her...if u don't then u need to do something about ur mental state

So, so happy for Ms Gunn. Skyler was a very thankless role and she was amazing with it.
I could not disagree with you more. Skyler is not a poorly-written character. She's the voice to morality in Breaking Bad.
richfictionfighter
Gonna assume you misunderstood my meaning of 'thankless role,' or maybe you're sending mixed signals.
It was nice to see Marie represent another side though... she was such a cute supportive wife.
richfictionfighter
morality my ass!
Definitely deserved it. Extremely well done performance throughout the whole entire show.

Love how they play breaking bad theme
A lot of people talking about how they loved hating her but although you can be mad at her for some things like Ted you weren’t supposed to outright hate her because you’re supposed to realize how someone living with lies and who wants to protect her children from a dangerous drug trade might act. She isn’t always gunna act nice and like cool mom when Walt is out here blowing up hospital wings... You’re not really supposed to love to hate her we all just had such a basic character view that we disliked her. On your second rewatch though you won’t hate her.
“Am I under arrest!?!?” - Skylar White
The full theme of Breaking Bad is pretty cool.
I feel terrible for all of the hate she received just because of her role. She obviously played it well and very much deserved this award!

Pro tip - if you aren't Skyler, don't stand up against Walt
Awwww I’m so happy most of the cast got awarded over the years!!!
"Bryan Cranston just told me that he is the danger"
Skyler was the only one who truly did what she had to do in order to protect her family. Meanwhile, her husband abandoned his pregnant wife and family to play his meth game. Remember, in the finale, Walt admits that he always did it for himself, not to provide for his family. His childish ego caused Hank to investigate further, leading him to suspect Gus. He manipulated Jesse the entire series. And he killed Mike for no reason whatsoever. breaking Bad is the greatest show I ever watched. But if you rooted for Walt after season 1, please don't reproduce.
Well said.
But hey he still wanted to give the money to his son and family that still hated him.
+Abel Goni The road to hell is paved in good intentions.

I spent the last week rewatching Breaking Bad for the millionth time (still a 10/10 show) and to this day I don't understand why people hate Skyler. ok but the breaking bad music is so intense I love it haha
The way she ignored that lady 0:31 is exactly the way walter ignores her in the series
This is the exact moment Anna Gunn won an Emmy.
This is an ancient discussion BUT:
I cannot refute your second point tho,
anyone else notice at 0:32 Anna Gunn was about to kiss the girl then stopped kissed Jesse;t hat blond chick got humiliated
Who is the girl she ignored?
How happy Aaron and Bryan were😍
Walt: Skyler, WHERE’S THE EMMY?!!?
Skyler: i gave it to Ted 🤧
She did a great job portraying a woman who was put in a terrible situation by a man, Who refused to put his ego aside.
This is what happens when betrayal and selfishness enter a relationship.
Her acting was spot on and a master class. People hate her because she tried to hold Walt accountable and would occasionally say no.
Then it would be fair to divorce.
Hope she wins a second, she deserves it
glad to see a dude making this comment, it's really nice after 5 years of this misogynistic bullshit from BB fans.
rachelmarystar misogynistic?!
