Lots of people are able to hangout 1 on 1 with there being no sexual or romantic interest, which is good. I think the issue comes from making overreaching statements about guys and girls as a whole, instead of just stating he personally can't be friends with a girl (which is fine)
as a girl who grew up with basically 98% of my friends group being male, who all have girlfriends of their own now, JJs problem with male female friendship never happened to us. but that could just be that way since we've all been neighbors since birth.

I get what you say about the empathy. Like when a child drops a piece of food they are really enjoying. I don't just think cheer up we can get another one. I think of the actual emotion that that child felt in that second and it crushes me every time. Anger happiness sadness fear my mood is basically determined by whoever is closest. Crying at a baby announcement is totally understandable, it's not some little thing for your friend to become a parent and bring a life into the world. Crying at the hamster is because of the fact they had a funeral for it and showed cute memories. I cry instantly just from hearing sad music in a film no matter what's actually happening visually. Being emotional just means you care about things and that you're connected to the world around you and it's nice!
