i use to meausre myself on the carpet and i was 5'7 (170.5cm) now i measured on hard floor and now 5'8 (173cm) ty so much rob
There's no way that it'll make a difference of 2.5cm (the entire carpet isn't that thick)

I really had to strain to get down to Big G's 169cm height range, nearly hurt my back doing it!

when I was measured with the stand I found out I'm inbetween 180 and 181cm, I thought I was 173... explains why i never felt that short lol

Rob how come i’m taller if I measure with like a shoe box or simply anything longer (that’s also flat) than a spray bottle like the one you use. Does head size become a factor at that point ?
The bottle may not be touching highest point...I use something like 9 inch long can and if facing wall (even an inch away) it will still hit high point...if your nose is 2-3 inches away from wall and you put a 7-8 inch can, a chance it might not hit the high point of head.

Hi rob how accurate do you think this self measuring method is: 1. Measure the height of a flat doorway (flat doorway & flat ground) and record that height. 2. Stand under the doorway (with correct posture) with the top of your head in-line with the back edge of the doorway. 3. Hold a tape measure from the back edge of the doorway and extend it until it touches the top of your head. Try to keep the tape angled as straight as possible. 4. Hold the tape still on the doorway so it doesn’t wind in or out and step back. 5. Record the measurement where the tape meets the edge of the doorway and subtract it from the overall height of the doorway. For example: My doorway is 199.3cm, the measurement from my head to the doorway is 12.5cm, 199.3 - 12.5 = 186.8cm. I think it’s a pretty accurate method as long as you can keep the tape straight and not angled. Would you agree?
rob would u be able to notice a half inch difference between one who's a flat 6'2 and one who's 6'1.5 or is it barely noticable
If they are standing with same shoes/posture and you are looking closely, you might notice. But generally it is harder to spot 1/4 to 1/2...when it gets to 1 inch, many people will really notice that difference.

Question, when i measure my height, am i allowed to stretch my spine and body as high as possible, because it feels a bit unnatural, but idk, so i am asking. Thanks in advance. edit: because when i stretch it adds 1 whole centimeter to my height.
You could but your muscles might ache for a while if you do it too much
Keep your shoulder back and head looking as straight forward as possible (which actually raises height instead of looking up when measuring)
Stretch ur spine and body but keep ur feet flat and head level. Stretching ur spine even if it’s unnatural is still part of ur height
Best way is to stand in from of mirror straight and correct posture and if you have low or short hair you can lowe them cause hair just invlides around a 2 cm if you want more presise wet hair with comb most precise
Rob is it weird that I’m having a bit of a growth spurt at 21, I went from 5”11.75 to 6”0.25 in a month, I measured 9 hours after waking up both times, in the exact same way and place
It's a rarer last bit of growth, but sometimes people do gain a final half inch or so in 20-21 range.
@@RobPaul interesting thing is that it happened after I got sick with covid, I got an increased appetite from covid, and started drinking a lot of milk, taking vitamin D and sleeping a lot, maybe that had something to do with it

I doubt there were inconsistencies. I mean growing after 20 is quite rare but it does happen to some people
Why is it bad to measure on carpet? Is it because your feet sink into the ground a little?
Yeah, your heels can sink in, but when you rest the tape measure on the carpet, that isn't sinking in, so you are effectively undermeasuring your height.
Of course, the thicker the carpet the greater chance...some carpets are thin or very tightly woven, so the error might be small in that case.
@@RobPaul How about measuring with your back on the wall vs your face facing the wall with a long bottle? I found out that when i measure myself face towards the wall i tend to get 1- 2 cm shorter.
When i measure myself the other way, i get my true height. And im sure i am not moving the bottle while trying to turn my body without moving my hand to see the result of the bottle line on wall.

Hi Rob, in my case I'm 1.90 when I just get out of bed, but at night I'm 188.3 or 1.88. Of course with shoes I am always 6 foot 3 (1.91). So if the difference is 2 cm during the day, do you consider it appropriate to state that the average, 189.2, would be the correct height? I think the same thing happens to me as Tom Welling, Idris Elba and Ashton Kutcher.

If 5’11 ¼ was the before bed height at night, then 6ft is definitely possible since a ¾ inch loss is about average. If it’s midday then that’s be a decent loss

People always guess me to be around 6ft4 but I measured for the first time and apparently im only 6'2.5 (189cm) in the morning and 6'1.5 at night (187cm). What height should i claim ? I always tell people im around 6ft2 or 6ft3 now.
6ft 2 claim sounds fine. The fact you get guessed 6ft 4, maybe shows how people overestimate.

An old pair of Dons elevator boots, but they are not comfortable at that amount of height (4 inches).. 2-2.5 is easier to walk about in
169 is your slouching height? That’s a big disparity compared to your normal height big rob
In this case I forced the slouch to lowest I can go without bending knees…

The boots are Elevator Boots with big lifts inside, so I go from a proper 5ft 8 to near 6ft in them...very hard to walk for long periods of time in those boots though.

My ex even to this days measure himself like this he think he is 185 cm but he is not cause he have new girlfriend that is 175cm and when they stand close to each other there is only 2 cm diffrence the most. You could still gain a few cm and reach 6ft...many kids end up taller than their Father, but a fair amount also don't quite reach their Father's height.

Get a half inch gel shoe insert and you can feel like a legit 5'10 in public. It's such a small increase no one will know even if the shoes come off. I use one because I wake up at 6'2 and a quarter and dip to 6'1 and a half...I know it's a silly mental thing, but feeling like a legit 6'2 in public with the insert makes me feel better. haha

What about on a sloped floor? Is that fine?
Sloped floors can definitely effect measurements, as can a wall that isn't perpendicular to the floor. How much is harder to tell. Sometimes it might be a small fraction, but if the slope is quite big you could easily be mis measuring half an inch.
