Sony's direct involvement with SE projects, games and other releases lead them to the state they are in now. We can't shift the blame as if they magically did this themselves or turned on a dime as they've had no problem releasing normal titles up until the mid ps4-ps5 era when the 'wokeness' took hold over the hobby. If there's any one root cause to point at? Its the overlords in Calif as were the only 'committee' that makes day one patches and enforces them.
Show me your proof that Sony directly interfered with Square's game development otherwise this is only opinion at best.
Sony is involved with all of their exclusive titles or timed exclusives. Demon Souls remake, Stellar Blade, Ghosts of Toshima and the RE remake series. When the RE remake documents got leaked point for point they were on their payroll.

Square gave up on Nintendo for suppressing them back in the 90's, and it's only fitting that they're giving up on Sony today for doing the exact same thing.
Nope. They have up on Nintendo because they didn't use CD media and kept to cartridges. They moved their development to PlayStation because it was significantly cheaper to produce games. They still made Nintendo games, they just didn't get mainline FF for years

They didn’t start making Nintendo games until the GameCube because Nintendo finally moved to optical media. During their return they also started releasing a lot of older games and new 16bit style games on the GBA.
Look it up, not a single square/square enix game released on Nintendo from 1997 - 2003.

Nintendo not moving to CD was only part of the story.
Cartridges were inherently more expensive to produce than optical discs media. Nintendo made it worse by requiring developers to buy large amounts of cartridge media from a manufacturer which Nintendo had interest in. So, Nintendo was making money on cartridge sales while developers’ cash were tied up in cartridge inventory. Later when optical disc became mainstream, the developers were left holding large amount of unwanted cartridges. Eventually developers got rid of those cartridges at a loss.
Nintendo was a big bully. At the height of console war with Sega, Nintendo often bullied 3rd developers into making popular games as Nintendo exclusives. They made developers to choose between Nintendo or Sega.
High licensing fee was another reason why developers migrated to Sony PS1. I can’t remember the numbers but Sony’s licensing fee was considerably lower than Nintendo.
There were other reasons such as ease of development on the PS1, better developers support.
So yes, Nintendo was very oppressive back then while Sony was more developer-friendly. These oppressive behaviors had pushed the developers away towards Sony.
Whether it’s Nintendo or Sony, when grow big and powerful, they often become abusive of the power. It’s time Sony had a taste of defeat again.

This is amazing for several reasons. First, it shows us that Remake and Rebirth were the flaming failures they've always were believed to be. Second, they are liars: the only reason that the game didn't follow its original dark story, designs and more because they sold out to Sony of California. Finally third, when Japan turns its back on something they made, you know its bad.
I'll be honest I never thought the Japanese gamers would ever walk away from a square release.

This will only mitigate the damage. Square Enix’s biggest problem is that they set expectations too high and over spend. Until they fix that, no amount of damage control will help much.
Square Enix saw the PC user numbers with HELLDIVERS 2.
Honestly I god damn hope so and let that inspire them. I bought rebirth on ps5 but stopped playing and decided to play it at its best on PC

The problem for me was I couldn’t buy a PS5 for so long I just bought a new computer and now I don’t care about consoles or getting games right when they release
This was my problem also, and my hype game for the PS5 (Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart) gained a PC port, so I saw zero reason to get a PS5 after they started to become available.
Get rid of denuvo on pc ports too. Less lag = happy pc gamers = more money

January 26, 2016 was the beginning of the end for Sony's PlayStation console business. They released the PS5 nearly 5 years later. Knowing the ideologically toxic, 3rd-world state of Kommiefornia, I can't possibly imagine what possessed Sony to make this move.
That would have only slowed it down. Woke crap is starting to seep into Nitnendo now sadly.
Personally, I think that's when Sony went downhill, all the worst stuff from that company happened after the HQ move to California.

And that's ignoring mobile, which this would probably work on since it has basic controls, assuming you have a very powerful mobile device lol. Which makes PS the 4th worst option out of 5. Considering there are many times more cellphones and computers, and even switch has more consoles.
Not that I want my games to be made for mobile, or even console. Computer has a much more advanced controller in a keyboard + mouse, I want it to be used. Like some PC games I've played on console are horrible because the menus are dreadful without a mouse. And console games on PC have a fairly basic system behind them because of it, it can't support large lists, or complex command layouts very well.
Basic controls? Have you played it? I'd argue other than PC, PS5 is the best option for it. But it's made with unreal engine so they can port it incredibly easily to everything.

Well, PS5 has had a troubled history since its launch. The console was a bit expensive and the scalpers made the situation worse. Plus, AAA games are getting more expensive. Then there's the fact that more and more gamers have PC's capable of running games with better graphics quality than the best consoles. And the teen Tifa censorship scandal probably didn't help.
I have no idea why FF16 was exclusive when their biggest cash cow FF14 is massive on PC.
Plus 15 is on PC too, so...dafuq were they ever thinking? Exclusives are a thing of the past, time to adapt.
funny that you didn't know that, it was mentioned when they announced the game that it will be released "later" on pc about half a year to a year later. thats how they lost some of the day 1 pc purchasers who will propably not turn up on the pc release.
FF14 and FF15 are both on Xbox.

with FF7 remake/rebirth possibly not ever being released on xbox due to playstation contracts and rebirth and FF16 release on pc half year later due to timed exclusivity on ps5 meaning loss of sales which they would have gotten on a day and date release which will later not be recouped due to the delayed release, spoilers from the game being on ps5 ie youtube or twitch videos and hype being in the gutters from bad reviews or bad word of mouth and or possibly sale discounts.
I've been waiting 15 years for this to go down. The faster I get my final fantasy games on PC, the better.
Maybe this means Square will finally add Sword of mana, Ff Tactics advance, Illusion of Gaia, and Chrono trigger to the switch.

Kingdom hearts on PC? Then again its on epic. But Epic is about the same as playstation. Lots of players not going to migrate to Epic just to get one game.

70$ for game you can beat in 10-15 hours, yes sucks. However I have no problems paying that price like Rebirth which I know will take over 100 hours for me to go through. The problem is not the 70$ game the problem is those who think they can charge 70$ for anything.

Steam has 130M active monthly users. It's amazing that a game developers choose to ignore that group. I would have bought Rebirth on launch on PC no questions asked.
Let's not act like it won't come to PC it's just a timed exclusivity. Now does it start getting at 6 months to a year later of course it does
@MCG55SS by then almost any hype for the game ends up disappearing. I was stoked for FFXVI but as a Steam user who's been waiting forever, I hardly have any interest in it now and won't likely buy it when it finally hits Steam.
@@MCG55SS It will, but with Sony adding their own extra censorship to games, they can adulterate the Steam release as well since they're the main publisher.
By going truly multiplatform, Steam will be the only place (other than possibly Nintendo), where the games can release fully unaltered. Square has its own issues with allowing attractive characters, but no one is as bad as Sony yet, and Square has a chance to redeem themselves here.

Back in the day, Final Fantasy 11 was on xbox, PS, and PC. If it wasn't for WoW popularity, FF11 would've dominated. Exclusivity is a hindrance to profit for sure.
FF 7, 8, 9, 10, 12 13, 14 and 15 are on xbox. Sony just pay them to keep games exclusive which ends up lowering sales profits.
Well... not really true; Final Fantasy 11 predated WoW by 2 years. In high school I had a friend who loved playing MMOs and the first year I was at my new school he was playing FFXI, the following year he quit the game and was now playing Star Wars Galaxies. My only memory of him talking about the game was him sooking about how difficult it was to get Triple Triad cards and the RNG grind basically FFXIV's Triple Triad is the same as in FFXI so he would of hated it too. When the SWG controversy happened with the NGE update which basically killed the game, in 2005 he quit and moved over to WoW, along with 90% of the rest of the SWG population, I remember because he played a Tauran Shaman on horde side on my server when I started playing WoW at the end of 2005, around the same time all the SWG players showed up too.
So, the truth is, FFXI wasn't overshadowed by WoW, it was overshadowed by Star Wars Galaxies, which was the biggest MMO between 2003 and 2005, had a higher population that WoW did before the NGE; WoW simply benefited from SoE screwing up SWG, with almost their entire population moving over to WoW, before that point WoW was mostly populated in it's first year of release with Warcraft fans, a big population of gamers in their own right, but WoW wasn't anything to write home about at the time, it's population was equivalent in size to Everquest, it doubled at the end of 2005 thanks to what happened to SWG and the rest is history.

Steam is a shining example of caring about your customers, and letting the ESRB do their job-not to mention they also allow games that haven't even been rated. Best platform.
Square Enix gives Sony the finger? Dude, Square Enix gave gamer's the finger when they gave us Forespoken. They have been dead for years. Final Fantasy can't save them anymore. It isn't Sony's fault that they are failing. It's Square Enix.
It's honestly insane how long it took Square Enix to drop Sony exclusivity, regardless of DEI. They dropped Nintendo for far less back in the day just to stick to a single platform for another 2 decades with them taking forever to release their older titles multi-platform. Only reason we likely even have Kingdom Hearts on PC is because of Epic Games making a good enough deal for Square Enix as to release it on their platform and not Steam. Their business decisions are counter-productive if they actually wanted to profit more from their new releases. It only benefits the console manufacturer to have exclusivity unless the money to keep it exclusive actually offsets the revenue they would have gotten from having their new releases on every platform.
It's just absolutely baffling that the exclusivity went on for this long.
I like to think that Square were just really desperate for money at the time and Sony gave them an amount they just could not refuse

I might have IF there was a PS4 port. I'm one of the few who doesn't have a PS5 because of how expensive it is. They're like $200 more than the PS4 Slim I've gotten on Black Friday, and that was a bundle.

I'm amazed it's taken Square Enix that long to realize the need for multi-platform releases. Capcom had already been doing that back in the 1990s and the quality of their multi-platform releases has just gotten better over the years. Square Enix has got lots of catching up to do in that department.

In my opinion, Square didn't really did anything in this matter; it's more about Sony's decision to reduce exclusivity. Apparently, they'll treat games from SE in a different category now.
Square Enix is looking to score maximum profits across the board with their games. Therefore, what sense does it make to release one of your absolute biggest franchises on one single console instead of on damn near everything possible, especially on PC?

OH THANK GOD. Ive been begging for this for YEARS. Im one of the biggest FF fans alive, but i switched to PC and have had to play the waiting game for any releases. And i never understood the financial motivation behind the decision of console exclusives. Big win for gamers! With this switch, we might get better PC optimizations as well.
With the insane ballooning cost of game development Square Enix made a stupid move going for a timed exclusivity deal unless Sony paid them. If that was the case SE should have asked for more than half of FF 7's remake dev budget for the exclusivity.

bit late in my opinion, after they flopped with Avengers and Forspoken and their stupid decision to have a "ethics department" on top of the exclusivity deal. lost a lot of fans with the last 2 reasons mentioned. still not convinced to buy from them again after how they decided to do a timed exclusivity deal a la epic for some of their games and with the recent post release censorship. if they can guarantee a day and date release of future titles and NO post release censorship it will be a maybe to buy if not then they can go under.

I read an article a few months ago about how the last 2 Final Fantasy games (FF16 & FF7 Re) have greatly underperformed SE predictions. My immediate thought was, "Should have released them on Xbox and PC."

That's why they have all these hyped up games which are console exclusives: they want to sell consoles to customers, not games, game publishing is a side thing for Sony, their main objective is to sell playstations, and they're using game publishing to make people buy consoles.

Black Desert Online on PS4/PS5 the Multiplayer content in Fromsolt games are the only reasons why I haven't fully given up on PS+. I'm not resubbing to PS+ until the end of this year and only for the essential package.

Exclusive titles should have never existed beyond the PS2 era. Identical ports means identical (aka. useless anti-consumer) hardware.
