  • 1. This amazing-looking sea slug, commonly known as the Spanish dancer (Hexabranchus sanguineus), is a form of nudibranch or sea slug.
    2. Spanish Dancers are so named because of the way they swim, which resembles the way a Spanish dancer's scarlet skirt moves when performing a flamenco dance.
    3. Unlike most nudibranch species, which usually tend to be about the size of a finger, the average length of a Spanish Dancer is 20-30 cm and can grow up to an enormous 60 cm.
    4. The Spanish Dancer can crawl along the sea floor, and they can also swim when threatened, which is a unique talent among nudibranch.
    5. They consume deadly jellyfish and marine sponges as food, yet they are immune to their toxins and use their poisons to defend themselves.
    6. They’re hermaphrodites, which means they have both female and male reproductive organs, but they cannot self-fertilize; therefore, they still need a partner to reproduce.
    7. Each partner can become fertilized after the mating process. After some days, they will be ready to lay their peculiar eggs.
