I was just gonna say something similar. The Pistols in contrast to what was going on in that era was extremely severe and radical. They must've seemed like aliens. Wow! The Ramones mention was great too, since their album was newly released. "Minimalists and or the worst band in the world" hahaha!! Talk about bands shaking things up culturally!
All these years later that Sex Pistols ending has not lost any of its impact. My memory is this was on a Friday night. I had been to the pub and was looking forward to seeing them after following them through the pages of the music press. What I saw was life-changing. Nothing was ever the same again.
*How was it actually 'life-changing'. Your life remained fairly much the same, only you were now aware of the visual and musical aspect of the band. How does that really 'change' your life*
IF ONLY the USA had had someone half as hip and with-it as Tony Wilson. He knew what music meant and how it should be presented, and he could be serious without taking himself too seriously (or at least seeming not to).
BBC is owned by the government(focus on 'wider public good). U.S.-based broadcast networks are privately-owned, and simply are issued licenses by the government(ONLY about the $$$$).
In L.A. we had Rodney Bingenheimer’s Rodney On The ROQ show on KROQ radio 106.7 FM. One night he called John and Sid live on-air. I can’t even begin to tell you how important his show was. He was our John Peel. He played all the Punk records and since I was skint I could hardly afford to buy any of them on my own. Still has a show on SiriusXM to this day. He’s in his mid-70’s now.
God ! Never seen the full episode before . Really puts into context how important and special the Pistols were !

Same here.
Thought exactly that…The contrast and energy shift was amazing.
You can see why people were moved and floored by it.
Tony Wilson was such a visionary. Always looking for something new. RIP Tony.

That is awesome, first time i have ever seen the full show.
Glad you enjoyed it
Absolute perfection with the end result.
That was bloody brilliant! First time I have seen a whole episode, great stuff !
Thanks for posting this. Seeing what was about to be obliterated I felt for them
You're welcome
Brilliant 👏
What a show
Featuring the anarchistic future face of Country Life Butter.
seeing the rubbish that was on before, no wonder the pistols were like a hand grenade going off
When the Pistols actually had a real bassist!!
Merci.
Amazing moment in history. Not sure if this was intentional but the Jerry Lee Lewis clip was nearly as "punk" as the Pistols!
Jonsey was on fire in this
Still seeking freedom in 2024!
Why didn't we get shows like this in the States?

And you still had long hair and flares well into 1982😮
