There is one detail they forgot in the remake: Leon's hair from the original RE4 had brown roots and blonde highlights, in my theory this is to indicate that his natural hair is brown (just like in RE2 and animated movies like Damnation, Vendetta, Infinite Darkness etc.) and he dyed the rest of his hair blonde.
HD Project is a godsent, not to mention it is free. If you're playing the OG, HD Project mod is a must. Game looks so good with it, in fact I prefer some areas in the HD project compared to the remake. The castle for example is so much more beautiful and vibrant compared to the remake.

I agree. I think his face looks very strange depending on the lighting. I've felt this way since first playing the demo before the game even released. The rest of his character model looks super photorealistic, but his face often looks very 'meh' honestly - with the exception of cutscenes of course, in which his face looks just as detailed and photorealistic as everything else.
Dude come on the OG Leon looks like he's a video game verison of an anime Leon, although ofc i love the OG in every way almost i disagree completely and not to mention that it's not fair to judge Remake Leon based on one shot from the game where lighting makes him look like Gollum as depicted in this video also Leon has multiple faces in the OG version, his face as depicted in this video doesn't look like that in game it's worse and goofier looking and then there's cutscene Leon which also looks a bit different. So hard disagree on that, i think he looks perfect in the remake.
@Damsen it’s the lighting. The lighting for the game is a bit off in some areas unless you turn ray tracing on. DMC5 had the same issue, Dante looked goofy in some environments. Leon in the remake looks amazing when the lighting is on point, it’s the exact same character model as in cutscenes except in cutscenes the lighting is baked in (hence why all the detail on his face is apparent). If you play the game you will notice this, and his character model is not the problem.
He's just looking to the left and right during the aiming animation (Leon scanning the environment for threats). That's not him shaking his head to 'tell the player not to shoot because there is nothing there to shoot'.

While I'll be playing the remake, I can see both versions have their own artistic merit, so basically both the hd project and the remake are on par to me even if the remakes visuals are more advanced

Aside from the issues you mentioned, I also just don't like graphics mods that add hi-res photorealistic textures to low-poly models. It just doesn't look right paired together. These same kinds of HD texture mods exist for many other classic games as well, and they never look good to me. The textures themselves look great, for sure. But they just clash with the low-polygon models they're attached to.
People forget the realism aspect when they compare Leon's look between OG and Remake, the new Leon looks much more aged and haggard, throughout the game and the story they explain how the incident of Racoon City in RE2 affected him, and this is reinforced by his physical appearance.

As someone who has finished each version on professional difficulty. I must say that it is really hard to decide between Hd project and Remake. While Remake graphics are certainly more advanced, it gives a different feel compared to Hd. Stay true to the roots feel. I'd say they tied in this one. Gameplay on the remake is fresh yet stays true in a lot of ways. I love Ashley changes in the remake and it was 9.5/10 across the board. But little changes like the Ada Voice line that somehow getting worse even when compared to Re 2 remake ada which already sounds bad enough. At least they acknowledge ditman glitch with 8% movement speed in the remake tho.

The HD Project is the most accurate, as in many cases they quite literally re-took pictures of the real life locations or found the original sources in their original quality. Besides, the 2014 version has the lighting/color issue that makes the game look warmer because of a broken effect
