What I’ve noticed from the videos Iv seen is that the larger versions except for maybe the Texas are airier . Especially this version the txl . In comparisons with the other large versions this was the thinnest sounding. The smaller versions sound thicker . This large version sounds like it’s mid range and low end are slightly cut off. It sounds thin and airy. A lot of people have said they think this is better but it’s changing the character of the guitar a lot in that sense. It isn’t keeping the thickness of the guitar but takin out the meat of it . The smaller versions seem to be more transparent in this regard . It’s similar To what a 6l6 tube amp does to a guitars midrange, except this is also thinning the bass a bit. It’s making the guitar sound paper thin in comparison to its natural tone The smaller one holds onto the midrange and doesn’t enhance the high end as much sounding more like the guitars tone . I don’t know why this L version is popular I think people get sold on cliches “ Ohh it’s got that different transformer and is more expensive, it must be better!” . The transformer is thinning out the sound . It’s not better sounding . It’s thinner sounding .
The big one has a boost in it. It sounds pretty similar to an EP Boost. So just get the small one and an EP Boost and call it a day. No big deal. If you stumble on a deal for the big box-great, but don't spend a thousand bucks on one. It is high quality and the visual metering is nice, but not worth the extra price and board size over the compact. For the record I have a Cali76 Compact, Empress Bass Comp, Effectrode PC2A, and a Dyna Comp. I like them all, but prefer Empress and Effectrode for bass. Empress is my go to for bass due to the visual metering and outstanding quality and feature set. Tough to beat. Effectrode is optical all-tube LA2A style. The sound is warm, round, and fat, but the tubes can cause the signal to boost and get dirty. That may be good or bad. Also, it's a bit sensitive and mercurial. Better in a home studio than on a pedal board. For guitar, I prefer the Dyna Comp if I need compact size or squash style compression and the Cali76 if I need quality and general tone shaping versatility. It sounds great, but it is a fast grab compressor so it's going have a harder transient than an optical comp. The size of the pedal is really awkward so it's not on my main board that often. I use it on my preamp board instead. You can stack these two for a range of compression needs.
Bryar Gray I've tried both. The Xotic is nowhere as good at preserving the higher frequencies of the guitar. I really didn't like the effect of it on strat single coils. The Cali76 sounds quite a bit better than the Xotic. In between is the Wampler Ego Mini Compressor which I also have. That's a good pedal for the price and size.
compared the cali compact to my sp compressor: 1. cali is clean, sp raises the noise floor 2. cali sounds like a piano, sp sounds like a plastic comp. i'm saving to get the cali.
imslicc Sp sounds like plastic? Dude, I’m a diehard cali76 user...i love that pedal and probably use it in 75% of my patches but even I wouldn’t say that. Is the sp “as good” as the cali76? No but It’s not in the same league. The Cali is a pedal for people who are serious about compression and will pay a premium for the best of the best. The sp is a mini pedal that offers you some dynamic control. I don’t think it sounds bad at all.
The serial number P84L would seem to indicate this is a Lundahl version which would not mean CD vs Cali76 unless you ran this in 9 volt mode, sounds like it has the top end of the Lundahl in it though.
I wonder how they compare with the transformer disengaged on the original... To see him much the transformer affects the sound. Perhaps one could get the new version and a box with the transformer separately... And get the same results. Maybe even more flexibility if you put the small one at the beginning of a chain and the transformer at the end for example. I mean.. This would be really good to know in regards to the new Cali76 pedals... And then I'd be surprised Origin doesn't make their own DI box... Like a countryman type 85 but with their own or Lindahl transformers.
It’s hard to tell thru RUclips, the one on the right looks better though, has flashing lights and biggers always better innit? 😉 Believe it or not 7 years in the future the folk are trying to sell the old ones one reverb for over a grand 😂
The txlp version is like a klon...its only going up..mits more than tripled its orig msrp! Outside of a klon no modern era pedal carries anywhere the resale
Hello. You must say if you are using 9 or 18v in each pedal. The Lundahl transformer of the Cali76 will only activate with 18v So, if you are using 9v for both pedals it is ok, and that is what i think we want to see, but if you are using 18v it will be a unfair comparison because the Compact deluxe does not have Lundahl transformer !!
Yep. This is exactly why I refuse to go compact. I guess I'll have to shell out $$$$ to a secondhand owner instead of giving my cash to Origin. There is a place for the compact, but why does it have to be one or the other. I think theres a place for the original on any pedalboard belonging to a true tonehead.
Ich finde beide Pedalen vom Klang her absolut Identisch! "Origin Effects Ltd Edition Cali76TX-P" - 1800€ und "Cali76 Compact Deluxe" - 350€. Außer Größe und Preis höre ich da kein Unterschied.
Not a fair fight. Pitting the compact deluxe against Lundahl limited edition is not fair. Good to know what you're losing in the single space version versus the flagship, but you can't even buy the the TX-P anymore... maybe do a comparison between a cali76-STD and the compact.
I was so sold on the compact version until I heard the Lundahl....guess I need to make some serious space on my pedalboard!!!

Another comparison video on bass perhaps? :)
I hated compressors till I got the tx

Can you compare SP Comp (Xotic) to one of these?

Does it seem that the circuit in the compact version is killing some of the highs?

What voltage are they both run on? 9 or 18?
either 18 is better

What does the transformer do ?
It beats up decepticons@@marko6831
They're priced at $1,300-$1,500 on reverb... Jesus. As expensive as a klon.

They should bring the bigger one back at a cheaper price point
Ego vs Cali76 Compact
Cali!
Mini
small cali76.. in this comparison 9 or 18 v ?
Both 18v
i hear lundhal version on 18v more transparent vs STD Cali 76(big box). it is?
+paracelsus I dont have the STD Cali 76 so i cant compare
shnobel You could compare.. Just run them both at 9v.. It switched the lundahl off, basically turning it into a standard.
good...

Seems unfair to compare a version with a lundhal to one without
+Adam Dolhanyk
Unfair to compare? It's just a comparison! Seems to me it's unfair that you don't have all the versions at hand all the time! :)
