This actually helps if you are second but close if first slows down you can pass since it won't change target after it's tossed and if they don't you can get the needed space to avoid the blast

Another video went into it, but basically the blue shell is coded to not damage the player it's targeting if they use a mushroom at the right moment. Otherwise you and anyone else in it's explosion will spin out.

I think the reason behind that is if you were to use a mushroom against a red shell, and the rising saying that you can dodge a blue shell if it’s only targeting you, because the mushroom gives invincibility, then that would mean if a red shell is targeting you then you would have invincibility if you use the mushroom that wouldn’t make any senseso that’s why you can’t do it if you’re not the one being targeted because giving invincibility to mushrooms for all items would just be too broken

Theory; The explosion itself does not actually hit the person in first place. The blue shell itself diving in on you is attack 1. The explosion afterwards is attack 2. Attack 1 is meant solely for the person in first, with attack 2 affecting everyone else. This is to ensure that those with a mushroom in first can still dodge the Blue shell despite being visually enveloped by the lingering explosion made by Attack 2, which, by normal accounts, should outlast the dodging frame provided by the mushroom.
The mushroom gives a very small invincibility frame which you can see in the files the reason ot only works if you are the target is because the blue shell hitbox is like a wave meaning you are barely in the dead zone of the wave
That's because when the blueshell is aiming for you, you can't even dodge the explosion with a mushroom. For some reason though Nintendo decided that you still don't get hit. This does only apply to you though if the blueshell is aiming for you
Yes. You can also dodge a blueshell with a mushroom while stationary. Try driving against a wall while you blue shell with a mushroom. It simply applies a buff to dodge the blueshell targeting you, nothing about the explosion hotbox.
If you can manage to get a blue and a mushroom to 1st, you can kamikaze 2nd (and maybe more ppl) with the blue shell and dodge hitting yourself with the mushroom
