Dude, first of all this is by far the best video to show how to spin a basketball. Every single question I had before, and every question I thought of as you were going along, you answered all of them in this video. Where exactly on the finger? Check. What about if it has to be in the groove of the ball lines? Check. Does it matter how fast it spins? Check. What about if it starts to slow down? Check.
For me I think this was the best overall instructional video I've ever seen! So awesome. :)
With that music it sounds like you're rapping
Your right 😂
I agree
Ture
Lol
If you're in Australia make sure to spin it anti clockwise it works better.

I've been practicing since yesterday and I'm still practicing today but I'm started to get the hang of it, thanks coach nick!
Wow, this is one of the best tutorials I've seen on ANY subject on RUclips. Great job.
From your finger placement, aim for about 1/3-1/2 up the ball to hit it, so that you're either hitting it in the middle or on the lower hemisphere.
: )
Thanks Uncle Nick, just got done watching. Dang, you are popular on here! We're impressed how many followers and views you have. Looks like you could have a full time job doing this, who knows if you'll even see this comment there are so darn many.
Is it patched?

It took a lot of practice, but I just got it. I do it on the nail of my middle finger with my pointer finger next to it for support.
For anyone who’s still struggling, don’t worry, it just takes practice. You’ll get it eventually. I thought I’d never be able to, but it’s almost easy now
I can also transfer it between my pointer and middle, but I’m working on being able to transfer between all my fingers and eventually do tricks. Maybe left handed eventually
Nah Xander. That is some bad advice. I have been hooping for 20 years and can't do this. In 2008, I tried to do this and still can't do it. It is impossible. It's like some people can't dunk, dance, or whistle. After 10 years of failure, it's time to leave this black magic alone. My brother can do this and he can't even play basketball, he did not even practice. Go figure
great video now i can do it for 3 or 4 seconds
Great video coach. Thank you for the tips. My son wanted to learn how to finger spin and I didn't have a clue on where to start. We are both making great progress with it thanks to your video. Its actually turned into a friendly little competition on who can keep the ball spinning the longest. Thanks again.
hey that's great to hear! If you guys ever get around to it, you should respond to this video with a video of yourselves competing to see who can keep the ball spinning the longest.
thanks for watching
cheers!
Real detailed tutorial man.
Is it for this trickthat a worse hand should be used
I taught myself to do this in elementary school and I did exactly the way you did it!
Hey Coach! Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I have one problem though. I can't get the basketball to stay balanced on my fingers. It falls right off or I try to grab it before I give it a few seconds to balance. Could you help me out with this? Thanks a lot!
ya that's normal. keep at it. your hand and fingers have to get used to how the ball is balancing. You'll notice with more practice that the ball stays up a bit longer and longer until finally it will stay up. : )
make sure too that it is spinning horizontally and not at an angle
The universe prevents some people from doing this. I have been trying since the 90s and I have been hooping for many years. I can't do it. My brother cannot even make a lay up or bounce the ball without looking at it. Yet he has been able to do this since he was 9 years old. Go figure
mediacenter man I was thinking the same thing ..lol I feel ya pain my bro!!!
@@rgjmg070607 Thanks bro. I remind myself that even though I can't do this, I can break ankles, make fadeaways and shoot 78% free throws. Take your ball spinning black magic and shove it up your ass!!!
By far best turorial i've seen in awile. Thanks!
you're welcome : ) thanks for tuning in
You're a good teacher
I think I get it now by when you show me the middle finger part. Sometimes I got it by a quick seconds, but I think I didn't balance it right. Great video.
Excellent video man regards from Ireland. ..I'm getting it slowly 😊
Hey, +coachingnick can you make a second video about keeping your fingers in the center of the basketball
This is the best tutorial I have found thank you
I actually spin it on my middle finger cause I find it easier that way and some people get so pissed I can’t figure out why
This is awesome!! Thank you Nick for learning me.
this helped me so much I know how to spin a ball on my finger and I am just 12 years old I am always impressing my friends now.thx
Thanks for all the instruction. this video helped me and it took me a few days now i can spin on all my fingers and transfer!
this guy has been doing this since he was 8! awesome
I just subscribed to your channel. Thanks for sharing. Great video!
awesome, thanks for watching!
thanks so much this is the best video for spinning iv seen that was great
I can't keep it still, it keeps going off my finger.
Bleedz yeah i know right
+Bleedz keep training then you'll spin it for 10 minutes
try spinning it on your nail and then just practice
First, practice getting the ball spinning in a perfect clockwise (or counter-clockwise) rotation. Then, work on getting it to land exactly where you want it to each time. Finally, get a feel for balancing the ball as it slows down. You got this!
@@HowDrab This is impossible. Been hooping for over 20 years and can't do it. Steve Nash was never going to win the slam dunk competition and spinning the ball on my finger is not going to happen. I think 10 years of failing is enough.
Thx finally a good vid how to spin a basketball on finger!
Ya Andrew, it's definitely normal. Over time, if you keep practicing, you'll develop a callus on your finger where you spin the ball (at first it will be a painful blister). So try to practice using different fingers. That is also why I try to spin it on my fingernail--less friction and pain.
= )
As for balancing, make sure the ball is spinning horizontally and not at an angle, and it should stay up there.
Keep at it, you'll get it eventually!
Coach I'm having trouble with the spinning and keeping it horizontal!! Can you please help me?
Agreed, best tutorial so far.
Nice! Just subscribe. .I always wanted to learn how to do this and ive been playing ball all my life and i could never do this...! thnx for the tips homie!
For some extra insight in how the ball is spinning: You can display youtube videos at a slower speed by going to the settings icon in lower right corner of the video. (HTML5 needs to be enabled)
good teaching buddy. Been trying.....
Thanks FarViola! I think you should post a video response to this video of you spinning the basketball! :)
This helped so much! I learnt how to do it in la few days but it was worth it!
yes
One of the best vids
how long does it take 2 get it down good i have great spin and balance for about 5 to 8 seconds been doing it non stop
Thank you so much! This helped a lot.
Great video man, thanks a bunch!
I did it and I was amazed! Not hard at all :)
great tutorial, thanks for the tips!
Thanks coach nick this really helped
I have learned to spin it in 2 weeks and I made a goal of 45 secs but not I can do it for more than a minute. I am thinking that I should make another video of doing it for long time.
That's an awesome spin!
This guy is awesome at it!
I do the exact same approach except I'm right handed so I spin it counter clockwise on my right hand. guess everyone has different preferences
Post his video in the video response section.
thanks hakim!
Thank you you inspire me and helped me thank u:D
Hey coach thnx for the video but I have a question. How do u use your other hand to keep it. Spinning and not stopping without making the bal stop
Just gently slap it on the side. At first you'll hit it too hard and it will fall off but with practice you'll find the right amount of pressure and it will stay up.
CoachingNick thank yu very much coach i will try
I cant do it
agree
*That thumbnail is in the stretch res*
congrats on over 100K hits!!!!
Thank you for the tips, yet I cannot find an explanation for the final step. I mean, I can find plenty of tutorials explaining "1. the toss" and "2. the catch", but then? I always hear "3. practice" but this doesn't help about WHAT to do to keep the ball spinning upright. I mean, I can throw and catch it decently, but most of the times it won't be spinning EXACTLY horizontally, so it starts preceding and I don't know how to correct this. Consider that I can balance the ball on the finger if it's NOT spinning, and my reflexes seem to conflict with the dynamics of gyroscopic precession. Is there someone who can help me?
as i learn this on my offhand, i'd say it's pretty normal to have difficulty keeping ur finger straight. When i made the vid i forgot about this part (i now notice it while trying it on my off hand).
and yes, i know u hate the answer, but MORE PRACTICE is it. . .your finger will naturally correct itself over time as mine has as ive practiced it over the last few days.
if i were to do this vid again i think i would teach it w/o the two hand toss--that should probably come later. one hand toss is, imo, preferable and as i learn this on my opposite hand it's easier just to do the one hand toss.
also, how are u balancing the ball on ur finger if it isn't spinning. sounds like YOU should be teaching us! : )
ok, ill try to make a video about ur prob lem though b/c i do find it interesting and my explanation is kind of weak at best. . .i think ur finger just improves its proprioception if u will, and it magically learns to stay under the center of the ball . (gimme a couple of days)
made a new video in spite of your comment. . .not sure if it will help, but might help to watch. ruclips.net/video/861h5e9gqQ0/видео.html
Really helps so much thanks !
I still suck! Hahaha not your fault though!
more practice : )
CoachingNick okay
+M. anonyme lucky!!
It's not your fault in this thing u maybe suck in everything
maria soares mabye cuz ur mexican
Could u teach us how to dribble behind our legs
Wow! This video really helped! Thanks a lot coach! I watched your video because my mom used to work with you! :)
hah, awesome. Who's your mom?
CoachingNick
lol coach... " who's your mom" made me laugh because its a phrase which my friends use to annoying little kids :P
Finally something useful
do you get the ball to balance on your finger or your nail?
Haha thanks for the compliment neil1335! Glad to see you'll be mastering this trick. Send it to once you're done--or just do a video response to this vid please!
PG POWER!
: )
This video really helps
Coach Nick, Thanks.
Great video really helpful
do you use the top or face of your finger?
Best video about it
if a practice everyday at it, how many month will it likely take to be able to do it, if u can remember how long did it took u to be able to spin the ball without it falling off?
hmm, probably 1-2 weeks before it spins, and then another week or so before you can hit it a few times w/o it falling off, but I i'm not really sure as I learned this a long time ago when I was young--i just remember practicing A LOT before I could actually do it.
thank u you helped me so much
you're welcome Shannon : )
Nice! Well done!
I just started practicing yesterday and my finger hurts from getting the ball to land on it. Is that normal? Also I can get it to spin but it always falls off in like 2 seconds because I can't balance it. Any tips?
Coach..is this technique is applicable for other balls like volleyball or any other?....
of course. smaller the ball though the harder it is in my experience
@@CoachNick thank you so much...
I have everything but the balance thanks for the video great help could u please help me coach thanks!:)
where do you slap it?? or how hard? cause it unbalances the spin then it slap it
U really helped me thanks a lot
Can we apply it to football also ???
How do you keep it balanced on you finger that’s the only thing I can’t do. Do you keep your finger tense or loose?
finger is fairly tense. it just comes down to reps my friend.
Thanks coach Nick it really helped :)
you bet Jeremiah : )
thanks alot coach! now i can spin the ball with all my fingers! (but not my thumb)
If youre right handed, should you spin the ball on your right hand?
Thx dude this vid helped a lot thx
Coach Nick, how do I keep the ball on my finger? Cause when I when the ball is on my finger it always spins sideways and slips of my finger. Please help.
that's normal and part of the process of getting it to stay up. Keep practicing and make sure that when you toss the ball that it's spinning horizontally and not sideways, and make sure that your finger lands right underneath the ball.
when i first started i had that problem too but over time it will stay up.
How to spin a basketball and other tricks actually very informative, it won't happen overnight takes practice. Check out this old guy that can do it on this link
Awesome thank you
Thnx bro really helped
thanx. very good vid
i can't remember b/c i learnt it along time ago. I do remember it taking LOTS of practice. Eventually you'll get it up and then when you slap it to spin it more it immediately falls off.
Thanks coach
Yes I got it
Th coach it helped me a lot
does the type of basketball matter?
Thank you got it
