- Consolidating rows of dry, loose hay into piles -- in a manner that most people haven't seen. This demo shows part of late hay harvest on a pasture which was grazed several times that season. The leftovers, though sparse and mostly short, are being made into winter's feed.
My wife used to run around the field and in the barns with no shoes when we were first married. Now we are both to old to work and we watch you young people. Thanks for the pleasant memories.
I grew up in Newfoundland and spent a few summer weekends at my uncles place. He raised cows, sheep , and some very hardworing children. His daughters, my cousins were like lady. I miss those days and love those ladies. Life is better lived closer to the soil, nearer the trees and in wonder of the heavens. God bless this woman.
I never knew a woman who would do this kind of work. This young lady is impressive beyond words.

This brings back so many amazing memories of my childhood in the farm. Living now in the city has its positives, but living in the farm was bliss.
Nah farmers better. I haven't experienced farming for decades. Not so long. And the longest was in a Mexican ranch. So it's not the same.

@@seanleith5312 physical labor isnt good unless its construction but it doesnt pay much a few cents if i were to work at a crane where they pay me 16$ an hour Id have to use up more time excersizing cause il get fat on that machine kinda wish they'd payed me more for being at the shovel because i use less time sadly physical labor is almost no more.

My wife worked my business with me when I started out and even with child 8 months pregnant was on the site doing tree removals with me to make ends meet. It's good character, very hard to find in women today, highly respectable! Blessed is the man who finds a wife, he finds a good thing

I used to help my Dad do this kind of work as a young man. My friends use to come help us too. But it wasn't long before tractors and equipment took over and that is how we do it today.

Well that is how it's done. So nice to see. I grew up on a small holding, where every thing was done by hand.
I sure hope I can teach my daughter to be this passionate about the small labors of a quiet self sustaining life.

Big bear when I think of a hay field I think of alfalfa hay and the stubble is so sharp and stiff just thinking about trying to walk through it brings tears to my eyes. After looking again I see it's mostly grass but still my feet are so tender I'm careful on carpet! Lol

I imagine what he meant by follow her example had less to do with farm work, and more to do with work in general. With exceptions, American women are lazy and fat. That is a simple statistical fact. But it's not just the women, As the men are as well. But I think you already knew what he meant. When I was a young my family would bring in loose hay like shown in this video. My sisters and neighbour girls use to help out. It is rare to see this method used anymore. I live in Canada but I doubt if Americans are much different than Canadians when it comes to energy levels. Are you sure your women are lazy and fat or are they just lacking the nutrients needed to stay energetic. I think our food is becoming depleted of what it use to have in it. I read that the five biggest food producers in the US are chemical companies. Food developed in a lab to taste good may not really be considered food as far as our bodies are concerned. We need to take back the farms and grow real food and use methods like this to harvest our crops and have fun while we are doing it.

I tried this technique with large pile of leaves, and it worked great. With a helper (my daughter), we managed to push huge piles of leaves around.

Wonderful! She can really handle that fork, or '4-prong pike', as we would call it in West Cork. We used a lighter, two-prong fork for hay. Reminds me so much of my early days in 1950's Ireland where I used a small tractor and a 'buck-rake' to do the same. Traditional farming GrowSmartIreland
We did exactly the same in Denmark. I love the hay smell still and memories from then 🍀🍀
Turned an acre with a two prong fork with my neighbour yesterday , going into the shed today, will use this method, up Clonakilty !
