I think you lot need to stop Judging footballers with a basketball mentality. There is so much more to football than just goals and assists, therefore stats never give you the full picture. There are so many other ways to contribute to a team and determine the goat, that is why this debate has never been settled. You have to take into account that Messi throughout his career has been in some of the best ever football teams, whereas Ronaldo has produced immense numbers in an ageing Man Utd team and at the age of 37 was one of the leagues best forwards in the worst Man Utd team we've ever seen.

Ronaldo’s job when he was younger wasn’t to be a goal scorer. He was a winger. So his creativity, speed, and skills is what mattered. He pushed the team forward to get into dangerous positions. Now he’s a goal scorer and his job is more so to be closer to the score and making movements to get into scoring positions.

People like to do direct comparisons between Ronaldo and Messi with stats but stats cannot determine everything. Ronaldo played as a midfielder for the vast majority of his career at man united which hampered his potential stats. On the eye Ronaldo is the most entertaining player that I have ever watched but that is not me saying Messi is worse at all. At the end of the day it comes down to personal preference.

I think you've a very American view of sports, which is understandable as that's what you know of course, Football is not just about stats, there's more to it than just goals, which is why the games are lower scoring than Basketball for example. Positions you play, your overall role in the team etc etc can make you a very good player without even scoring goals, or barely scoring. We watch the games with out eyes, like the game should. Ronaldinho, Neymar etc are people like to watch because they entertain with their style of play. Of course those players still score goals etc, but it's different. Honestly just having an open mind and just watching their style would probably help you.

What I will say on the Ronaldo vs Messi debate is that they are both so good that most of the time it comes down to preference. However, if we are talking about Messi scoring more goals or averaging more per game, Ronaldo played in the Premier League from 16/17 years of age. He passed 40 goals ONCE while he was there, in his last season there I believe. When he moved to La Liga (which is the league Messi played in his whole career), he scored 50+ goals for 6 seasons straight. Even getting 61 in a single season. He never even hit 45 whilst in England. Ronaldo averaged way more goals in La Liga than he did in the Premier League and Messi played there for way longer than Ronaldo did. Messi does create more goals, getting a lot of assists whilst also scoring, but for me, I would take Ronaldo up top in any big game over Messi (A really hard choice) simply because he has more ways of scoring. He's way better in the air and can score from anywhere on the pitch. Left foot, right foot, he does it all. (Also, I am well aware that Messi can use both feet and is actually quite good in the air, for anyone who wants to talk about that, Ronaldos height and jumping ability give him a massive advantage though in that department). --- This is all just my opinion

I would love to see yall play some football irl. Especially the guy on the right. Also I think you need to look at Ronaldo and Messi at different perspectives. Ronaldo is a ULTIMATE goal scorer, while Messi is an ULTIMATE playmaker. But this does not mean it is just goals and assists. There is many more components that come into it. I think Ronaldo is more of an all around player, while Messi is better at other things, and for Messi's goal/ to minute ratio, Ronaldo is 37, Messi is 35. Ronaldo has played more games and minutes at an older age, and we all know what happens to players when they get older. None the less Ronaldo is still a world class player. Ronaldo has proved they better longevity by scoring more in harder leagues at older ages as well. I could go into more, but overall Messi is Unbelievable, but Ronaldo is NOT HUMAN!

There's a big difference between them, messi started at Barcelona with ronaldinho and some barca legends and stayed at that same clubs for more than 16 years since he has an advantage ( a big one too) and Ronaldo played in midfield when he started at man
Football has a degree of luck same as basketball even though u Can improve you’re odds of scoring a 3. Also when crossing a ball in football it’s not really luck it’s more practices of technique an example to basketball would be alley op as you’re predicting that you’re teammate will be there but it’s not guaranteed. Also football is like chess it’s high paced but strategic trying to breakdown the defense and defenders in football are actually most of the time keeping these attackers quiet in game so defenders are actually good but these clips are the times they slip up. Messi started off in LaLiga and stayed there for the majority of his career. Now, he's at Ligue 1. Ronaldo started off in premier league, then switched to laliga about 6yrs after. After laliga he moved to serie A, then moved back to premier league.
If we compare leagues, Ronaldo has been in the harder leagues. So stats isn't an accurate way of judging who is better, even though Ronaldo has better significant stats.
For me, the greatest of all time is prime Messi. But if we looking as an overall package, of course Ronaldo is better.

Jajajajaja amigos soy Chileno y entiendo el fútbol desde la liga de menos nivel a la máxima como ustedes el basquet o rugby o baseball. Pero les puedo decir que comparar la importancia de las asistencias entre una disciplina y otra es un error tremendo porque son completamente distintas. Si Messi tiene más asistencias que Ronaldo es principalmente porque si estilo de juego lo llevaba a finalizar las jugadas casi en boca al arco y siempre habían 2 opciones. Dar pase, gol o fallarle. La efectividad era tremenda en ese tipo en su prime por lo que habían muchos goles y como segunda consecuencia era la asistencia.... Sumenle a eso que era falso 9 osea delantero neto pero recorriendo el campo desde la mitad de la cancha. En cambio Cristiano, siendo mediocampista en el MCU no fue habilitador sino que generador de juego es decir alimentaba a los aleros también y delanteros para que ellos o pasaran o finalizarán. Lo increíble fue que CR7 hacia muchos goles en esa posición, más que un delantero como R9 por ejemplo y con más recorrido que Messi en todo el partido.
