I’ve been feeling this way for so long as I watch loved ones around me of all ages fall into disabilities and injury. I am so grateful to you for posting these videos and instruction on mobility. I looked so hard for so long and haven’t found anyone who covers what you do and posts videos free like these you do here. It makes me want to buy your programs even more just out of pure gratitude. Thank you for helping empower us to achieve optimal health.

Hi Dr. Jen! As a recently graduated OT, I am so pleased with the way you described the importance of movement to everyday functional activities:) Like you, I am eager to help my future clients, particularly with living as independently as possible. I love following you on instagram, and I am taking your upcoming #move2improve challenge. I always learn so much from you, and I can't wait to implement your strategies into my own life, then hopefully many more! Thank you!!

Breaks my heart seeing my family not move. I am in pain. I believe my initial cause being knocked of my bike over a car, landing on the bonnet & then the road. It shattered my pelvis, but I also believe it caused weakness as my left side seems to have had one injury after another pretty much from my neck to my toes over the following years. Yet I have worked out all the time but for periods when I was pretty much immobile from one injury & 4 surgeries & a spell of debilitating depression. I've trained as an aerobics instructor in the 90's & an aqua aerobic instructor in the 00's helping teachers find new ways to exercise disabled clients. I've been training with weights since I was 13 yrs old, formerly doing gymnastics & every team sport I could as well as field events. I wasn't a runner & in fact I'm not much of q walker either. As from a very young age I have suffered with shin pain & eventually shin splints. I used sorbothane insoles for aerobics otherwise I'd suffer with that too. I've tried them for walking but eventually I'm still in pain. Point is. I've tried to encourage my family, parents & sister to be more active my entire life. Now I see my Dad unwilling to do physical therapy for his knees & being in bed or laid on the living room floor in so much pain but refusing to strengthen his muscle to help support his joint. Gradually going from bad to needing a wheelchair. (To be fair he was due to have new knees, but they couldn't operate for other medical problems) Dad did used to be fairly active however he never did anything to stay mobile or protect himself, to strengthen any part of himself that wasn't naturally strong. Mam had a different kind of being active, doing chores. Besides that she didn't do much bar a short spell after my bike incident when both her & my sister came with me to an aerobics class once a week to help me get back to myself mentally more than anything. This was a very brief spell. Mam has tried doing bits here & there but quickly looses interest & always feels she needs to spend money to do exercise but can't afford to. She'd have a month or so swimming then never swim for another year. A short time doing yoga when I was preschool, wet my qappetite for movement but didn't continue hers. I'm currently trying to get him him try qigong as a lot can even be done seated for Dad but it would be easy for them & healing. I doubt they will even try it. As I say it breaks my heart. Mam has arthritis in her spine & hands, My sister has problems with her neck. Her main exercise was cycling to work but last year she bought a car for the job so I doubt the bike will come out too often. We all need movement & yet only I persist daily. Yet I am the one who can't work for injuries & medical reasons. I struggle to do my own house chores. Yet I keep going, I try to do something constructive for my mobility everyday. Plus use essential oils, massage & acupuncture to help. I found this video inspiring. I'd forward it to them but they'd just be frustrated with me for pushing again. I can't just accept they don't like to or don't want to. I know they need to.
    Sorry for my long comment.

Thank you so much for sharing. It is difficult when we want our family or those close to us to do more for their movement or health. Sometimes the best thing we can do is be the example that we want them to see in themselves. Keep putting that example around them by being the example. Using love and acceptance of them can go a long way! Keep doing what you are doing and hopefully small steps will happen in those around you!

I feel so inspired by your story. We really take a lot for granted in our lives. I recently went through my second ACL reconstruction surgery on the same knee in addition to a meniscus repair this go round. This recovery challenged my patience because I had to take it slower and not come off crutches as quick as I had last recovery. Now looking back I think about how grateful I am to just be walking again. I may always have repercussions but I can at least move and get back into fitness like I’ve always loved.

I love this!! I've been healing from ulcerative colitis, but overall, my body was dependent on medication. I've learned to listen to my body, be kind to it and TRULY learn to love it, including, transforming pain into notifications, of the things I need to change/improve. Love your mentality & can't wait to finish my first mobility challenge this week. 😁 # Namaste 💖

This is a pretty amazing message! I just stumbled upon this as I was searching for stretching techniques. I suffer from sever chronic inflammation in my neck and back. Now it’s starting to move to my shoulders and elbows. At only 40 years old my doctor said my back is of a 70 year old person. Trying to find ways to reduce inflammation and your video moved me to be able to do more for my body… thank you.

you are so right, why wait until we are in pain in order to move or stretch? Same with what we eat, why wait until we feel ill or have chronic belly pain in order to eat better quality foods? To me, it is about prevention and help my clients find the how, what and why we eat what we eat. Great videos! Thank you DocJen.

Your idea of 'why wait?' is something I really believe in. I've always wanted to be someone who specializes in Preventive healthcare because prevention is ALWAYS better than cure. Why wait for the damage to happen?
I'm a med student now (which is a curative healthcare field and not preventive) but I'm interested in exploring all the ways to have a healthy lifestyle which doesn't require constant visits to the physicians.
