@@Samm_b28 he clearly has a very very sharp ear to get all the tone from their voices. He knows when they are airy, straining, supporting etc. Which showed his professionalism, he is a great vocal teacher to catch details!

I like that you can still enjoy music despite your profession. Sometimes professional singers or coaches get so lost in analyzing details and breaking down steps that they no longer seem to enjoy music as much as those who are less trained.
This so much! I was a bit apprehensive of watching this because most people just rip BTS' vocal line apart. I loved that he lifted the positives while at the same time explaining and giving constructive criticism for the weaker points. What's the point of learning and understanding music + vocal techniques if it doesn't enhance your listening experience? Someone doesn't have to be a perfect or the strongest vocalist to be enjoyable. The enjoyment lies in the small things that set them apart imo.

mhuston865 Thing is. They have been receiving criticism continuously since they started to climb into the industry, and they havent show any improvements on it. I hear the vocal line exploring more colors and expanding their range, but if cant control their old technical problems, what is the point. It is like building above a cracked base structure. And Bighit team seems to not care abt making their 'singers' become actual professional bc those guys dont even have a coach or any vocal guide, just the production team who tell them what to sing but not how they SHOULD do it properly.
Im kinda tired of waiting any proffesionalism from Bighit, i give up on them already and to me bts vocal line (being all beautiful, unique and cracked) is going to be weak as hell forever and sadly I wouldnt call them singers in a professional aspect.
@@Maria-up4tl I think I remember jimin talking about that too. From what I've noticed I don't think any kpop companies have actual vocal teachers that teach you techniques and proper singing except for maybe sm. Just look at rose and bom from yg, their vocal coaches taught them to sing in that weird yg way that really strains their throat even though they sang fine before. So with bts too I remember a couple years ago jimin was saying he wishes he could go to a vocal coach and do some intense training for at least 3 months because he's been trying to improve his singing on his own and it's not working out for him. But then he also said that with his hectic schedule now he doesn't have any time for it so he hopes to do it in the future sometime. For me I think they'll only be able to get time to seek out proper vocal coaches if they still want to 5 years later when their popularity dies down and their schedule becomes more free. Right now, at the height of their popularity, none of us should be expecting their voices to improve because they simply don't have time for it.

Leon R it’s not just with a mic when you should think small with high notes. You almost always should because, like he said, it’s not always sustainable to start the high notes big.
The guy with the pink hair RM, around this time, still had deviated septum which makes him have a harder time breathing and he's really putting pressure but he's still such a better rapper(that's talent) than a generic kpop rapper and he's pretty commendable considering his state.

1:08 the rapper rm had breathing problems for the past years and he got only recently a surgery because of this. The album "love yourself: tear" is the first one where you can hear him rap without those problems :)

Kai's Bae Woozi's Life Miss Exo-L SevenTeen He had a deviated septum, which made breathing with his nose difficult. It prevented him from breathing as well as he should have during rapping and caused tension. Now, he can really rap to his full potential (which is really saying something considering how incredible he was with his breathing issue). It’s a super common surgery and condition.
You mentioned Suga's lack of support going down in the lower register. I notice it too. I think it's because he's a rapper, not a vocalist, so he does more speaking-type vocals when he does fall into a melody.
I love your observations on Jimin and how he's able to hit those high notes by going smaller rather than blasting them. He's got a great upper range and I love his unique tone.
Jungkook definitely likes his uh vowels! I think because he understands which vowels work best for him to maintain pitch and control, he's actually one of their stronger live vocalists. Especially once you add in their choreography with other songs. He is really, really stable.
As others mentioned, RM (the first rapper) had a deviated septum at this time so he definitely had to push more. In his newer performances you can see how much more effortless it is for him. I've always been impressed by his skill as a rapper but he's only gotten better since his surgery.

I knew Suga was doing that speaking-singing thing, but people were telling me he actually sung, and I thought I was going crazy because I knew for sure it wasn't 100% singing.

Sheep Exo you didn't get it. He wasn't singing at all. So it can't be good or bad singing. He was Donne a talking rap, a poetic type of rapping, that sometimes might sound like singing. He does it in his solo "First Love" as well.

I respect your criticism and I love your channel. It helps me put things in perspective and not get so angry when other fandoms insult BTS singing. I’m an ARMY and they haven’t gotten the best vocal training since it’s mainly a rap and dance group so those two aspects are where they are really good at. But I love them more for their personality and what they’ve gone through even if their voices are beautiful but can sometimes be weak. Great video!

That 'uh' sound has its own vowel in korean actually, "어".

Please react to bts house of cards live. Keep in mind that they are a little breathy because this is at a concert where they do dance to choreography and move around a lot. This is also before Rm's nose surgery for his septum so he does sound a little bit more forced.
Unpopular opinion: i love jimin vocal style the most, why i say this is unpopular opinion cuz, even im not army now but i was bfore and i notice jimin doesnt really get a compliment for his vocal always, its always jungkook, v or sometimes jin, jimin mostly bcs of his dance, yes i know he is main dancer but he also lead vocal, all i see ppl always talk about his bad breathing or his bad high note. PLEASE react to Akdong Musician (AKMU)! They are a brother sister duo and they are extremely good! They sound the same in MVs and live. (Literally you can pick any of their live performances and it will be amazing!)
I love how you were even giving singing/tone/support suggestions to the rappers 😅 (granted, you most likely didn't know they were supposed to be just rappers in all instances). Sometimes the rappers go into more of a "talk-singing" area/sound for their slower songs and this is an example. Rappers can still damage their voices tho if they push/ force too much. Usually ppl disregard the rappers when giving vocal advice, but its still necessary, so your suggestions were nice to hear 😂😄👌👍
Their song "Spring Day" is another instance of the rappers switching to the vocal line and it'd be cool to see/ hear your criticism for that. The live performances even have choreography too.
BTS has gotten waayyy better over the years- if you check out The Truth Untold, Spring Day, or Answer: Love Myself, their vocalists (well all of them) have grown immensely. Also, SHINee (and their late vocalist, Kim Jonghyun) are legendary for their live performances. SHINee has lots of great songs, but Colors of the Season, Fire, and Love are favorites. Jonghyun's high note in Stranger is iconic as well.

I was a tiny bit afraid to watch this because I love BTS so much and any criticizem towards them hurts me (even if it's good and fair criticism) but this was actually really good! maybe because you are so cold and blunt. It really is about analyzing and teaching and not really about judging the way they sing or the music. I called you cold, but that is in no way a diss, just that your videos are not about connecting to the music or performers they are about teaching. I think you are really good teacher and look forward to watching more of your videos.
One of the things I found really interesting was your analysis of the rappers since one of them has also trained as a singer so it was interesting how you could instantly spot how those techniques he learned also influence the way he raps.

I love your reactions so I was really happy when I saw that you reacted to BTS. Just to give you some context on the group:
BTS has 4 singers and 3 rappers. 2 out of the 4 singers had no background in singing whatsoever before joining the band (Jin and Jimin aka the one doing the high notes) so it never fails to amaze me how far they've come, you can see the vocalists improvement over the years and it's amazing. BTS debuted as a Hip Hop idol group and the 3 rappers ( 2 out of the 3 were underground rappers before joining the band) are the main writers and producers of the group so they were not really know for being a vocal group but a rap and hip-hop one.
Their style has changed over the years tho and their vocalists improved a lot, BTS is a group who's known for their synchronized choreography (and having two of the best dancers in the industry, Jimin and J Hope), amazing live performances, singing live (a LOT of idols lip sync at broadcasts) and most importantly writing and producing their own songs something that is not really common in kpop especially years ago when BTS debuted.

As someone who doesn't sing this was fascinating! I am curious to know if some of your criticism/insights into their vowel sounds are related to them being native Korean speakers or not. The language has tons of vowels all over the place. I would be very interested to hear your thoughts on their song Truth Untold. It shows all of their voices really well.
I think the reason RM had such tension was because he had a deviated septum at the time and couldn't breath very well.

BTS didn't know how to sing,but they worked hard and now they have incredible voices.Back then in 2015 Jimin(boy with orange hair) didn't trust himself and his voice and RM(boy with pink hair, rapper) had a breathing problems.Jin thought he can't sing and was worried etc...

@@abdansyakuro6373 The BTS members actually used to have different goals, RM/Suga wanted to become underground Rappers, J-Hope/Jungkook/Jimin were at first only dancers, Taehyung wanted to become a farmer, and Jin wanted to become an actor
A few facts for you to know:
•when he first joined BTS Jin he had to go training since he couldn't sing/dance
•J-hope did not know how to rap, he auditioned as a dancer and was taught by RM and Suga about rapping
•Jungkook did not expect to himself to be the main vocalist, at first he only wanted to dance.
Abdan Syakuro predebut bts, the only member that could sing was jungkook and he was inexperienced, jimin was a dancer and had NEVER sung before, seokjin was recruited off the side of a street and had also never sung before and it took him a long time to learn and finally taehyung auditioned as a rapper.
i feel like jimin (3:10) strains his voice a lot..... sometimes i wish bighit wouldn't force him to make his voice higher than his height (issa joke, pls dun kill me ;-;) but he's the "high note" guy :')
funny thing is jhope (3:55) actually trained to be a vocalist and they put him as a rapper! 😂
Jimin wasn't straining on those notes at all. Those were very healthy high notes. Sam complimented this when he said he made his voice very small because that's what you're supposed to do when you're not straining

I love to watch vocal coaches react to any singers but out of all of them,I specifically like how you commented on them. It just shows how professional and experienced you are.
Every time I watch one of these videos. I learn a little bit more on how to carry my breath away from that broken, too much air sound that I get when I sing, and how to identify when I’m throwing my voice. Too much tension, broken stability, im learning how to identify those things. It’s awesome!

I absolutely love your videos! Binge watching them right now. You go beyond just saying "oh this is bad/good technique" You actually explain what their voices are doing and as someone who knows nothing about singing it helps me to understand more of what is going on.

I would actually love it if you continued making BTS vocal analysis mostly because the 7 guys have such diffrent strengths and methods to their breath and control, I am no professional but I can hear it. Especially considering not all of them came into the group with any song training whatsoever from before. So hearing a professional talk about what they are doing is SO interesting.

this is so great to watch. i grew up singing in choirs and musical theatre and having vocal coaches. when i became a kpop lover, i was always trying to use terms to explain to my friends why certain notes weren’t attainable or why some bands just had way stronger vocals. and i feel like this just puts it exactly into words. thank you!

React to bts the truth untold its their recent bts have unique voices they aren’t technical so much but they are sensational or stylistic so l would love you to continue reacting to the vocal line specially in the intros serendipity. singularity .epiphany and euphoria and also their solo stigma /begin /lie and awake and i would recommend a lot of jungkook covers like only then /if you /lost stars and 2u and we don’t talk any more and i am sorry i forget to tell you that bts is a performing group or entertainer their performance does not only build on vocals but also lyrics play a big role in it so i recommend you to watch it with the eng subtitle and also very strong and powerful choreography and energy but that also does not mean they do not have good vocals okay thank you for your reaction oh and i also recommend songs like let go / don't leave me and crystal snow

i actually agree with you i have just saw a vocal coach opinion in this and he said that it is actually the technical things you use is what correlate to your style so it is fair to say that bts tend to have more of a sultry soulful tambor through their entire range so bts use the technique that gives them this style i really wanted to edit or delete the comment may be

This song was old so people will say they had bad vocal training or not enough. They've have gotten better because they weren't singers before they had joined bts.
People will say if you want to react to amazing singing then watch Exo (yes they're amazing at singing) but I like when people do variety and you didn't say they were bad at singing either.

??? They weren't singers before they had joined Bts? They sure practice while they were trainees. Just like All kpop groups. They practice to be singers before they join their respective groups. That's why there is a lead vocal/main vocalist. Or were they just chilling during their trainee days?

Cheyenne Conley yess..i should have said "they were meant to " ..they had less time to polish their skills..I dont know much about techniques etc but i have heard that their voices are usually airy? I hope they get vocal teachers to improve their techniques
