I remember earlier this year when my anxiety was through the roof and my mom suggested I go out on more walks. So I did, and I spent time at my local park and public house and I would feel significantly better.

Did you know that the world climate goes through cycles naturally? It is caused by solar activity, not by greenhouse gases. There was a global warming in the middle ages and a minor ice age in the 1800s, from which we are recovering. And we are due for a major ice age. If the ice caps melt, the world would actually freeze. CO2 does not affect the climate much. 1816 had a major volcanic eruption which caused a year without summer across the globe, but things went back to normal. When CO2 increases, plants increase. The earth can even digest plastic. What we need to do as a species is to prepare for cataclysmic events, not waste money trying to fight mother nature. We dont cause it and we cant stop it. Human record only shows cataclysm after cataclysm. Global floods, earthquakes, tornadoes, volcanoes, mudfloods. Our ancestors built sturdy pyramids, deep tunnels, and star forts.

    • @jickles5078

@@Ladoga753 If you believe what you said - and I ask genuinely - Why watch the channel? 50% of what it talks about is contradictory to what you believe. And I'm rather surprised that you think a seasoned environmental science student wouldn't already know what is going on with the world's climate. Through expert analysis and simple study of what's going on with the world, precisely what they're learning from, it isn't what you say. We aren't "fighting mother nature," we've hurt her and we're now trying to fix that, because we need her.
Natural disasters have happened, yes, but not as intense or as often as now. This increase is caused by the warming temperatures and removal of natural dampening. The earth has gone through cycles, yes, but spanning hundreds of thousands of years, not one hundred! The last time a global temperature change faster than usual occurred, (The Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum,) it was very abrupt, and found to be quite likely that it was an enormous volcano erupting at the wrong place, releasing methane from the sediment that quickly pumped record amounts of CO2 to the surface, causing the change. The natural cycle was interrupted. It isn't the end for **us** yet, though! That increase was by more than an entire 5°C, meanwhile we're, worst case, expected around a 2°C increase. Ecosystems remain intact, we've been able to revert extinctions and remove invasive species: there is still hope, but we have to fix it. We can't just bunker down and wait.
This channel is for good news, so when someone goes about saying that the end is actually inevitable and we should prepare for an apocalypse, it's... Discouraging.

Wrong. There were huge sailing cargo ships well into the 1920's carrying timber, coal and so on in the US and Europe. Small sailing cargo ships still ply the far-flung parts of the world to the present. i.e. way out in the Pacific. Marine engine tech is really very recent.

But if you meet the people who are working to restore this earth and the lives of the poor, and you aren't optimistic, you haven't got a pulse." -Paul Hawken in his speech You Are Brilliant, And the Earth is Hiring

I noticed a few people have started this good news idea over over the last few years. I really appreciated Russel Howard back then and then that guy from the office did it in the pandemic, and many others. But it always stops. it's so key to focus on the positives.
Even though it doesn't initially seem profitable. So it does not get invested in. But the cost of us being isolated, hopeless and polarised is a mass deficit really. On all fronts.
As a species we pay a little more attention to scary stuff, only because of an innate survival instinct. A tendency evolutionarily originating from when scary stuff could mean death.
But for me and other privileged few from the global North. Scary stuff doesn't mean death. But it should actually be the exact opposite. If we pay attention to the positive stuff. then we find proactive solutions and hope.

There is a lot of depression nowadays because these people aren’t going outside or appreciating nature. It’s even better when you do it with friends. Connection with nature and socializing are very important parts of a human.

Nature does help a lot mental health, but you need to have access to in constantly. If you are inside 24/7, you don't benefit from a sidewalk ditch once a week during grocery shopping. This is why we need to consider how we build our cities and how we shouldn't rip out all the forest in it.
