Even nine years later this box set is one of my favorites in my collection. Up until this set came out I don't think I'd even heard any of the mono Beatles recordings since all that was available to me were the stereo mixes. Now I prefer these CDs to stereo. Luckily I was able to also get a vinyl set before prices went crazy. Great job on the video. Makes me want to get out my set just to look at it all up close again:)
@@bombardier2011 I would have liked the 2014 Mono box set for the analogue transfer and reproductions of the original LPs. I only have a few of the albums on vinyl, so that would have been a nice set to have most of the albums.
Ya, especially the middle years like Rubber Soul and Revolver... the stereo mixes are really ridiculous. No fault to George Martin or Norman Smith (Martin was generally not even there for those mixes)... Stereo was still so novel, most engineers thought the whole point was to put vocals on one side, guitars on the other, etc etc. The only redeeming part to those mixes, is they're so heavily panned left and right, that it's fun to flip to just the left channel and hear what's up, and then flip to the right channel. I've listened to whole albums that way, and then relistened all the way through again on just the other channel. It's pretty fun.
I got it a year later. In 2010, to be exact. I had enough money to get this box set cause it looked cool. The cd's looked just looked like the albums. The mono sound sounded amazing. I also bought it because it had the original 1965 stereo mixes and I wanted to listen to it.
Originally I only bought the stereo box set on 9.9.09, which was fine until I got to AHDN. The stereo album sounded too sparse, the double tracked opening John vocal on If I Fell jarred after hearing the 1987 mono CD for so long. In short, didn't like it. So for that one album I went to HMV before work the next morning an dropped £199 on the mono box. The entire set was a revelation - everything I'd heard about mono Pepper was true, the original 60s mix of Rubber Soul so much better than the late 80s remix. It has since become my go to versions of any given Beatles album, over and above the vintage stereo mixes, the recent remixes and the US Albums box (despite owning all of these). The attention to detail in the set - the inner sleeves, the flip-back mini vinyl sleeve replicas -are all something to really treasure. Still the best music purchase I've ever made and the music contained should be on the National Curriculum in schools.
I was the opposite in the respect that I decided to go with IN MONO first, then did not get the Stereo CD Box until about 5 years later. IN MONO is still one of my all time favorite box sets. I also really enjoy the US Albums box. Fantastic stuff!
`...the original 60s mix of Rubber Soul so much better than the late 80s remix...`. I also like it very much. It has a heavier sound and it is immediately clear that you are dealing with a rock album. And the late 80s remix is like a failed attempt to turn a rock album into a pop album.
Thank you for doing this, I was at Half Priced Book Store, last Sunday and based off of your descriptions and pictures, I bought a Fake, which is going back right away. A lot of people that talk about Fake Mono Box Set don't do what you did and show enough pictures to be conclusive. You were not trying to talk about anything fake, but you left the viewer beyond any shadow of a doubt about what was real and what is fake and for that I thank you. You have the best How to spot a Fake Beatles Mono Boxset video on You Tube. I will just buy the box set off of Music Direct and be done with it.
There are so many of those fake sets, both mono and stereo. I hate 'em, so I am very happy to hear this video helped you avoid being saddled with a garbage box set.
I was late to the party, having finally just found a genuine box on eBay. I had to go through two fakes (one was purchased on Amazon), before purchasing the real deal from a collector in Japan. I am ecstatic at the quality in both sound and presentation of this boxset, and it has made me an even bigger fan of the original mixes, as done by Sir George Martin, which in my humble opinion, are the way these albums are meant to be heard.
The mono vinyl box and cd box are my treasures, my museum pieces. Man these albums are from the greatest band that ever existed. They are identical to how they were originally release and how the Beatles intended the albums to be heard.Do you have the vinyl box set?
Magical Mystery Mike last Christmas they had it for sale on cyber Monday and I got it!thank god before it was OOP. They are selling them for crazy prices now!
Did you spot an issue at 9:59 ? The photograph of Past Masters shows a counterfeit copy I had laying around. It was easily accessible at the moment and I snapped a quick pic instead of retrieving the official copy within my Original Studio Recordings Box. I forgot there’s an error on the Disc 2 listing for track 5. Terrible! If you missed it, go back and see for yourself. 🤦♂️
In fact, Mike. This detail would go unnoticed by most people. But not for a collector. Unfortunately there is a "ton" of poor quality copies of Beatles albums (and other bands as well). Mainly of Chinese origin.
Cláudio Sales - DJ Cal yes, this is true. I got a fake Stereo Box at one point. I keep it hanging around, but it’s nowhere near how great the original is.
I see it, "5 Lady" "5 Lady Madonna". I had bought the stereo boxset and got a counterfeit copy, since I had see a lot of videos identifying this, I filed a complaint and returned it to the seller, but it got returned to me cause the address was no good. Hmm? But I did find a legit copy.
Now I know which box set to get for ma b-day. Plus, it’ll be interesting to hear these in mono, instead of folding the stereo tracks in mono in Audacity
Oh, no! Fold downs won't due! Many of the Mono tracks are different mixes. This set is wonderful; you will NOT be disappointed! Just be careful of counterfeits; they're all over and they suck compared to the real deal!
Where did you buy this box of yours? I would like to buy it but, despite searching on several websites, I still cannot find an authentic copy since there are plenty of fake ones. Moreover, the prices are too high. Could you tell me where an authentic box can be bought without spending too much?
I got this box as a gift back in 2009. If you're going to buy it, please use a reputable retail source. It is an expensive box set, but occasionally can be found at a discount. I'm not a retailer, so it's difficult for me to guide you with resources more than are available to you.
Have to be careful with them. I just bought 100 resealable outer sleeves. I'm going to put my stereo cd box set in them, and also got inner sleeves as well. Don't know why they didn't package the stereo set the same as the mono set.
Looking forward to it as well! I watched the Paul McCartney live stream on Friday. He performed 5 songs from the white album! I think The Beatles camp is gearing up for the 50th.
Cláudio Sales - DJ Cal pretty safe bet that it’s due to McCartney’s new album, in addition to the reissue of Lennon’s Imagine album, but you’d think The BEATLES would be released in time for the holidays.
Me too I guess there waiting for October maybe for any trailers of the white album 50th. What I was thinking it would be nice if the boxes were numbered with the countries initials in front for example U.S 00001, U.K 00001. 🤩

Mark P. I waited too long on the vinyl set, and I regret it. Thanks for watching . Keep taking your In Mono Box out as often as possible. Enjoy!

Which one (2009 or 2014) sounds best for your taste?

All great reasons to own this box. In Mono is one of the finest, if not the finest releases The Beatles have offered!
This was a Godsend; I now prefer to listen to The Beatles in mono.
Evan Lanctot it is an excellent set, and so worthwhile a listen.

Absolutely. Listening to The Beatles is especially uplifting at times like these. It's great break from the news of the day!

thanks for this video, I would like to ask what is the original price of this Beatles Mono 13-CD Box Set, thanks
I think it retailed for about $250 back in 2009.
My set was pressed in Japan, but I believe all the sets were.
Yes, I believe there were.
I need to do a reflection on the remasters.
Brian Husar just viewed and liked your vid. 👍

Its difficult to listen to Bach and to the talking at the same time. Bach is not lounge music for a bar or hotel lobby
A fair and honest sentiment.
Bach is almost as good as Lennon-McCartney but get the Pinnock recording.
