Stereolab were one of the first groups I saw at a very young age, I still recall the show, as I my mind was blown, everyone seems to overlook Andy Ramsey's killer motorik drumming, he was a very important part of the Stereolab sound in my opinion.
I only got into Stereolab about 3 years ago, my loss for not having seen them in their early years, but as a big Fall, Velvets and Wire fan, l have to say this is ACE! I’m 60 now and pretty disillusioned with much I’ve heard recently and then I discovered this......👌
Well I'm 69 and just getting into them now (2024) Never too late. I still find good new music today. Have to look harder but musical art is being made all the time.
Stereolab are one of the finest (and criminally overlooked) bands of all time. Loved them from day one... and still do. Along with Broadcast and The Fall, they’re timelessly evocative, creative and compelling.
I totally agree. They are maybe my favourite band of all times. Stereolab were firstly GREAT music listeners, so their music has no limits... You may find krautrock, bossa nova, jazz, easy listening, songwriting... Of couse keeping their own identity. Also, let's not forget the amazing lyrics.
Just discovered this. What a great video a " minimalist" Stereolab but what great songs . Saw them in SF on the last tour Mary played. Such a brilliant show . I miss Mary
I saw them in 1999 in Germany @ the Southside Festival. There was bad weather since many days. Stereolab played on a side stage covered with a big tent. As it started hard raining again, many people from the main stage moved to side stage and filled the tent. Minutes before there were not many people as the started to play, what a shame. They played amazing. And loud, so pure. I stood in the first row, no barriers. Only Stereolab in front of me. what a gift ! I can remember they gave admission with 'lo fi' in a approx. 30 minutes version. It blew my head away. mixed with countless Hashpipes I couldn't grasp to have that all in the first row. One of the most intensive moments in my life.
I loved this band all my adult life and when I finally saw them live in Manchester I had a stroke at the gig. I’m still in recovery but getting back to normal bit by bit. X
@@naughtyplanet yeah, I had the door staff take me out and my partner zoomed me back home and waiting for an ambulance I fell downstairs and broke my collarbone. My coordination is shot but as an artist, I had to work hard to handle my scalpel. I’ve recently seen a live version of Lo Boob and it scared the bejaisus out of me as that track was when the band appeared to be iridescent and floated around me.
I went to SJSU, and seeing a SJSU t-shirt in a Stereolab vid is the last thing I ever expected to see. Sometimes the world can feel frighteningly (and beautifully) connected...
That was the period with Duncan Brown on bass and Katherine Gifford on keys. Great line-up, though the best line-up for me was with Richard Harrison on bass and Morgane Lhote on keys (on Emperor Tomato Ketchup, Florescences EP and Dots and Loops) along with core members Tim Gane, Laetitia Sadier, Mary Hansen and Andy Ramsey.
Laeticia Sadier and Mary Hanson... That is one of rock history's golden voice match ups.
*amen!!!*
RIP, Mary.

they look like so very young! Stereolab , the sound of the nineties

Stereolab and the Fall , that is a dream lineup in a small intimate club.

Evocative rock² is underrated aswell

I love how this starts like they're just warming up and then all of a sudden it's a song.

Oh gosh I’m sorry. I hope that you’ve improved even more by now ❤
missing Mary...
Laeticia is so beautiful here. I'm in love
Love it. I saw them first Dec 1993, they blew me away. Laetitia played loads of weird synth noises between tracks...
Fine group. Their sound is so simple and pure. The keyboard sounds almost Farfisa. Three ladies in Stereolab then. Wow, great stuff.
Mark Faris I love the Farfisa and Vox organs.
I wished I owned them.
on this video they use a lovely white yamaha ps-20
@@rodrigopinheiro6066 Thank you for the update. Simply an amazing sound!!
RIP Mary Hansen
What a great time in music!
Terrific sounds, dance moves that nerdy and cool all at once. Rest in Power Mary Hanson!
me watching this for the 1000th time: yup thats definitely John Cage Bubblegum live
Truly one of the greatest ever combinations of simple lyrics and riff.
All I can say is I wish I was in that record store and that point in time.
I went to SJSU, and seeing a SJSU t-shirt in a Stereolab vid is the last thing I ever expected to see.

we are all one
The coolest.
Laetitia and Mary

this is such good quality for early 90s!
Saw them and Unrest on this tour. Too much of a good thing.
I saw them that same night at the Berkeley Square! I still have the t-shirts that I bought from both bands.
Berkeley 10/23/1993, Modern Language Record Store.

Poor Mary) RIP
I'm pretending that my face is Laetitia's mic
LOOOL
@fruitbatrepublic (Geek pedant alert) it's actually a Spitfire (skateboard) wheels shirt with a sub pop sticker on the back.
Wonder why Catherine Gifford left?
I notice the singer often rolls her eyes when she sings.
Enthralled in essence
спасибо за раритет!
Les Originaux CerebroPsychoFunkadeliques
Laetitia is the loveliest woman in the world!
Weltkulturerbe!
That 2 piece drum kit looks familiar... hmmmmmm
