    oh my heavens I swear this contributor is a life saver I would reccomend this to anybody who takes pure mathematics as a subject

    You should always have some form of scale parallel to the box plot, whether it be vertical or horizontal.

    lol 11 years ago and this is still helping us. Our teacher randomly came up with the assumption that we should be doing statistics because "maths was just simply too easy". So now 1 month before my exam for stats i have to go through the whole thing, Which im almost completed with it. Anyways this was a banger :P

    Thanks, box and whisker plots just never went through my head. This should definitely help me with my stats test tomorrow.

    i think there are some mistakes...if i'm not mistaken Q1 -1.5(IQR) =1.5
    and Q3+1.5(IQR)=29.5

    So that's how you find outliers, I knew it couldn't just be guessing which one looks a bit off, phew! You saved my grade, my teacher just wouldn't tell me of any formula and said use logic for it all...

    Hi, thanks for the uploads! can you confirm whether you made an error when calculating the outliers upper and lower, as i made it out to be lower outlier = Q1 (12) - 1.5 (19-12= 7) so = 1.5 .... upper quartile = Q3 (19) + 1.5 (19-12=7) so = 29.5
    Have i done something wrong? please advise :)

    Hi,what if the boxes are symmetrical but the whiskers tend to be longer on the right side? Do I say it's positively skewed or symmetrical? Actually, when determining skewness, should we look at the box more or the whiskers? Thanks so much!

    Question, what does the left and right skews tell us about data ? Same for if the data is symmetrical ?
    Also what if the median line is pushed to the right, and the right whisker is also longer ?
    What if median is pushed right or left but the whiskers are equal in length ?
    What kind of skews would these be at the point ?

    with the correct values for the upper and lower outliers; (29.5 and 1.5) what would the new box and whisker diagram showing the outliers look like?
    Thank you

    Are the outliers really 4 and 26.5 because every time I enter it in my calculator I get 1.5 and 19.5. If that is wrong please someone take the time to explain that to me. Thank you!

    ExamSolutions I love your videos, they have helped me so much.
    However, I'd like to point out the Upper inner fence, or Second Outlier if you will is also inaccurate. Even if you plugged it in the calculator straight, it's 29.5 not 26.5. I don't think it affected the results, but yeah.

    • @ExamSolutions_Maths

    so the EXTREME VALUE is the number up/down from the maximum and minimum numbers?

    • @ExamSolutions_Maths
      @ExamSolutions_Maths  10 лет назад

      Yes, the outliers are the extreme values if you like which are values below and above the calculated min and max values.

  • @olgalochi6583

    WHY IS 30 AN OUTLIER

  • @SirDeatheat
    @SirDeatheat 12 лет назад

    The median is calculated by find the middle value. In this case there are two values in the middle, 15 and 17. The median = (15 + 17) / 2 = 16. not 15...
