I mostly disagree with you about the Colosseum (which is not to say I am right and you are wrong). We went in July of 2022 (also very hot) and it took less than 15 minutes to get through the line and security (our tickets were shortly after it opened). One thing I suggest is a tour - it can be a guided tour or an audio tour from the venue but we normally use the ones from Rick Steves as they are free. Tours can provide a lot of context for what you are seeing and add to the experience. I would add that I think the standard ticket is fine and there is no need to upgrade to the arena floor or underground versions. It is also nice to visit (the outside) at night when it is all lit up.

Everyone has their own opinion! I just found it lackluster on the inside!
