One thing that i think is interesting is that, even though this dude's an abnormality, he's not a bad leader by any means. He buffs the pettaculum since they're his people but also gives you a fair fighting chance, and, when shit goes down, bro decides to fight you by himself.
I think he's representative of the weight and restraint (haha) leaders often have to put on themselves in order to properly work with their peers. Which makes sense given the intro cutscene starts out with Dante setting aside their free time to help the sinners with their troubles.

Judging by the corroded lines, it could also be representative of feeling metaphorically restrained.

Think of what Heathcliff said after coming back from distortion. He said that what he did while Distorting didnt help him feel better, but that it was better than facing the reality of the situation. Same goes with Erlking. To keep going, he focused on his goal of taking revenge on everyone that caused him suffering, including Heathcliff himself.
They would rather stay misserable and remain bound in their ways than trying to free themeselves from the pain, because they dont think that effort would bring them anything but even more pain.

The king in binds come from the myth of king Damocles, Damocles wanted to feel what it felt like to be a king so Dionysus the second gave Damocles the throne but with a giant sword on top of it hanging beneath Damocles head Dionysus later told Damocles that that was the restriction of being king to have such leadership over your kingdom meant that you were pressured with such responsibility I think that’s why king of binds brings that sword out that is the sword hanging from him and the sword he uses to fight idk idk idk idk

The first WAW to actually feel like a WAW level abnormality in terms of combat strength, and this song is truly fit for a king who finally takes a stand after his army has already been defeated for the sake of a dramatic ending.
I love this abnormality.

Personally I think Sign of Roses fits the same too. Absolute blender that you have to suppress immediately. King however is feels that way too. He'd probably be phase 3 NT size if in Lobotomy, and do more room wide attacks over single hits in front of him.

That's the most likely thing to be the big seasonal ID for Heathcliff, just like Spicebush Yi Sang, Pequod Captain Ishmael, and N Corp Sinclair. And iirc you can see his shadow over Ryoshu in her UT3 art, though I might be wrong on that

I like how it starts with this somber piano solo ,which is accompanied by this tense strings at the background, finally it transitions to a leitmotif of the Erlking.
Yeah, I had sunshower (yi sang) corrode because he got hit by himself but thankfully no one died somehow. Earlier in the fight some guys also got hit by corroded telepole from the enemy. I have no idea how no one died.

My Sunshower Yi Sang corroded, but Mothmael killed him before he killed everyone else хD

What I find so much more damning about the story of King in Binds is that ticking that shows up occasionally in between the organ blasts.
It really hammers home to me that… whatever this abnormality is, it is… as simply as I can put it, a reflection of Dante.
ok so i had probably the most miserable king in binds fight in the history of limbus
i spent all of my sanity nuking his minions in the first wave, sinners kept corroding until there was eventually no one left and he finally got staggered, only the damage was NOT ENOUGH and then, rodya and heath with the same speed as the king delivered the final strike
*one more attack from him and i could've been dead.*

Just imagine when you think you defeated him his binds break and fall off, revealing his true form and summoning a sword ready to strike.
He then is able to fight for another 2 or 3 turns as a last stand, no restraints, no holding back, no longer bound. He is "dying", I guess those really were bandages, or were they chains? Maybe both? but one thing is sure, he will take you out with him.
You have to survive an onslaught of attacks with high aoe and high damage. His title changes from "The King in binds" to "The King" and goes from Waw level threat to Aleph for the duration of this last struggle.
Bravo brother. You can cook.
You know, The name "The King Unbinding" would be more fitting name
