Wow. More comments. Hehe. It been 5years ago that we performed this dance. To Sir and Maam, i'm a member of this Dance Troupe it a community base dancers. Under two Admins - Mr. Bryan Ellorimo - Researcher, Coordinator and Mr. Alexis Javier - Director, Choreographer. The group has 20 official dancers and 25 on calls dancers. The dance presentation. We performed the Maguindanaon dance, and we all know that this dance Maranao moro are originated this. Which represent the forbbiden love of Princess Lawaren, Prince Bantugan and Prince Madali. Yes it true some tribe has also a version of this dance the Maguindanao and the Kalagan or Kagan. As we goes by genation to genation and as Artist we must undergo a moderated dance to fit the tribe we represent. Like for example Kappa Malong Malong of Maranao, to slow and very dramatic. However the Maguindanao upbeat but the gracefulness of the dance is there. Ok. Lets go back to the dance. The Singkil dance is given and originate in Maranao, but there is a story why the Singkik has made. Also the Maguindanao has a version a Singkil, to identify both tribes. The Maguindanao Singkil is fast, nilagyan nila nang ibang favor or spicies the Singkil to identify the dance. Yon original talaga, and also let me correct we are not moro dancers (but we have 5members are moros.) So we are not original, we are artist and we can innovate a dance which appropriete to the tribe we represent. And as you noticed the music is very intense and fast and upbeat it a Maguindanao. For some people askinh where we did get the music we have friends a moro people like Maguindanao; Gensan, Maguindanao. For Maranao Lanao del Norte and also Tausug In Jolo Sulu. Kalagan; Tigatto 8, Waan and Mandug (Davao City). We learned that from them. Oh wait, the player of kulintang is Mr. Bryan Ellorimo our Research and Coordinator in the group. Thank you guys and hope are enlighten in my short lesson. Hehehe. Wait wait to Mr. Sam Garte thank you. Bye.

I come from New York City where I have seen some of the best folkloric dance companies of the world. Your Isla Dance Company is one of the BEST I've seen. The choreography, the synchronization, the technique of each individual dancer, the music and the costumes makes of this dance & dance company a superb and unforgettable experience. Wishing you great INTERNATIONAL success.

Authentic or not authentic, traditional or not traditional, it was a wonderful Maguindanaoan dance tapestry. You had everything in there: Singkil, Kapamalong-malong, kuntao, kinakulangan and lots of artistry.
You guys can argue it out over the semantics of cultural correctness. Culture is fluid and dynamic, it grows, it evolves, it reflects and it broadens.

JUST SO YOU KNOW: The longest epic in the world is the Darangen Epic of the Meranaws in Lanao province. It is recorded in the Guiness World of Book Records.
    DARANGEN EPIC OF THE MARANAO
the Maranao epic chant, the Darangen, was proclaimed as one of the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by the UNESCO on November 25, 2005. One of the lengthiest of the Philippine epics, the already recorded Darangen is composed of about 17 cycles composed in iambic tetrameter. Each cycle is independent of the others, if taken individually, but a study of the adventures and lives of the characters in the songs show that the cycles are connected to one another in a logical progression. The Darangen is a pre-islamic form of primarily oral literature, presently existing in an islamic context. Implications contained in the epic point to influences reaching as far west as india. The epic is the culmination of all these influences and the core culture of the Maranao. The traditional Maranao belief and value systems are founded on the truisms of the Darangen. The mythologies contained therein constitute the foundation of indigenous beliefs and value system. It is a body of traditions and functions as a societal lynchpin since it is a record of the way of the ancestors. The Darangen remains to be an important source of information regarding the Maranao value system, social etiquette, mythology and marriage customs and traditions.

The dance being performed was portraits in Silong sa Ganding originated in Maguindanaon tribe, Maguindanaon has Singkil dance in fast rendition while Maranao performed very slow...Therefore I conclude that the dance is Maguindanaon.

History of Singkil is from the Prince Bantogen and Princess Lawanen of Lanao which taken from the Darangen, "Mamayog Akun" Folk Song and "Oh Dalinan ko" its all Maranao Epic. so if you have Maguindanaon Singkil maybe its your creation version.

Jenno Contreras You probably thought that because the _malong_ (the patterned cloth wrapped around their bodies) resembles the _chima_ skirt in the Korean _hanbok_. They are however, NOT the same. The _malong_ is not a skirt. It's a loose tube of cloth similar to the Indian _sari_ and the Malay _sarong_. It's not belted. And it's used for a variety of other purposes, aside from clothing. It can also function as a blanket, swaddling clothes for babies, a bedsheet, a hat, a cloak, or as a veil. Notice that the men are also wearing _malong_.

First of all!! I would like to acknowledge whoever is/are the choreographer/s in this piece. This is one hell of a master piece! they deserve a recognition! Second, I would like to commend the dancers that are so in character who successfully interpreted the story through the dance was just epic! This is one of a kind. the choreography btw is so modern yet majestic and spontaneous till the very end...I've never been so impressed 😍😍😍
AND PS: that slowmo 6:03 was just breathtaking 🤯❤️

You guys are sooo good!! kudos to your choreographer!! Graceful girls and mighty boys, it's brilliant, energetic and vibrant!! I'm so proud of how you represent our region, our island and heritage in the arts.
It's a little fast-forwardy in the singkil bit which made it lose its dramatic sense in the princess fan dance. It could have been the part where the tempo is dropped suddenly to then be able to bring it back up in a climaxing end?? (just an opinion)...... but this overall performance, plot and ensemble is AMAZING!!! Great Job!! I'm officially addicted to this video now!

Maguindaon singkil that falls out to Maguindanaon wedding, I didn't see the "betel" part guess because they're running outa time but still GOOD JOB I like the way it was choreographed? it's theatrical scenes so intense that is why it won. Over satisfactory! I mean the research is correct, it doesn't have any false representation. More like an entertainment not just a historical dance show.

Percussion. Indigenous or native dances in the Philippines remained as they were before the colonizers came by using drums and gongs. Before conversion to Islam, the Maranaws were already dancing the Singkil based on the epic story of Prince Bantugan and Princess Ganding who had to withstand a lot of diversities as symbolized by the criscrossed bamboos, before they lived together.

Correct me if im wrong, nagtatanong lang. Is there "theaterization" involve in some of the movements? Is it acceptable to apply theatrical touches of the dance para sumunod sa uso or to modernize the movements in order to appeal to young audiences? Is is frowned upon? Here in the states there's the debate between the "authentic" and the " theaterization" of our folk dances. Bayanihan(apply's the theatrical touches) vs. Ramon Obusan(authentic). Marami kaseng nagmamarunong dito na mga iskolar kuno.

And what is "authentic" anyway? culture is expressed in different ways by different people. Its not some museum or antique-house, culture is an expression of living people who are part of the modern world.

Before the advent of written language, the natives of this country expressed their culture through dances based on local legends and stories. Singkil is one. In our high school, we studied Singkil and the story behind it in order that every movement of the different parts of the body of the dancers would truly express the story behind the dance!
By the way, the Tinikling dance from the Visayas is totally different. The dance steps in Tinikling is in threes while that of Singkil is four.

Korean elements? most stupid comment ever. We are all in Asia, and we all have similarities. WHat if I tell you that Korean dances also have Chinese elements since they were a part of China a long time ago? What you aren't really sure is, if you know anything about our culture at all..Learn our culture before appreciating others..nasosobrahan ka sa kapapanood mo sa mga Krung-krung,,nakakalimutan mo ang sarili mong pinagmulan..

This is a very good performance. But one thing I have noticed is that there are several "Korean" elements thats been used all over it. And I am not a 100 % sure that this performance is authentic. Just my two cents. But regardless, I still think that this is a very good showcase of talent.

galasgaw ug kiat tan-awon! nindot unta kung hinay (graceful) ang mga dancers. mas naay dramarturgy ug emphasized ang projections.

if this is a maranao tribe, hinay gyud ang movements, but this is a maguindanawon tribe. there are differences between the movements of maranao and maguindanawon. mas strong ang movements sa mga magui.

@jerome agbulos. yes! those people who performed that piece is a mixed bisaya and kalagan, but they delivered the core of the story clearly and bringing the culture of maguindanawon brilliantly through their dance. even they are not maguindanawon people but i salute them for a wonderful performance.
naa kaha kay ika atbang aning grupoha para mapildi ni nga pyesa? sa karon palang daan duda nako. wahahaha goodluck saimo!

Come on, Singkil dance is based on a Maranaw epic. You mean to say that the other tribes have the same epic as the Maranaws?
