I’ve been researching the Croatian lyrics of this song. What a moment it describes! The singer could be a man or a woman, but clearly the struggle is one faced by women far more than men. Moments of abject horror are eclipsed by rhythms and melodies that give the entire song hope, and power. Stunning.

@@LoneVocalist In my opinion Autrefois and Dansez-Vous sound similar to U Plavu Zoru. However, I must admit they are not on the same level as U Plavu Zoru. It is Serbian. Croats use shtokavian dialect (for their literal language) which is one of Serbian dialects.
They are trying (and failing) to sing in serbian/croatian/bosnian. Awful.

You are set on a wrong foot if you think the only cultural thing in the Balkans was "Islamic"and that only Gypsy made music. Each country had its own traditional music. There were some influences because of the Ottoman rule, some of Byzantine origin, some Persian, some Arabic-yes! But they were only a strain. As regarding Gypsies, they were mainly performers- they played a la mode the Ottoman music and less local traditional music. They made a synthesis out of all styles of music, but their particular voice was only one amongst one. I'd go to the length of saying there is no such a thing as Gypsy music.
