This looks like Downtown NYC back in the 70's. New York cleaned up and so can Jozi. When people work together, that is.

Yapah Haban .. well Yapah with your logic all Afro American need to be deported in all shitty countries in Africa from where their ancestors are..all black French should be expelled from the country also, for example. fuck up that logic ..my country is where l was born and all my ancestors are .. l was fight to stay in SA and people like you destroying it and my country is shit hole what is a reason why l must live normal life in some foreign country far from mine . The truth is that South Africa loses its power and becomes a bad place. It would be almost impossible to live here in future. If you live in SA you'll know what I'm talking about.

Inner city zones in SA tend to be quite safe during business hours, and of course the less you look like you have some-thing to take, the safer you are and the more relaxed you will feel, too. It's always wiser to know where you are in relation to well-known trouble spots.

The one thing I noticed about Joburg is where are the buses. Nothing but vans. In most US cities even with god awful transit there are buses everywhere. In Manhattan they clog the streets.

I've been to this country for six times, best in the world!
Everyone is like don't go there because of huge criminalism.
But I've never had a scary moment for once in all the time I spend there.
Just act normal. When u do, they'll do too.
Also I would like to say that those black people are really nice. I like to have fun while singing with them or making jokes, they seem very happy.

  • @DreaLS

Yeah, me too. Like someone said in the comments, it's like NYC circa the 70's. I mean, I still have a craving to go to SA, I just don't think it will be Johannesburg. I'm sure there are very nice parts, but something about it looks a wee bit unsavory, if you know what I mean (no offense to anyone who lives there).

I lived there for six months in 1989, it was good and reasonably safe then though I do recall carrying a 35mm camera and received lots of attention and was follow by a guy who was obviously intending robbing me, it was daytime in the main street and this was in Berea, luckily I was only walking a hundred yards or so, I was so glad to get to my destination safely! I wouldn't even visit now, too scary and basically not white friendly at all, I still have family out there but it is not for me thanks.

What ever happened to the rainbow generation that was suppose to transform South Africa into a free and open society for all? This video is 8 years old and I didn't see a single white or asian person on the street but a video taken in the 1970's show a steady flow of black, white and asian peoples even though apartheid was in force. People should have turned to Christ who alone can bring peace and better life instead of some pop stars and social activist who sing and talk about injustice while propelling a culture into drugs, illicit sex and violence including here in America.

Beautiful country. However, one thing South Africa does need to work on is its public transport. It's a lot like the US in the sense that its kind of hard to get around unless you have your own vehicle.
However, if that can be fixed, this country is definitely a great tourist destination!

I loved Johannesburg, you just can't get a complete picture of SA if you don't go there. It has great parts and several attractions, and the CBD is very interesting and full of life during the day so I'd recommend to venture there, provided some basic and logical precautions are taken. I had no trouble whatsoever, and wandered around the center, Newtown and Braamfontein for hours. And believe me, a skinny white guy with a map and tripping all the time is not a particularly difficult target.

When you leave you can see the degradation. Bravo ANC, you have taken a once flourishing 1st world country and broke it down to a 3rd world slum.

Thats what Mandela fight for...

On behalf of all Americans I apologize for any stupid comments they may make now and in the future. We Americans are taught in our public schools that we are supreme and the rest of the world hardly matters. This obviously couldn't be farther from the truth, and unfortunately racism is something we have struggled with forever. Africa in it's whole is beautiful, and the people are really warm and inviting; I wish I could say the same about here in the United States. Peace to you all!
